This really is a great way to understand the context of Aboriginal issues in Australia, and to get a sense of cross-cultural awareness. I was lucky enough to undertake Trudgen's course as well, which helped a lot.

I'd like to point out for anyone not acquainted with Aboriginal cultures in Australia, that this book is focussed purely on the Yolngu culture - one of hundreds of rich aboriginal cultures that existed in Australia pre-colonialism. Whilst many of these cultures have been largely destroyed, there is still a huge diversity of cultures alive and strong in Australia today. So the detailed cultural information provided here may not apply elsewhere in the country.

Still a MUST READ though for anyone interested in modern Indigenous issues.
