I am going to be listening to St. Francis of Assisi by G.K. Chesterton over the holidays. It's a free choice on Audible, and I was able to find a paperback at the library as well.I don't know if anyone else would be interested, but if so, I'm happy to buddy read it. Otherwise, I'll just do it myself. It's very short, only 4 hours on audio. The paperback is less than 200 pages.
I've always been curious about St. Francis, and having just read our group read by Chesterton, it's a good time for me to pick it up.
I will join you!! I always have trouble finding buddies who want to read Chesteron and I'm thrilled that you've found him and are excited to read more of his works!

I would like to join you for The King of Elfland's Daughter

I'd like to join you. I read a short story by him last year and thought I'd like to try more. It's on Hoopla so I know I can get it anytime.
Cleo wrote: "I will join you!! I always have trouble finding buddies who want to read Chesteron and I'm thrilled that you've found him and are excited to read more of his works!"Great Cleo! I plan to read it sometime within December 22 to December 31.
Sara, is two of us enough to have a buddy read thread set up?

I remember hearing stories about him when I was a child, and would like to know more about him. The short book is on Project Gutenberg and other sites if anyone else is considering reading it.
I'll join in the St. Francis of Assissi buddy read. I too found it on Audible at no extra.cost. I will look for a ebook or print copy too.
Greg wrote: "Great Cleo! I plan to read it sometime within December 22 to December 31...."That sounds great to me, Greg! This is an excellent biography of Chesterton's to start with. In his other biographies, he apparently tends to analyze more than present the person's life history (which some people say they enjoy more. Ha ha!) but Saint Francis is viewed as well-presented as well as insightful. So, I expect it will be a very good read.
Ya, Cynda and Connie that you're joining as well. It will be wonderful to add more voices to the discussion! 🎉

It seems like it would be a great time of the year to be reading about him as well. I've never read Chesterton and have been wanting to.
I read The Everlasting Man also by G.K. Chesterton. If Chesterton is new to you or if you do not read his writing regularly, his writing can be dense. I may not have had Audible them, so I used Librivox along with the ebook. The audio format made the book much more accessible. I recommend an audiobook format which is available on YouTube as well.
Sara, would you please set up buddy reads of the Margaret Atwood trilogy: The MaddAddam Trilogy: Oryx and Crake / The Year of the Flood / MaddAddam. Rose and I hope others will join us too.February: Oryx and Crake
March: The Year of the Flood
May: MaddAddam

Rose and I hope ot..."I am not making commitments yet since I am still in a bit of a slump and behind in reading but I am reading Book of Lives: A Memoir of Sorts and it certainly is inspiring me to read more Atwood. I suggest the memoir to go along with your reading of the trilogy. It is a traditional treatment that I think you would like Cynda.
Yes you are right Sam. I will see if I can find a copy of Atwood's memoir. Thank you. . . .Maybe things will be different and you can join in.
Threads are now set up for both St. Francis of Assissi and The King of Elfland's Daughter.
Greg Just for future reference, I am happy to set up a thread for two people to read together.
Cynda Do you have a date for when you want to begin the trilogy?

Cynda wrote: "Sara, would you please set up buddy reads of the Margaret Atwood trilogy: The MaddAddam Trilogy: Oryx and Crake / The Year of the Flood / MaddAddam. Rose and I hope ot..."Cynda, I'm strongly considering joining you on this read, if only to learn more about Margaret Atwood's writing to see if I like her or not. I read "The Handmaid's Tale" -- twice! 30 years apart! -- and didn't like it either time. The only other one I've read by her was Hag-Seed which I really enjoyed (but it was written for that Hogarth Shakespeare Series, so I don't count it as really her writing)! So, I feel like if I read this one with others it might be helpful to me. Hope I can fit it in! :)
Thank you Sara. This is how will break up the Atwood trilogy.During the entire month of February, we will read the first of the trilogy: Oryx and Crake.
During the entire month of March, we will read the second of the trilogy: The Year of the Flood.
During the entire month of May. we will read the third of the trilogy:MaddAddam.
Terris, I read some of Atwood's early work as a young woman. I have forgotten (medical issues) all but the Handmaid's Tale which was more horrifying when reading as a young woman. I wonder if I will still be enchanted. . . . I hope you will try either this trilogy or maybe read some of the stories Kathleen and I will read in April: Dancing Girls and Other Stories. That might be easier to check in and tap out as wanted.
