"I'm more worried about you if she told him why," Rebecca said.

Christian thought about that for a second. "You think he's petty enough to blame me?" he asked.
"I don't know that he isn't," Rebecca said.
Christian sighed. "Well. I'll see you later " he said, before disappearing into their shadow.
Rebecca shrugged then went to finish the last few things on her summer assignment.
Christian floated along in the shadows, trying to figure out what to do, his only inkling of how much time was passing being the growing agitation of the shadows, as they usually got more hostile at night. It was as he was doing this that he caught a whisper, a dark thought like any other. it wouldn't have caught His attention at all, were it not for the fact that it said her name, 'Sabrina'. But when he tried to find the source, he found he couldn't trace it, something he'd always been able to do with any shadow. He was so shocked he slipped from the shadow world to the real one through the last shadow he'd traveled into the regular world with - Aleks.
"Here to gloat?" Alek said through his teeth, without looking at Christian.
Christian shrugged. "No, my being here was an accident. But you sure do make it sound tempting."
Alek's fists were balled at his sides while he tried to keep himself from attacking him.
Christian realized he'd been in the shadows too long - longer than he'd thought, even - when his vision darkened, his irises with it until the brown was practically black, and the shadows started clinging to him, bringing out the worst parts of him until he said, teasingly, "She's a great kisser."
The words had barely passed his lips before Alek hand was wrapped around his throat. "Taunting a vampire... Probably the stupidest thing you've ever done. Second only to stealing ones girlfriend. "
"I didn't have to steal her," Christian said with a very uncharacteristic smirk, "She came to me."
Alek's grip tightened and he lifted Christian off the ground. "Then it's a pity that now she'll have no one."
Christian spit at him.Sabrina, who was out hunting, picked up Christians voice, and when she realized it had been an entire six hours since she'd seen him, she had to go find him. When she saw what was happening, she asked, "What are you doing to him?!", horrified.
"Nothing he didn't bring on himself," Alek answered, sounding bored.
"Can't you see something's wrong with him?" Sabrina snapped like it was obvious. "Look at his eyes!" They were beyond black now, seeming to almost pull light into them and snuff it out. It almost made Sabrina shiver as she walked up to them, her powers driving away the shadows clinging to Christian until his eyes lightened to brown again. A scared, confused brown as he'd been so lost in the shadows he'd forgotten everything that had happened under their influence and could only process the fact that he was quickly losing his ability to breathe.
Alek held him for several more long seconds then flung him like a doll to Sabrina.
Sabrina caught him as gently as she could, glaring at Alek. Christian coughed, and stood. "What happened?" he asked.
Alek ignored Christian, meeting Sabrina's glare with eyes void of any emotion. "He started it," he shrugged.
"Are we on an elementary school playground?" Sabrina said. "Who cares who started it? You could have really hurt him!"Christian glanced at His shadow and searched for the last few minutes. When he saw what had happened - what he had said - he grew pale.
"Really?" Alek mocked. "I thought it was just like shaking hands."
"Now you're just being a jerk." Sabrina said, unamused.Christian couldn't decide if he should leave by walking, and risk drawing unwanted attention to himself, or leave through the shadows again and risk worsening their influence the second time with someone a lot less likely to control their anger. so for the time being he just stood silently.
"Let's go, Christian," Sabrina said, taking his hand and leading him away. "I'll hang out with you until the shadows go away." Christian walked alongside her, surprised at how she'd completely stopped paying attention to Alek. Even if she didn't like him anymore, Christian knew Sabrina wasn't one to just cruelly ignore someone she'd hurt - once again making him think that something wasn't quite right.
{{oops Alek not Rebecca. Hehe}}Alek rolled his eyes and went home.
"Sorry." Christian said as they walked."What do you have to apologize for?" Sabrina asked .
"Oh, plenty." Christian replied. "Look, why did you break up with Alek? Really "
"I told you. I realized I liked you more." Sabrina said. "Why does it matter? Unless...do you not like me like that?" she asked, eyes wide.
Christian groaned, "trust me, that's not it at all. "
"Then what's the problem?" Sabrina asked, confused .
"Because it doesn't make sense!" Christian said. "Just yesterday you were head over heels for the guy!"
"That was yesterday. What do I have to do to prove to you that I really love you?" Sabrina said.
"You don't have to prove anything to me " Christian sighed. "Its just-"
"Look, do you want to date me or not?" Sabrina asked.
"I've wanted to date you since the day I met you." Christian replied.
"Then we don't have a problem." Sabrina said as they arrived at his house. She kissed him quickly, then left.
Christian sat on the steps in front of his house, and knowing that such a foolish action was probably lately due to the late evening shadows, allowed himself to entertain the idea that maybe she really liked him, no strings attached. And then maybe it'd snow sprinkles.
"You ok?" Rebecca asked, coming out to sit next to him.
"What happ... What the hell is this?!?" Rebecca tilted his chin back to get a better look at a hand shapes bruise that was forming on his neck.
"My fault." Christian said. "After I left you I got distracted and spent too much time in the shadows. I accidentally exited through Aleks shadow just as the effects of the shadow travel hit me, and I said some...uncharacteristic things. Anyway, what you see is result of that."
Rebecca's eyes flashed and the bruise vanished. "What did you say?" She asked.
"No wonder he tried to kill you," Rebecca said.
"How are you not dead?" Rebecca asked.
"Sabrina intervened." Christian explained. "She told him I didn't know what I was doing."
"I think she overheard." Christian said.
"So how are things with Sabrina?" Rebecca asked.
Christian shrugged. "OK, I guess." he said.
"You don't sound to sure," Rebecca said.
"Its just sudden." Christian said. "In a suspicious way that makes me more worried than happy "
"So what are you gonna do about it?" Rebecca asked.
"You keep asking me that, and I still don't know." Christian said. "What would you do?"
"Depends," Rebecca said. "Are we talking before we moved here or after I stopped being a b**ch?"
"Tell me both. The more reference points the better." Christian said.
"Before I wouldn't have cared," Rebecca said. "I got my way, end of story. Now... I'd probably try to find out what happened to change her mind. If it really was just coming to the realization that you're the one she wants then great; but if it's not, then figure it out from there."
"Yeah, I'm probably just going to do the second thing." Christian said. "Its just...well, if there's really something weird going on, it'll be disappointing."
"Well I hope you find out that there is absolutely nothing going on her life other than this," Rebecca said.
"yeah..." Christian said. "What about you, how are things?" he asked.
