Q: Do you want us to make a post like we did for Spider's Web or can we just use the spreadsheet only?
A: SS only, please! The thread is for questions, bonus announcements, etc.
Q: Do I have to complete one section before moving to the next or can all sections be worked at the same time?
A: You can move through the challenge at whatever pace and in whatever order you want! The only time there is a restriction is for the Bonus tasks (these will have clear start and completion requirements).
Q: On the spell out - For book titles starting with an article (A/An/The), can the article be ignored or used?
A: Yes, use or ignore articles.
Q: Can we use MPG and tags interchangeably?
A: Yes, with discretion. Please try to follow the heart of the task - but if you can't find a book that works for the MPG, you may use a book with a reasonable amount of tags (not just one!).

Q: For those of us who primarily read mm romance, is there a little leeway in the tasks? Prince vs Princess, Mermaid vs Merman, Blue Dress vs Blue Suit, etc.
A: I'll accept some variation - clothing used interchangeably is ok. For tasks that request a specific gendered characterization - because it's specific to the characters of the movies themselves, I will not allow variation. (ie The Lion King task "Read a book with "King" in the title". I wouldn't accept Queen.) That being said, my guess is that you will most likely be able to find a "Princess tag" that is MM, especially if it's just a royalty-based book. If you get down to the wire with the challenge and just can't find something, let me know and we can negotiate.
Q: Just double checking that we're allowed to use the main subject or author as a "character" in a non-fiction book (providing they are in the book, of course! lol) again this year?
A: Yes!
Q: How can I find tags?

Q: May we move books around? I imagine this wouldn't be an issue until well into the year, but if we were to need to move a book to a different task OR to swap out a book for better page points, may we?
A: Yes, you are free to move things! They only restriction would be for the Bonus Monthly Tasks - those can only be moved if the read dates are within the requirements.
Q: What books have characters that have a sleeping disorder? What counts as a sleeping disorder?

I looked at the upcoming HOB Buddy Reads for 2024 and I think all except 2 of them are less than 300 pages - BOO! and most of the titles do not appeal to me so I probably won't be participating in most of them.
Can't wait to get started. I've postponing my larger books for 2024😁

Doing some pre-planning, looks great and am very excited :)What variations would you accept for tags of "ARABIC"?
When I looked at the tag only books in Arabic are coming up, including foreign named lists, so having trouble with that one. Not sure what else is similar to the word for tags

If you are uninterested or cannot find a "retelling", I am allowing lots of creativity for this task - honestly - 12 is A LOT!
Instead, try to use a book that makes sense. For example, a Cinderella retelling could be a book about a maid or the MC has to be found after running away -OR- the title of the book could be the lyrics from a song in the movie! I will allow very vague justification.... if you can talk me into it, I'll allow it.

I've been so busy with my 2023 list that I'm just now getting to this. I'm in!
to be fair, I have read versions aimed at younger readers, but I've only had this 'adult' copy a couple of years, lol.
Also, thanks on the leeway for retellings. It'll certainly make life easier, lol.

You may be able to borrow them free if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. I hope this helps.

I'll accept all of those you listed except the Princess tag , because it's specific to the characters of the movies themselves. The same non-exception would go for The Lion King task "Read a book with "King" in the title". I wouldn't accept Queen.

for the Read a book tagged "POLYNESIAN", can be tagged as polynesia or french polynesia
Any way we can do a "tag" of Folklore instead of MPG Folklore? I have looked at the genre shelves and listopia (there aren't many), but almost all books in the tag and listopia do not have MPG of folklore. There are some rarity nonfictions in there likely I have no interest to read, but this is a pretty hard MPG. People usually use Fairy Tales or Mythology more I think, so MPG is a tough for this one. I'm surprised I'm not finding more options as an MPG but unfortunately....

✨Each book can be used TWICE to complete the challenge if desired, but you can also complete the challenge without repeating the books. There are bonus points for not duplicating your books.
✨Follow your own time zone. If you finish the book between the challenge dates in your time zone, it counts.
Spell Out Rules:
Articles (A/An/The) can be used or ignored.
✨Use the FIRST letter of the FIRST word in the Title of the Book or Series.
✨Use the FIRST letter in the Author's first or last name.
✨Use the FIRST letter in the MAIN CHARACTER's first or last name. (NO minor characters)
Task Rules:
You must be able to justify how your book fits the prompt. Creativity is encouraged, but please hold to the task/prompt.
✨Cover Color must be more than 50% (https://labs.tineye.com/color/)
✨List page number, percentage, or chapter for word in text
✨MPG is "Main Page Genre", and is what is shown on the front of the GR book page
✨To justify a Cover Item, make sure you link the edition you read
✨Short explanation for other tasks for proof of task completion
✨A note on "retellings"... While I'd LOVE if everyone embraced this task, I also realize that 12 retellings could be, well... A LOT. If you are uninterested or cannot find a "retelling", I am allowing lots of creativity for this task. Instead, try to use a book that makes sense. 100-300pgs = 1pt
301-500pgs = 3pts
501-700pgs = 5pts

Bonuses:
✨Buddy Read Bonus
🪄HOB Formal Buddy Reads: If you match a task to an HOB Formal Buddy Read book, read and participate (at least 3 meaningful comments) in one of HOB's Formal Buddy Read discussions, you will get 2 bonus points.
🪄 Informal Buddy Reads: If you sign up with a buddy and read and participate (at least 3 meaningful comments), you will get 2 bonus points. Your buddy does not have to be participating or using their book in this challenge, you just need to have meaningful dialog with them!
✨Monthly Bonus Tasks: At the start of each month, I will release a Bonus Task worth PAGE POINTS. In order to count page points for this task, you MUST complete the task during the allocated time period!
✨No Duplication Bonuses: If you don't duplicate a book in a Movie Set, you'll receive 5 points (per set). If you don't duplicate a book in the entire challenge, you'll receive an additional 20 points. (Total Possible Points: 80)
✨Be on the lookout for more Bonus Point Opportunities! These will be posted in the thread and added to your spreadsheets as they are revealed!
