Shadows of Winter Robins by AA Louise Wolhuter starts out as the story of a child's difficult upbringing, overlaid with secrets about her mother and her family, and later moving into dark and unexpected places as the truths are revealed. So good!review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
So far, I've enjoyed everything I've read by Aussie author Michael Robotham. For many years, he was a journalist in London, a place he knows well, where The White Crow is set. I like the premise of the daughter of a gangster being a young detective. Of course, Philomena's always suspected by both sides of leaking information, but Robotham makes it work.

Cut Off from Sky and Earth by Melissa F. Miller
