2024: (Impossible) Disney Challenge
For the buddy read bonus, can I read formal buddy read picks from the previous year? At least, the ones whose threads are still open?
Hmmm... No, as you need to participate in a discussion and since the Buddy Read is no longer active, there is no discussion to be had.
However, if you would like to find a partner to read and discuss the book with, and you both comment and discuss, I'll allow it. For this option, you can start a new BR by requesting a new thread or using the Formal BR thread if it's still open.

Got it. Thanks!
I don't recommend
as either a long-haired MC or Rapunzel retelling. Anyone have a time machine so I can go back and get those 3 hours of my life back? 😂

Oh no! And it's rated 4.15 stars! WOW

I'm about to start The Beekeeper's Apprentice for long hair MC - I've been told (through numerous google and reddit searches) that she has long long hair... crossing fingers

It's an excellent book, Ashley . And Mary does have long hair - it's mentioned several times.
My question, though, is how long does the hair have to be to be very long? That's where I'm running into trouble. Mid back? Down to the derriere? Is the mention that someone has long hair sufficient?
What other books are people reading for the bonus? I'm not going to read Sammy's book, lol, but I reread The Beekeeper's Apprentice last year, so that's out....

Use your discretion - but if the hair is long enough to be mention at least a few times, I say you're good. I'm not sure how detailed every book will be, but if the author describes hair down beyond mid-back, I'll give you an automatic yes.

I peeked at a digital copy of the book. It explicitly mentions that her hair reaches below the waist.
I'm probably going to use your book for my bonus task too haha.

I might do that, Ashley. I've been thinking that it was time for a reread of the series, so that would probably work - and I'm pretty certain Mary keeps her long hair!
For the MM readers in the group, it looks as though the first and third of Jet Mykles' Heaven Sent: Extended Remix Series would qualify based on the covers alone.

Thanks. I'm gonna take a look and possibly use these.

I haven't picked a book yet for the bonus but i'm thinking of Beyond the Tower (The Journey Series or Spindle maybe Golden Curse if I can get my hands on it.

If you end up reading one of these, I'll happily Buddy Read with you for the points!

I read that a few months ago (and the next in the series) and enjoyed it!
I'm reading Bitter Greens for this month's challenge pick - it is a Rapunzel retelling. It won some awards for historical fiction, which I thought was encouraging. I'm about 40% through and it definitely meets criteria for very long hair! And I'm enjoying it.

I'm in. Probably won't be able to start until Monday evening. Does that work or I can really do anytime after Monday. Do you know where we go to setup the Buddy Read? I think I'll like Heaven.

Any other MM Readers want to do buddy reads, let me know. I'd love to be able to chat about books. :)

There are two forthcoming MM Buddy Reads:
The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen - thread here
Foxed - thread here

I might be interested in Foxed. Do you know when you plan to read that?

We haven't set an exact timeframe for that one - I know Christina said she could start in a few days, and I'm pretty flexible. Happily, we don't all need to read on exactly the same schedule, so I'd say join in whenever.
I am bound and determined to participate in more Buddy Reads this year....

I'd like to do more too, so feel free to message me if you start one you think I might like.
Thanks!

Will do!
Ashley - For a 'retelling' of Pocahontas, would you consider a nonfiction work about the historical person - specifically, Pocahontas and the English Boys: Caught Between Cultures in Early Virginia?
Thanks.

For the sleeping disorder task, does it have to be narcolepsy or can it be another such as insomnia?
Anastasia wrote: "For the sleeping disorder task, does it have to be narcolepsy or can it be another such as insomnia?"Thank you for asking - I was wondering the same thing.
No, any sleep disorder is fine (I just used Narcolepsy as an example!). Insomnia would definitely count!

I'm going to check out the Beekeeper book for long hair but does anyone have a recommendation for a short character. I'm trying something different and trying to do all a character a month. I'm making my way through Snow White but that short character is an issue.
What about a children's book? Anne of Green Gables? The Mysterious Benedict Society? Harriet the Spy? About any kid's book should have a short character.
The Princess and the Goblin is a classic children’s book. It’s old-fashioned so some people may not like it. But there’s a character with very long hair, described near the beginning of the book. I think that there are some short characters too, but check this in case I’m wrong. There are dwarves in The Hobbit.
Yes, dwarves are an obvious route!I happened to find a character that was 5ft as I was reading Humboldt's Gift. I think 5ft is pretty short 😁
I could have sworn this had been asked already, but I can't find it...For find-in-text, can we use "Narcissistic" instead of "narcissist"?
