Wow , Sara , This Rough Magic , too , seems irresistible! Hope we can manage a Buddy Read next year ! I have become so spoilt by Goodreads, I hate to read a book by myself now ... it's not so much fun 😕!
Thanks for the suggestion, and hoping you , yourself, may join a Mary Stewart Buddy Read sometime.

Kathleen | 5508 comments Cynda wrote: "Is there still interest in reading Dancing Girls and Other Stories by Margaret Atwood? Maybe early in the year?"

I'm definitely interested! Any time January or after.

message 203: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments Sounds good to me. Kathleen! Let's see if others chime in.

message 204: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2542 comments Lynn, I may join for Moon Spinners, but it somewhat depends on where I am with my challenges. I will check back in later.

Terris | 4415 comments Sara wrote: "I will add the Moon-Spinners to the schedule for December. I am very happy to see the interest in Mary Stewart. She was a pivotal author for me. I think she is one of the reasons I became an avid r..."

I have already read The Moonspinners so won't be joining this buddy read. But I'm definitely adding This Rough Magic to my list! I love that the setting is on Corfu. After watching "The Durrells" on PBS I have a clear picture of the island and will enjoy returning there! :)

message 206: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5508 comments Uh oh. If you do a buddy read of This Rough Magic I would have to join. I remember Sara's review of this one.

message 207: by Teri-K (new)

Teri-K | 1252 comments I'll happily join with The Moonspinners, second Sara's recommendation of Rough Magic and add my own personal favorite, My Brother Michael. I love the way Stewart weaves history into that one.

message 208: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4415 comments I would join buddy reads for "This Rough Magic" and "My Brother Michael"! Maybe we could schedule for next year -- one in February and the next a few months later? I'll be watching to see what everyone thinks :)

Wobbley | 2875 comments Terris wrote: "I would join buddy reads for "This Rough Magic" and "My Brother Michael"! Maybe we could schedule for next year -- one in February and the next a few months later? I'll be watching to see what everyone thinks :)"

Yes, I'd join too.

I'm always happy to reread Mary Stewart. I will make room on my schedule next year for any the group might want to read.

message 211: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments Sara would you please schedule a buddy read of Dancing Girls and Other Stories by Margaret Atwood. Kathleen and I will read in January 2025. All are invited to join in.

message 212: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1096 comments Terris wrote: "I would join buddy reads for "This Rough Magic" and "My Brother Michael"! Maybe we could schedule for next year -- one in February and the next a few months later? I'll be watching to see what ever..."

Oh yes, I'll join both reads , too , This Rough Magic and My Brother Michael . The above spaced out schedule will be very helpful 😊 .

message 213: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1096 comments Sara wrote: "I'm always happy to reread Mary Stewart. I will make room on my schedule next year for any the group might want to read."

How nice , Sara , already looking forward to your comments 😊 !

I am going to try to start each book a little ahead of the schedule ( given my slow pace 🐌🙃 ) , so I can read the spoiler comments of
other members concomitantly, instead of loooong afterwards !

message 214: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments Sara would you please add The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe to the February 2026 buddy reads? Franky and I will be reading and hope others will join us.

message 215: by KeenReader (last edited Oct 26, 2025 03:02AM) (new)

KeenReader | 29 comments I probably won't be able to join in with The Moonspinners in December but I'd be interested in any Mary Stewart buddy reads in 2026. I'd also like to join the The Mysteries of Udolpho buddy read in Feb. I've had a copy of that for ages but somehow something always comes up when I think about starting.

message 216: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments Thanks KeenReader. We will be glad to have you join us.

message 217: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2057 comments ooh! I have The Mysteries of Udolpho down for December, but it's quite long and I'm choc-a til the end of the year
so any excuse to postpone this a little while ;o)
I will join in Feb.

message 218: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments Thanks Darren ;)

message 219: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4415 comments Since "The Mysteries of Udolpho" is being scheduled for February, what does everybody think about reading This Rough Magic in March? Let us know what you think! :)

message 220: by Teri-K (last edited Oct 26, 2025 12:33PM) (new)

Teri-K | 1252 comments Terris wrote: "Since "The Mysteries of Udolpho" is being scheduled for February, what does everybody think about reading This Rough Magic in March? Let us know what you think! :)"

Fine with me, but I would prefer not to put it off too long. The books are fairly quick reads, after all. And I've read Udolpho, I probably won't again.

message 221: by Greg (new)

Greg | 1043 comments Based on posts in the currently reading thread, I'd like to propose a Buddy Read of The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje in 2026.

For others interested, when month should we do it? January?

Then, since February is my personal preference I think I will ask for that.

Sara, please schedule This Rough Magic as a buddy read for February :)

Franky | 568 comments Lynn wrote: "Several people reading Touch Not the Cat are interested in another Mary Stewart book. Can we read The Moon-Spinners perhaps in December?"

I would love to join. I purchased this book about a month ago and have been wanting to reading it too.

Thank you, Greg! January would be okay with me, but February would be better. I'm happy with whatever works for everyone else.

I have updated the schedule. You guys pop over and make sure I didn't leave anything off.

message 226: by Sara, New School Classics (new)

Sara (phantomswife) | 9753 comments Mod
Greg, I will give you time to get some responses but will add it to the schedule whenever you tell me you are ready.

message 227: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2542 comments Greg, I am okay with January, February, March, or April.

message 228: by CJ (new)

CJ | 63 comments If I can get my reading back on track, I'll join for The Mysteries of Udolpho, a book I started earlier this year but accepted I would not have time for it, so set it aside. I still want to read Touch Not the Cat, but might not get to it until December at the rate I'm going. I had a surgery last September and am still way behind on my reading schedule.

message 229: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments CJ here's hoping that you heal well from your surgery. This read of The Mysteries of Udolpho will be a third read for me. I will be listening to the audio book as I heal from a surgery in January. Like you are now, I will be reading slow, over a period of two months--just as I have in the past. So you need not try to speed through the long novel.

message 230: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2057 comments re English Patient - would prefer March or later
but could do Jan/Feb at a pinch ;o)

message 231: by Sara, New School Classics (new)

Sara (phantomswife) | 9753 comments Mod
So many surgeries, it seems, lately. Hoping you continue to heal from yours, CJ, and that you get caught up on the reading eventually. I'll have you in my thoughts, Cynda, as you face yours in January.

message 232: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments Thank you kind Sara

message 233: by Greg (new)

Greg | 1043 comments If you're ok with March Kathleen, let's plan on March. I have a tendency to forget when reads are far away, but I'll add it to my appointment calendar so I hopefully don't forget!

So thanks Sara, and I guess it's me, Kathleen, Darren, Cynda, and Terry so far for the English Patient in March.

But others are of course very welcome to join if anyone else wants to. I'm looking forward to finally reading it!

message 234: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5266 comments Yes Greg. March works for me.

Welcome to the Touch Not the Cat read, CJ , which you hope to join in December ! It's a lovely book , though I've read only upto chapter 5 , as yet .
I hope you've recovered well from your September surgery. Nothing like a good book to cheer you up !

Cynda , through Sara's post , I understand that you're due for a surgery in January . My good wishes to you that the surgery and the recovery may go smoothly , and you'll be soon back to good health and sharing our buddy reads with us .

Greg , I'll be joining The English Patient March buddy read, too . This is going to be a serious read ( from the blurb) , different from the ongoing Mary Stewart reads which are light , but really very beautiful.

message 250: by Connie (new)

Connie G (connie_g) | 863 comments Greg, I'm going to try to fit in The English Patient in March too. I loved it when I read it a few years ago, and I feel like I could get even more out of it on a second read. The patient is on morphine for his injuries so his memories are recalled in a fog. Don't worry--there are lucid characters in the book too!
