Me too. I'm really loving how it dovetails into the Pick-A-Shelf By The Month challenge. I"m getting a ton of books off my TBR shelves this way!

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1730 comments I found a book with Wings on the cover. The Edge of the World by Martha Wells. It took me a few minutes on a larger screen to realize the cover was of a man with wings.
I have passed by it so many times without noticing. :D

Yeah, that sounds like a problem. I've been known to go to the library shelves and just find a book that I can USE if the book I WANT isn't available. I've actually found some really good reads using this method.

The use your reserve book for a different task when it comes in?

I am doing a similar thing. I did an online search for x in title of my library's catalogue and found something that will work. Hopefully it will be available when I go in later today.

Marie | 1060 comments I've done so badly in February :( I started The Two Lives of Sara on 30th January and that's the only book I've finished. I've been trudging through You for most of the month, there's a theoretical possibility I could finish today but I think it's unlikely!

The library holds for my March books are due soon, so I might just have to go back and do February later. Not exactly reading in order, hopefully that'll get straightened out eventually.

It's the thought that counts, right? LOL

I've got what I hope to be my March line up - not that I will GET all of them done, but I figure that if I don't plan it, I can't DO it.

message 116: by Jillian (last edited Mar 01, 2024 04:04PM) (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments 8. A book by an author from Canada, Australia or New Zealand-
Duel at Araluen by John Flanagan 2/20/2024

I'm enjoying this series.

9. A book with fewer than 2024 ratings on Goodreads- (1,298 Ratings)

Peanut Butter Panic by Amanda Flower 2/29/2024

Even though I like this series, the main character really annoyed me in this book.

Up next:

I'm not a huge historical fiction person, so I'm going the history route. I love micro-histories, and I'm trying to read books I already own so Cod seemed like the perfect next book. Followed by one of my favorite authors and finally a series I have been looking forward to starting.

10. A history or historical fiction book-
Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World by Mark Kurlansky

11. A book with an X connection (generation X author)-
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson

12. A book that has been on your TBR for over a year-
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

message 117: by Bea (last edited Mar 12, 2024 03:10AM) (new)

Bea | 430 comments Working on next week's read (#12). I have chosen to read The Invitation. It is a book that I have owned for quite a while and tried to read once before. Doing much better with it this time. Guess I just wasn't in the life space I needed to get into it.

I am trying to get ahead but, due to the many challenges that I am in, it doesn't look like I will achieve my goal of reading through May before I leave mid-April. Oh, well. Catch up time on my return.

message 119: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 259 comments I finished:

17. A book involving intelligence Defy the Stars
18. A book with a botanical cover The Belles
19. A book connected in some way to any of the flavors of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream The Daughter of Doctor Moreau

I also read Legends & Lattes, Fourth Wing, and Princess Floralinda and the Forty-Flight Tower because I was going to slot them into later categories but in the spirit of reading in order, I will just keep those as backups if I need them at the end!

Next up:
20. A book with a single word title Omens
21. A book with a title containing 6+ words The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch
22. A book by an author from an African country Behold the Dreamers

Jillian | 2875 comments I'm doing good right now finishing books in their correct weeks. I'm really enjoying reading in order this year.

Finished:
12. A book that has been on your TBR for over a year-
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty 3/22/2024

I enjoyed the first book of the series and am looking forward to read what happens next.

13. A book that is on a Five Books List; reader’s choice of which list-(The Best Audiobooks: the 2022 Audie Awards, recommended by Michele Cobb)
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir 3/30/2024

Overall, I liked the book, but it really was too long. If you liked The Martian, you would like this book; they are very similar.

14. A book with a main character who is Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color-
Symphony of Secrets by Brendan Slocumb 4/5/2024

I really enjoy Slocumb's books. I stayed up way too late finishing it this morning 1am.

Currently reading:
15. A book whose author’s name includes one of the 4 least used letters in the alphabet (JQZX)-
The Dark Forest by Liu Cixin

Planned:
16. A book related to the phrase "It's Raining Cats and Dogs"-
Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome

17. A book involving intelligence-
Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness by Peter Godfrey-Smith

18. A book with a botanical cover-
The Darling Dahlias And The Voodoo Lily by Susan Wittig Albert

Have fun in Scotland Bea - I will be there in July, after a visit to my son and daughter-in-law in Canada and then some hiking in Cornwall before more hiking in Shetland and Orkney, then home to Australia. I have some Kindle books lined up, but much prefer real books so am not sure how I'll manage!

Jillian | 2875 comments I hope everyone's April reading has been better than mine. It took me forever to finish The Dark Forest. I'm pretty burnt out on sci-fi but I'm starting System Collapse today since I just don't have the focus or time to read my planned print book right now. I'm hoping to get caught back up, but I have a few long books planned so we shall see.

Finished:
15. A book whose author’s name includes one of the 4 least used letters in the alphabet (JQZX)-
The Dark Forest by Liu Cixin 4/20/24

There were parts that I really enjoyed and then there were parts that were so tedious.

16. A book related to the phrase "It's Raining Cats and Dogs"-
Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome 4/28/2024

I started out with the print version, but switched to the audio. It is British humor, and I would have enjoyed to book more if I was in a read a funny book mood.

Currently reading:
17. A book involving intelligence-
System Collapse by Martha Wells

18. A book with a botanical cover-
Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris

Planned reads:
19. A book connected in some way to any of the flavors of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream- (Gimme S’more!™) reading the next book in a series-
The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty

20. A book with a single word title-
Homecoming by Kate Morton

21. A book with a title containing 6+ words-
Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor
or
Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon

22. A book by an author from an African country-

♞ Pat Gent | 402 comments I got a lot of reading done in April, got through everything I wanted to and had time to read a few "off prompt" books for other challenge tasks, so that was fun.

I'm going to try to focus more on this challenge for May, and I think I'm lined up pretty well. I'm still on track to Read In Order, but it does get sticky from time to time.
