The Mademoiselle Alliance by Natasha Lester is a brilliant account of Marie Madeleine Fourcade, an amazing woman, who was the leader of the Alliance intelligence network in France during WW2. I can't believe I've never heard of her before. review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Irish author Jess Kidd's new novel, Murder at Gulls Nest, is the first of what I bet will be a popular new cosy mystery series. Former nun Nora Breen is exasperatingly 'helpful' to a local detective. 😊
My review of Murder at Gulls Nest
The Third Man is the classic Graham Greene post WW2 mystery set in occupied Vienna. It has been produced in many formats, text, script, film, and this fully dramatised version I refer to as a radio play. So good!

Two crime-based books, one is possible a parody and one is actually a parody. Despite minor flaws, both are fun to read!1. Where the Bones Lie by Nick Kolakowski
A detective thriller that pays ode to classic sleuth stories but with an unlikely sleuth.

2. The Awful Truth About The Sushing Prize by Marco Ocram
I have never read a book such as this! The premise is outrageously creative. If you enjoy satire, try this.

Candide – Voltaire – 4****
This is perhaps Voltaire’s best-known work. The novella follows the callow Candide as he travels the world searching for his true love, Cunégonde, accompanied by his faithful servant / companion Cacambo. Voltaire managed to skewer virtually all “important” institutions of the day in this satirical fable. Among his adventures across the globe, Candide comes across Jesuits, the Inquisition, cannibals, El Dorado, pirates, an old woman, healers, merchants, etc. He frequently relies on the teachings of Pangloss to see him through, maintaining optimism in the face of adversity.

I read Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy and was once again blown away by this author's lyrical prose that hypnotizes you in the best possible way. Highly advise each of her previous books also - all are a love letter to nature with dire warnings about climate control all wrapped up in a tale of mysterious suspense. 5 Stars! My Review
Wizard of Most Wicked Ways by Charlie N. Holmberg
Book Four of the Whimbrel House series, this historical fantasy will work only for those who have read and enjoyed the previous three books.
