Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1602 comments Wow Jazzy! You had 2 large books read in the last week. I hope we get to use them for a task that gives 3 times the usual book rates. Well done😉

I want to re-read the Tolkien books again. I read them so many years ago. The Hobbit is one of my favorites.

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1602 comments I have a request, as you all get time over the next few days, can you please update the Book Log? There may be an opportunity to get some benefit from books on the log that have not been used on the board, so the more entered, the better! If you can't enter your books on the SS or don't have enough time, please us now (Jazzy & Jessica, we got you covered).

Thanks!

Hello Bookopoly Gamers!

We have an exciting addition to Bookopoly for the "end" of the game! In order for everyone's read books to be used, I will be allowing a Game End Deposit - with a twist!

Each team can deposit their unused books into a "Savings Account" - BUT unlike your salary deposit, your "Savings Account" earns interest over time.

The interest rate depends on the date of deposit and you earn at a higher rate the earlier you deposit books.

Deposit Date Interest Rate (%)
15-Sep-2024 5.00%
16-Sep-2024 4.00%
17-Sep-2024 3.50%
18-Sep-2024 3.25%
19-Sep-2024 3.00%
20-Sep-2024 2.75%
21-Sep-2024 2.50%
22-Sep-2024 2.25%
23-Sep-2024 2.00%
24-Sep-2024 1.75%
25-Sep-2024 1.50%
26-Sep-2024 1.25%
27-Sep-2024 1.00%
28-Sep-2024 0.75%
29-Sep-2024 0.50%
30-Sep-2024 0%

Note: Buddy Reads will still earn bonus value, plus their specific interest rate.

For example: A 100 page book deposited into your Savings Account on 15-Sep-2024 would earn an additional 75 pages of value, making the book worth $17.50! That same 100 page book, if deposited on the last day of the challenge would only be worth $10, it's normal value.

Of course, there is a catch! - Once you deposit a book into your Savings Account, YOU MAY NOT WITHDRAW IT!! As a team, you will have to carefully decide when to deposit your unused books to maximize their value and contribute more effectively to your team net worth, while still allowing your team to have books to use for the challenge. Of course, you may still read books as you need them.

Decisions!

Deposits may begin on 15-Sep-2024. Don't forget! Once you add it, you may not remove it, so think carefully!

Spreadsheets will be updated within the next few days.

Happy Reading!

Here is the link to the rules about graphic novels.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I could not find it listed so you need to use 25% of the pages which brings it to less than 100 pages.

message 465: by Keli (new)

Keli | 110 comments Thanks for the link. I rarely read graphic novels, so I never bother to read the rules about them. 😳 I just don't add them, if I do happentoread one. I read this as part of another challenge, so thought I would ask. It is definitely not a children's book, so I am not surprised that it can't be found on the ar resource.

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1602 comments Hello fellow 🚂Railroaders🚂!

We have about 2 and a half more weeks of this game and we have a way to earn money for most of our books that might otherwise sit unused on the Book Log. We are trying to figure out the best way for us to maximize our "Savings Account".

• We have quite a few high-volume books that normally be used for salary, but I'm going to use those for the Savings Account deposit on 9/15, to take advantage of that 5% bonus. Jazzy has 10 books with more than 1,000 pages!🥳

• We will pass salary on our next roll, and I think we should use 300-to-350-page books for salary this time around. The board has been moving slow and I’m not sure how many more times we will “get paid”.

• We are also looking over the spreadsheet at the books at the lower end of page counts to consider adding them to the Savings Account, as they will otherwise be useless. Might as well make $175 from a 100-page book.

• We can keep adding to the Savings account, so please keep reading and entering your books on the SS. I looked at everyone’s “Read” shelf and updated the spreadsheet. I think I got everyone up to date through September 11th.

• We may get stuck on a task by deleting books, but you have been wonderful about finding a book when needed.

If you any other thoughts or suggestions about this process, please let us know.

Every book counts!

I think you should add most of the books on the 15th if possible as this will give us the most money. We seem to be adding several books every day so will probably find something to use as needed in those. The game moves slowly. Not much point keeping anything as we won't get the same opportunity to earn this much interest. Even if we don't deposit anything for salary again as more is earning in the savings account.

I think that is what I am going to do. I looked at the properties we may land on in the next few rolls and found books that will fit them. I will hold those books back, just in case. It's not that many. I've highlighted them in yellow on the book log. I agree that we should otherwise be able to find books that we can use based on our team reading.

It's on the spreadsheet for your team's bank, so Michelle's ending balance is correct on the "turns" thread. The amount is "rolled into" the starting balance on Michelle's most recent entry in the turn taking roll.

So, for accounting purposes, and to match Bernadette's ending balance on the turn prior (msg 654 on the turns thread), the starting balance for Michelle's first "turns" post should be $6,355, with money earned as $990.
