Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Jeannette and Christine, there must be something in the air today. I slept until 10 this morning, couldn't believe that my dog let me sleep in that late. She usually wakes me up to go out, often before I'm ready to get up. I guess she was tired from the weekend, too. LOL!

message 1252: by [deleted user] (new)

Must be the fresh air..... :)

How terrible Barb! I hope your daughter makes a complete recovery from whatever it was. :-)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments How awful, Barb! Glad your daughter is recovering.

message 1255: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, Barb, that was crappy! I'm glad to hear she is feeling better. Antibiotics always made my daughter sick to her stomach. I hate the ER, too! :(

Ugh! An ER visit is always a nightmare, but throw in a holiday and visiting relatives. Sorry to hear this, Barb!

Kim (kymi) | 14 comments We just finished spring break here. Now, spring break usually brings to mind warm weather, tulips emerging, etc. Not here in Rexburg, ID. Try a snowing blizzard, 4 inches of snow, and house-bound grouchy kids. Thank goodness for a good book to read and a playroom to send the kids to. I'm glad the kids will be back in school tomorrow.

Paula | 184 comments Hi All- I'm roughly 500 messages behind for this thread, but just wanted to stop by and say hi. :)

For the record, I eat meat... don't hate me for it! Although less and less cow, as I've discovered my body is not a fan. Even getting the fiance to substitute ground turkey in place of meat is a big accomplishment!

Was a goooorgeoouus day today! And it's ending with a spring thunderstorm that might just be one of my favorite sounds in the world.

And don't worry, sports fans! Today was opening day of baseball!!! Twoot! (Or roughly 5 months to NFL pre-season, depending on how you want to look at it :)

Hope everyone is doing well (inc. Barb's daughter)!

message 1259: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Paula, When you said behind 500 messages I checked to see how many messages are in the thread. 1297 now. Wow!

message 1260: by [deleted user] (new)

Morning everyone!! I'm pretty behind too! Hope everyone has recovered from the festivities (Barb, how's your daughter doing? Allergy to anti-b?). Naturally the sun is out and the skies are blue today... Sunday was rainy, Monday (a holiday for us) high winds and rain... *sigh*

Paula wrote: "Hi All- I'm roughly 500 messages behind for this thread, but just wanted to stop by and say hi. :)"

I was thinking about you this weekend and wondering where you went. Good to see you!

message 1262: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Paula! We got that thunderstorm here in Iowa last night. They seem to start earlier than I remember. Everything is wet and green now, even my pathetic looking lawn! Hope everyone is healthy today! :)

message 1263: by [deleted user] (new)

Weird thunderstorm event here....my next door neighbor's trampoline blew away and ended up in the pond about 7 houses down. This thing has to be a ton, it's huge. Oddly, his lawn furniture (cheap and light weight stuff) is perfectly in place.

message 1264: by [deleted user] (new)

It's surface area that does it. Trampolines are always blowing away. A friend had to repair a neighbor's garage door due to her loose trampoline.

Jeannette wrote: "Hi Paula! We got that thunderstorm here in Iowa last night. They seem to start earlier than I remember. Everything is wet and green now, even my pathetic looking lawn..."

Jeannette, I planted a bunch of stuff yesterday because I knew we would be getting rain. I sure didn't expect THIS much though, so hopefully everything survives.

message 1266: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually wait until May to plant tender stuff because of the wind, the rain, and potential late frost. I planted peppers too early once and all their leaves got stripped off by the wind. :(

What did you plant, Christine?

Jeannette wrote: "I usually wait until May to plant tender stuff because of the wind, the rain, and potential late frost. I planted peppers too early once and all their leaves got stripped off by the wind..."

I planted a few small shrubs and some day lily plants. I figure that both are sturdy...hope so anyway. I avoided the fragile looking flowers at the nursery. I don't have much of a green thumb, but I am trying to learn.

Does everyone else get this Pearl of China promo that I do on goodreads? I kinda' want it now.

message 1270: by [deleted user] (new)

Shrubs and stuff are fine, just wait on the annuals/vegetables til your last frost date.

I can see the Pearl of China ad, too. I think they place the ads based on the posts of the group. I get different ads on the other groups.

I'm glad she's feeling better. That must have been pretty awful. Well that's one to list on the medical forms. My daughter always got stomach aches from antibiotics, but I think that is fairly common, because they always give you such high doses.

Paula, we have missed you! I'm glad you checked in!

I plan on doing some container gardening on the balcony this spring/summer. Can anyone recommend good veggies/herbs/plants for that will grow in pots?
I'm not a good gardener either and wish I had a green thumb like my grandma but it doesn't seem to have passed on to me.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments 90 yesterday - probably again today. 66 on Friday, which is about what we should be. Been very warm!

message 1275: by [deleted user] (new)

I just watched a bunch of guys fish a trampoline out of a pond in the pouring rain. Interesting coffee break for me. :)

message 1276: by [deleted user] (new)

We had a heavy storm, and it must have blown in there (and really far away from their yard). The neighbor first thought someone had stolen it, which seemed unlikely, and he called the police. Then he saw it peaking out of the middle of the pond. I should have video taped the trampoline rescue, it was somewhat comical.

Your neighbour should be glad that the trampoline did not hit anybody or break any windows. How bad was your storm?

message 1278: by [deleted user] (new)

I know! It could have easily hit our house. The storm was pretty bad, but there have been worse. He said he's going to stake it down now. I assumed it was already. Hmmm...

I have to have something to do while you are sitting in waiting rooms. You know I'll always be true blue to you! xp

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments We missed the rain, so we are having another gorgeous day today. Yay! I'm thinking about calling up a couple of friends and doing a quick out of town to eat later. Good day for a drive. Of course, I do have that book I really want to read on today, too--A Murderous Procession and my back porch is calling to me, too.

We get a lot of gusting winds with our rain, and those trampolines are like a big, lightweight sail. It rained so hard here one night (some years back) that the wind shook the house (two story) and woke us up. The thunder shakes the house sometimes, too, but only when it's really close.

I, too, missed the gardening gene, Lee. And the sewing gene. I've finally accepted that. I mean, really, all the gardening time my friends tell me about spending in their yards, and all I can think is, "I could have read a lot in a book during that time." LOL

Lee, I don't really have a green thumb either but I think that rosemary does well in pots. Smells good too!

message 1285: by [deleted user] (new)

Kathy, I'm forcing myself to grow the gardening gene. There are some days that I just need to dig in dirt to feel better. A good psychiatrist could probably tell me why that is if I ever take the time, haha!

Rosemary does smell good doesn't it? Someone once gave me a potted rosemary bush in the shape of a mini christmas tree. I managed to kill it in record time. :-) I may have to do some research!

I think they like to be in the ground... I've managed to kill several in pots. I love the smell of rosemary. Basil too!

message 1290: by [deleted user] (new)

Good morning to you both, and everyone! It's dreary, wet, cold, and yuck here today. Benjamin and I are working on a state report (and he chose Hawaii...I wish I were there instead of writing about it).

I haven't read anything in a couple of days. I need a kick or something. Somebody kick me!

I love plants and flowers, but I am a hopeless gardener; I even manage to kill cactuses. That is also why is leave my lawn etc. in a natural state, if I tried to plant and grow things, there would not be much left.

Okay you two, both of you are banished to your rooms until you can play nicely together! :-)

Well it's nice to wake up to the Christine and Jeannette comedy routine. It always puts a smile on my face!

It's a rainy day here too.

And we don't even get paid for this! Is this a public service we are doing?? :) (Makes one feel noble.)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments We have rosemary, but not in a pot. We planted it in the back garden when we moved here, and 25 or so years later we have the rosemary bush that ate the South.

Luckily, we all love rosemary.

When I lived in Seattle I saw it grown as a shrub (it didn't die in the Winter) and I thought it was wonderful, especially in bloom.
