Read this in 2021 and rated 5 stars and on my favorite shelf. An emotional, heartwarming, claustrophobic, terrifying science fiction novel. Loved it as much as his first novel The Martian. JAZZY HANDS! JAZZY HANDS! You'll have to read this to understand this phrase!
I agree; I wish I had time to reread it with you all. From my review, I think I can this much without spoilers: There are some great little bits of business/details:
During one of his moments of frustration he wants to have a proper pout, so he pushes himself into a slump in his chair.
"You can't just use 'I'm saving the world' as an excuse every time you act like a jerk."
"If you're upset, take a deep breath, let it out, and count to ten." (italics mine)
I’ve nominated or seconded this one about a half-dozen times in the past couple of years. Glad to see it finally made the cut!
I’ve already jumped in, and I’m enjoying it. I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting the humor, but I’m loving that.
