OOF. That baggage car must be stinky right now.

You just earned a random award. One of the higher level ones was returned, so I can bump you up to 5 points if you can use. it.

Hi, Nancy! Thanks for asking.

Technically I'm still playing. I have my next book from the library, but I won't get to it before the 20th! I just wanted to finish it (for my own satisfaction) before the end of 2023. :-)

Yes, last rolls are 12/20, but if you need a bit of extra reading time, that's okay.

Oh yes! Thank you, I can readily use it!

I do hope Ursula is being generous in these final rolls. I hear she is planning a luxurious indulgent end of year vacation in the warm waters off Fiji in the South Pacific, with an add on long weekend over New Years visiting the pearl divers of Japan and Korea - getting first pick of their harvests. I have heard rumors she might have a new gig starting in 2024 but as she doesn't want to work daily any longer, negotiations are at a standstill.

Ok thanks, I am on space 77 and I need to read that book & then use my roll of 2 so I doubt I will finish that board. It is my 2nd Engineer board. I could have advanced faster, but I decided to prioritize other reading goals for about a month. I will try to finish by the 20th though and see what happens.

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments FINAL CALL!

The year long journey for the Subdue the TBR Express will be arriving at its final station stop on time, on the dot of Noon EST, December 20, 2023.

Please look around you and gather all your books, souvenir glasses, and personal belongings in preparation for your final disembarkation. Once you have left the train, there will be no returning for a forgotten item.

The entire train staff is on hand to assist you and make sure you get to your assigned mode of transportation to your next destination, whether it is to your blanket fort, the first meeting of your Books with Friends Silent Book Club, or the Steeplechase Racetrack, JoAnne assures that CGI Tom will have vehicles of all descriptions ready with 'drivers'.

Newsflash from CGI Tom: He's sending Hollywood's best professional Animal Wranglers over to transfer all the mounts from the Baggage Car to their assigned stable at the Steeplechase Racetrack, and help settle them in! You don't need to worry about that! Gnarly is being transported at the same time -- and has a special private room at the racetrack. Since the meowy wowwy is stored in Joy's Magic Trunk, that will go with Gnarly -- no one dares to separate them!

Thanks for riding the Subdue Express! It's been a memorable journey of a life time!

p.s. In my last moments as CEO of the Subdue Express, I banned Ursula and threw her off the back of the caboose. So no one will be shaken up ever again!

Credits: All credit for this post (and much of the ongoing themed creativity) goes to Theresa. If it were left up to me, things would have been so much more dull.

In addition, thank you to Joanne, for her tireless tracking of the player positions with kind volunteer assistance from Rachel, Kate, and Cindy. I couldn't have done this activity without you, Joanne.

message 210: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments Thank you, Anita. A lot of creative credit also goes to those riding the train - thank you all!

Farewell, Ursula .... don't ask me for a recommendation for your next job!

message 211: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments YIPPEE! I am ending my ride in Porter First Class Cafe! Just barely, but I made it more than half way through the Porter Board.

I'm adding my only other earned advantage of +1 to my Roll of 3 = 4, and adding it to the rolls 3 + 5 = 8 and spaces =5 gifted by our marvelous Conductors 8 + 5 = 13. 13+4 = 17- I'm at #57 on my Porter Board.

Will update the tracking on my Porter Board probably tomorrow.

My final Subdue Express read will be a Regency romance -- makes me very happy.

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1779 comments I need another roll, please. Halfway through my book (2)
When I finish this book I will be 13 spots from finishing. Even if I get a 6+6 roll I will be just short. Would you consider doing an extra roll so I can just read straight through?

Also my last roll was a 4+6 which says in the rules ->
6-4 Earn a surprise advantage to use anytime during the game. Would that help me make it to the end?

message 213: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8411 comments Nancy and fellow conductors, thank you for your generosity, but I doubt I'll be able to use your latest offer.

I got shaken up and moved back to spot # 4 ... which I'm about to start.

And you then rolled a 3-1 combo and moved me ahead 14 spaces to spot # 18 ... which I have on hand, but it has to wait til # 4 is done.

I doubt I'll need another roll or advantage before the game ends.

(On the plus side, the travel is over, and the last Xmas package is being shipped out tomorrow, so I can get back to doing some reading. )

message 214: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments Thank you Nancy - All I have to do is finish the Sleepwalker (I am at 50%) and then I can use Anita's dice, my 6 rolls from you, my participation points, and I can roll off the board and graduate.

I have loved this challenge, the spirit that has gone with it, our train ride together, and the comeraderie, and I have read close to or over 40 books for Subdue! I even came to love Gnarly.

message 215: by Theresa (last edited Dec 17, 2023 09:31PM) (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments @Amy - never fear, Gnarly's palatial accommodations at the Steeplechase Racetrack will be next to Sparkles' stable. Gnarly would not allow much distance from you, and plans to keep an eye on Sparkles so she doesn't flirt her way into someone else's stable.

Rachel N. | 2234 comments I'm sure I speak for all of the train riders in issuing a huge THANK YOU to Anita, CEO of the PBT express. I'm sure when you thought up this game you didn't have to expect to roll the dice almost every day (I only remember one day where no one wanted a roll). Your addition of the additional levels after some players finished in a month made the game even more fun for everyone. In appreciation for all of your efforts all of us passengers have ordered the cabana boys to whisk you off to a virtual spa on December 21st where they will keep you well supplied with food, drinks and books (we just wish we could send you to a real spa). Thanks again for everything you do for this group Anita!

Whoopee! Perfect timing.

@ Anita, Linda C earned a special roll from her last roll!

Linda, with your special roll and your new roll today, I think you'll be set. Joanne freed up a smaller award for you in case you need an emergency assist to get to the end.

Congratulations!

ETA I see that Anita spotted it while I was slowly typing. That's a great advantage!

I was going to ask the trainer to find me a female pegasus because my male is a little too rambunctious, but with all the amorous vibes on the track, I'm not sure if it's safe. I don't know if I want a flirt to compete with your darling.

message 230: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments As you each leave the Subdue Express for the final time, be sure that you get your picnic basket from the Cabanna Boys as you depart.

Train crew has divied up all the remaining food and beverage stores into picnic baskets to see you on your way! There are favorite delicacies and beverages in each personalized basket I'm told.

Question on how to finish??
I'm reading for #87 - the Special roll is 12 spaces, putting me at #99 - do I read for that and then move the spaces for the next roll which puts me over? - Do I read for #100 as it's the only number of the roll left or is just getting a roll of more than 1 mean I'm done?
Just wanting to know what I need to read by 12/20: #87, #99, ?

message 232: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12911 comments Porter Amy is getting off the train! Graduation is here at disembarcation! I have finished and Reviewed my second Wicked 11 book, at space 95.

I have just finished and reviewed the Sleepwalker, which was on Book Concierge's Porter Board at #44. I have read 38 books for this challenge, 20 as a clerk, and 18 as a Porter. 12 participation points, 6 used.

Anita - lets have a roll. If it is a 6, I am off the board.

Nancy, with your gift of two spaces and two dice roll offer, if its not a 6 from Anita, lets roll them if needed and see that the registrar has my graduation all legit and in tip top shaper. I also have extra credits in the form of 6 extra participation points, so one way or another, I am getting off the train. Gnarly and everyone, see you at the Race Track. Sparkle and I are taking a vacation ride, and if anyone wondered, of course we are heading to Aspen. We leave on Friday. She is getting her wings cleaned, and her mane shampooed and conditioned. She is ready to go. She heard a rumor that a Pegasus is potentially coming to the track. She is preening and getting ready to consider her options. I look at library books, she looks in the mirror and at other race teams. We are both heading into 2024!

We'll see! I didn't get her yet. My immediate problem is keeping myself from falling off. I'm having enough problems with the male without worrying about how he will react when sweet Sparkle turns his head. I'm not sure if having a filly will be easier. You can apparently handle a randy animal. I'm not sure I'm in your class Amy. (It might be like when I was teaching my teenage son to drive and he got distracted by a pretty girl walking by.)

Wing-woman. I like that.

Several of my books should have matched the tags but didn't have enough readers. But I did have 2 -

True Biz - 2/10 - Thought Provoking 9 tags
The Bingo Palace - 5/4 Indigenous 21 tags

Surprisingly, I didn't read any Literary Fiction in that month, though I read them all the time. At least none with enough tags.
