Week #6 ~ Spot #40
Book ~ Truths We Seek 4.5* ✔️ 3/26
Author ~ Angel Lawson
Pages ~ 237 pages
How qualifies ~ Thistle Cove #4
Review ~ so in book #3, they made you think one thing and it wasn't true. Yes we find out who did some things but BD wasn't who they said it was. Then, something else happened that made the group think it was over. I knew it wasn't over.

But it still kept me guessing up until the end of who BD really was. I thought if it had to be one of the main players it was going to be one person...
Wrong. So Wrong.

& we finally found out the truth about what happened to Rose. I took off a half a 🌟 because I wanted that scene that happened with BD and not a Fade to Black and then pick back up in the aftermath when they busted in. I felt cheated.

So they're lucky I didn't take off more than half a star. But since I read the book in less than 24 hours I didn't feel like I could do that. I could have finished it yesterday but I made myself hold off on the epilogue until this morning. This series is that good.

Although, I did screw myself by reading this series before I read Sparrowwood. Because there are some Majors Spoilers for that series in this one.

Book: The Bone Houses
Author: Emily Lloyd-Jones
Pages: 335
Rating: ****
How it fits: Standalone novel
Review: I'm surprised with myself on how quickly I flew through this book! I'm one of those people that's really into skulls, which is the reason I bought the book, but was surprised to read that the bone houses are more zombies than anything. Once I got reading, I wanted to know what was going to happen. This was a fun read that incorporated some zombie concepts that have been demonstrated in other stories before. I've seen this labeled as young adult, but I would way it's more on the older side of young adult. I couldn't imagine being in high school and not getting freaked out by this book at times, but I very much enjoyed it as an adult.

Oh no! I've read the first 2 in this series, but I've not read Sparrowood. Now I have to stop and switch series!

Space: 40
Book: Free Me
Date Read: 3/24
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: WITSEC #4
Review: It's finally over and Shiloh can now relax and enjoy her life with the Stone brothers. There was a lot of sex, a lot of suspense, and a lot of Shiloh trying to protect the guys, viewing Mr. X as her problem. Luckily (view spoiler) Life is great and relationships outside of the main group are being restored!
This is the final book in the series. I have read all 4 for this challenge, earning us a bonus point.
Book 1 - Message 104
Book 2 - Message 130
Book 3 - Message 183

Yes! Definitely switch series. I can't remember if a certain person shows up at the end of book 3 or the beginning of book 4. But it's a total spoiler for the entire Sparrowwood series! I'm planning to wait for a while until hopefully I forget some of it. Lol

For our next roll if we need to consider using the bonus points to move it I would like to consider as a team whether we want to leave that choice in the hands of our alternate readers.

For us that are reading for the roll, we have two choices. They only have one. And if it comes down to it, we could lose that bonus point. Like some of those tasks for me would be hard as hell. Also, because if it was me I'll be honest I'm not reading a shit task. I'd be all like...

And as a team if they are reading the alternate task every week not knowing what could possibly pop up, when we know it's most likely going to be at least one of two numbers. We should support them the best way we can. Now if they don't care, I say let's save those bonus points.
I mean, I'll be honest, I don't see us pulling out the win with the way we've been rolling the dice anyway. It's just the luck of the draw and we are way behind where we could have been. Which not a big deal I don't do this for the competition I do it to help me get further in my series.

This would be for next week.

Yes this would be for next week. Because that's something that needs to be decided as soon as the roll is done. It's just my opinion that Stormie should have the majority of the say on whether we need to use a bonus point to bump the roll.

Yes, my above comment was for Mamacita's msg in post 218.

Review - Plain and simple, this sucked. The writing was awful and the characters were horrible people. It was an interesting concept, but the way it was written was confusing. Then about 1/3 of the way into the book, the author seemed to go off on some environmental and political rants that made no sense for what was going on at the time. I checked some reviews for this author on some of his other books and the same thing happens in all of his books. I think I will pass on this author.

Book - A Quantum Love Story
Author - Mike Chen
Pages: 368
How it fits: Standalone
Rating: 4/5
It's sad in ways I don't feel necessary. Like the part with Mariana and Shay is just so heavy on grief. And fuck Carter is strange, and not in the way of a crazy scientist but just weird. I really hated his character.
By Chapter 19 even I had lost hope of closing the loop. And by the chapter in England I was back on their team.
I really loved the whole loop plot and there's the undertone of self help plot about living your life as if it resets just like with no regrets. I think it's a really deep book everyone should read at least once.
I hated the characters tho so -1 star for that
STORMIE
No review. Will be using our free pass for this week

If you don't think you will be able to read something for this week let me know as soon as you can.

How far are you on In the Woods? Wouldn't that work for 20th century because the blurb says it's set in 1984.

I am almost at the halfway point. I will try to finish so I can get the review done and we can roll.

I will try, but not sure I can finish in time.

please, may I use it? I don't want to hold things up.

Which week did we get a free pass? Was that one of the weeks you were checking us in?

Which week did we get a free pass? ..."
We got it the first week, when you forgot to include it in the check-in and then messaged Denise. It’s showing in the first post of this thread.
Also, Michelle, I think you have the wrong book/author linked in the check-in post for MawMaw’s The Truths We Seek. Hers was by Angel Lawson.

Rolled: 9 (6 + 3)
Previous Spot: 40
New Spot: 49
What you can read:
#4 in series
#9 in series
Alternate: Title - P
If we use a bonus point:
#50 alternate is Fantasy
#51 alternate is Book to Movie/TV (must state how book qualifies: listopia, imdb, precis)
I'm not doing the alternates, but I do have another 4 to read, so I'm good with staying at 49 or moving up.

Thanks for letting me use a free pass to skip this week, my car is now running again and I am not stressing so much.

Thanks for letting me use..."
No problem. I'm glad the car is up and running now. It's so stressful when they are not behaving.

Stormie, which of the alternates would be your preferred task? It doesn’t make a ton of difference for the people who are reading series.

I have Anxious People if I could use the second word. I will look to see what else I can find

I do have plenty of Fantasy books available. But I will stick with the original roll if the team wants to do that. I can always use an excuse to go to Barnes & Noble and buy some books.

By the way before I forget can someone else roll next week. I believe it is my turn but I completely forgot that my grad day was coming and it's exactly next Friday
