Great work!!

Today is the big day!! You have worked long and hard for this. To complete this section, read one book for each task. Relay teams may divide the tasks between them as they see fit.
After these 4 books are completed, roll a single die for your next prompt. Relay teams only roll once for the team.

https://www.random.org/dice/

1. Early miles: Smiling - at the beginning of a marathon everyone is generally very excited and happy because today is the BIG DAY. Read a book where one or more characters are very excited and happy about an event. Say what the event is.
2. Mid miles: This is getting hard - as the race miles build up, most runners start to experience some fatigue. The body definitely sends signals that it is working much harder. Read a book where a character gets into a situation that becomes progressively more difficult as time wears on. Say what the situation is.
3. 20 miles: Why did I sign up for this??? There is often a point in a marathon where runners begin to doubt themselves and have serious second thoughts about what in the world they are doing out there. Read a book where a character has serious self doubt about a course of action they have set out on. Say what it is.
4. Race finish: Exhultation, hunger and exhaustion. You have DONE IT! At the end of a marathon you are depleted of all energy stores but also ecstatic because of your accomplishment. Read a book where a character completes some monumental effort and is now wiped out but also happy. Say what it is. NOTE: There is one more die roll following this step.

5. (optional - after your die roll is complete...) Sign up for another race! Lots of runners feel a let down after the intense cycle of training for and running a marathon. One common result is that many will start looking for their next race challenge shortly after their marathon finish. If you are among this infected group, simply go back to Section I and start again!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 820 comments Task #1: Read a book where one or more characters are very excited and happy about an event. Say what the event is.

Book: Hooked on You
Author: Kathleen Fuller
Read: 4 September
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: Everyone, specifically Mimi and Gwen, were all excited about the July 4th church picnic coming up.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 820 comments Task #3: Read a book where a character has serious self doubt about a course of action they have set out on. Say what it is.

Book: Sky Full of Elephants
Author: Cebo Campbell
Read: 5 September
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: Charlie has serious self-doubt about his course of action. When he goes to meet his daughter, Sidney, he's very unsure. On one hand, he wants the connection. On the other hand, he's riddled with doubt about whether he can face her without bringing the full weight of his past crashing down.

Trisha | 408 comments 2. Read a book where a character gets into a situation that becomes progressively more difficult as time wears on. Say what the situation is.

Book: A Step Past Darkness
Author: Vera Kurian
Read: 9/17
Rating: 4 stars
how it works: when they are kids, they swear to not talk to each other again so they remain safe. But that proves harder and harder and some of them break and google each other. they finally meet back up as adults after Maddy dies

message 218: by Trisha (new)

Trisha | 408 comments 4. Race finish: Read a book where a character completes some monumental effort and is now wiped out but also happy.

Book: Wrong Place Wrong Time
Author: Gillian McAllister
read: 9/10
Rating: 4 staras
how it works: Jen has to figure out why her son would kill someone. She becomes in a vortex of days going backwards as she learns new secrets. She has to face that her son did this and why he would and what all the secrets she learns mean. Once she knows, she knows what she needs to do and is so relieved she got an answer.

Trisha | 408 comments oop, sorry, I though we rolled after we chose a new race, not before!

Roll: 6

Yeah, I didn't realize it worked out kind of weird until after I had the challenge up and going. Sorry for the confusion!
Also, it kind of matches the emotional WTF kind of fatigue that hits at the end of a race. You have less than a mile to go and just have nothing left to give, usually.

6 = You hit the 20-mile mark and you are not actually dying. You trained well, and you're going to make it! Spell out GOING HOME.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 820 comments I'm so sorry I got behind while gone and now I see you already covered so many of the letters that I could've helped with, but I have NO O or I books from all the ones I've read. :(

I will look for something to cover those two letters, but give me a little time. I'll let you know in a bit if I have something and have access to it. I'm sure I must!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 820 comments OK, I have The Other Side of Now by Paige Harbison for O

I can read The Iron Raven (The Iron Fey Evenfall, #1) by Julie Kagawa for I but I probably won't get to it until Tuesday after this round of Turf Wars. IF I can fit in in before then, I will.
