Task:3rd book in the Zoe Bentely series
Review: 3 stars
This is the 3rd book in the Zoe Bentely series. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others. I do enjoy Zoe and her interactions with others and her lack of social skills. The plot seemed to be so slow for me. I also didn't enjoy the premise used for the serial killer this time. I do enjoy the series so I hope there will be another book.

Review:
I'm so glad I have all the books in this series for free. It's easily the cozy mystery series I most want to follow. I love all the worldbuilding in this and the way we meet and formulate our own suspicions about characters. There's so much going on and it all adds to the story, often in unexpected ways.

Book: Ticket to the World: My 80s Story by Martin Kemp

Date read: 26th March 24
Pages: 298
Task: Alternative - One person on the cover
How it fits: Martin Kemp - One person on the cover
Review:
I enjoyed the audio version of this book, however I do wish it has been read by Martin Kemp as appose to a narrator. It spoilt the story for me somewhat.
The book is a mix of everything 80's. Its take us on trip down memory lane, as Martin talks about growing up in London being part of starting the new romantic phase. The rise to fame or Martin and his band mates in Spandet Ballet and all about the different music venues and sounds that were coming out of London in those days. He talks about many other famous musicians and artists who the bank played with at the time and it was really great to be reminded of so many wonderful things the 80's represented.

Book: The Dark Bones

Author: Loreth Anne White
Date Read: 3/28/2024
How it Fits: One person on the cover:
Review:
When I started reading this I didn't realize that it was actually the second installment in the Dark Lure series. While there may have been information regarding the back stories of characters, I didn't feel like there was any issue reading this book as a stand alone and not in the order of the series. (After reading it, I do plan on going back and reading the first book however!)
I really enjoyed this book. I've never read anything by this author before and wasn't sure what to expect. Simply put - this is an absolute page-turner!
It starts off with a brutal chase scene that immediately grabs all of your intention. Then the main character's father dies and you learn that his death may somehow be tied back to that initial scene. The answers to how, why, and who develop into a magnificent plot that is sure to keep you reading.
Great book! I look forward to reading more by this author in the near future!

How it fits: #4 in series
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
Paige Winterborne and Lucas are investigating killings of the Cabal's children. They have to travel to Miami and deal with Lucas' father who is the head of the Cabal and his brothers who dislike him. Along the way they met a necromancer/tv personality who is a bit flaky but very good at what she does. Pretty much everyone in the past books get a little time in this book. Elena and Clay feature a bit more than others. I will be continuing to read this series as it keeps changing and moving along nicely.
I'm not to crazy about the narrator for this but it was okay.

This is the 6th in the Amelia Peabody series
Review:
I really enjoy this series. I have read many of these out of order and they are so well written it doesn’t impact my enjoyment. The characters are wonderful and currently Ramses is my favorite, love that little kid. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series

How it fits: This is the #6 book in the Murderbot series
Review:
I always love Murderbot. In this one he/she is investigating a death on Preservation Station. He has to interact with people and Murderbot hates that. He just wants to get back to his media stories and forget about everyone else. This is a short book and was the perfect length. I thought the last was a bit too long. Looking forward to the next one.

Review:
I really enjoyed this book. I was hooked by the story within a story set up.
A scream is heard in the Boston Public Library and a woman is later found dead. Four random strangers happened to be sitting near one another when the incident occurs and they soon become fast friends. When one of those four is also attacked, suspicions arise. How much do these four people really know about one another? Could one of them be a murderer?
To top it off, while this story is unfolding, you also have correspondence occurring between the writer of the story and Leo (an obsessed fan). Over time, the reader gets to know Leo better through his letters (and comes to recognize just how creepy he really is!).
I enjoyed so much about this book. I thought the characters were well developed and enjoyed the Boston setting. I also liked how they author plays around with various tropes within the mystery genre (everyone is a suspect, the absence of evidence and the locked room mystery to name a few).
The only thing I thought could have been better would have been if the relationship between Leo and Hannah was more elaborate. The reader gets to see only Leo's letters, not her replies. I think her responses would have added some additional depth and dimension to the overall story!
This is the first time I've read this author and I look forward to reading more.

Book: The Bordeaux Book Club

Author: Gillian Harvey
Pages: 316
Rating: 3.5 stars
How it Fits: Alternate Choice- Author begins with a "G"
Review:
Gillian Harvey transports the readers to the picturesque countryside of France. In this book we mean Leah who has recently moved to the region with her Husband and Daughter. The move is not going as planned. Her Husband is never around, her Daughter hates her and everybody else. So when one of her new friends mentions the book club she is forming for ex pats, Leah jumps at the chance to make more friends and carve a new life out for herself in France. The book club I formed of a group of misfits, people who would most likely walk past each other on the street. Without realising it they are about to form friendships that will last a lifetime and help some of them through the trials and tribulations of life.
Ia really enjoyed this book the setting was beautiful and the author describes the scenery so well. Makes me want to add Bordeaux on to my Wishlist!

How it Fits: Author B
Review:
There are so many things I liked about this book:
1. The cast of characters is all animals. How adorable is that?
2. The setting of Shady Hollow is charming and delightful.
3. It's a great break from murder mysteries where the young woman is tortured and murdered. In this book, the unfortunate victim is Otto the toad.
4. The plot is good. I wasn't 100% sure of the who and why until close to the end.
5. The cover is gorgeous.
6. The characters are fun and witty!
7. It's a perfect book for a one sitting quick read.
I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be reading the next one in the series!

Book: Finding Friends at the Cornish Country Hospital

Author: Jo Bartlett
Pages: 322
Rating: ****
How it Fits: Alternate Choice- Author 'B'
Review:
I am a fan of Jo Bartletts Cornish Midwife series so thought this new series set in a Cornish A&E department would also be up my street. I am definitely not disappointed, I really like the authors writing style and her character development. Each character has their own trials and tribulations but Bartlett always ensures they come together as friends and a community to help each other out. She also always manages to add a little bit of romance within her books and this one was no exception. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Esther and Jo. As I haven't read the first book in the series, I feel I have missed out on the relationship between Esther and her bff Danni and the background on her previous failed relationship. I will probably go back and read it at some point. But it didn't put me off enjoying this installement.
A great new series which I am sure I will enjoy.

Book: Witch Is When It All Began
Author: Adele Abbott
Date Read: 3/20/2024
Pages: 212
Task: Has at least 5 words
How it Fits: 5 plus words
Review: 3 stars
This was an okay book.
Jill is a P.I who was adopted at a young age. When she tried to connect with her birth mother when she was older, she was turned away. Jill gets a phone call that her mother is dying and has requested to see her. When Jill goes, “You’re a witch” are the only words her mother says to her. Hurt and confused, Jill vows to have nothing to do with the remaining newly discovered family members she has. Her new family has other plans however.
Meanwhile Jill is working a murder case to make ends meet. She’s making little progress but vows not to give up.
I think this book basically serves to set up the series . The reader gets a brief introduction to all of the characters and learns a bit about each of them. There is also the hint of a possible romance in the future. Plus the reader gets to see how the newly discovered information Jill has learned about herself may lead to problems down the road.
The mystery part of this book is only minimally developed and doesn’t feel like a cohesive part of the story. Maybe the mystery part in future installments will be more in depth.
There is also a one eyed cat in this book. I normally love when animals are included in books but Jill “loves to hate “ this cat and Mrs. V is always talking about wanting to kill it.
Anyway, it’s a quick read and has potential. I’ll probably try another one in the series and then decide from there if I want to continue on.
