TerryJane | 4026 comments Hello! Thanks so much to Gwen and Carmen for offering to lead us. I'm TerryJane in Georgia, and I look forward to reading with you all!

I hope it's okay if I start adding some books to our spreadsheet. New this time, it seems a book has the most point value as part of a triple. Hmm...

If you leaders want the top spots to set up for the team, I can delete my post. No worries.

Carmen | 8125 comments Hola!
I'm Carmen from Spain and I'm eager to start this readathon with you all.
Feel free to add books or share whatever idea you have, we are a team and each member is welcome to do their bit.
As TerryJane very well points out, we might as well focus first on looking for books for the triples or doubles.
I'm going to look for books right now 🏃‍♀️.
Any ideas for a team name?

Stacy | 28 comments Hello!
I'm going to try for the triple category with three books featuring the title of a family member in the title. the three I've picked out are: The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis, The Zookeepers Wife by Diane Ackerman and Her Mother's Hope by Francine Rivers.
I will try to get them on the spreadsheet when I'm home this evening.

message 9: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 4026 comments When we fill in the spreadsheet, how should we mark our possible fits -- X or [title]? I tried each way on my first two planned books, just to see how it looks. Also, for a triple, say, should we mark our one title on all three lines of "same prompt" that it fits? Or just once? That is, mark all three lines of family sage, or just one?

If nobody has the answer, I guess we could check back on the World Mysteries Readathon, and see how teams managed that situation.

I think the X is enough

TerryJane wrote: "Also, for a triple, say, should we mark our one title on all three lines of "same prompt" that it fits? Or just once?"

On the World Mysteries Readathon, we only marked one line per book in doubles and triples.

It would be fabulous to try to mark all the categories each book fits in.

For the doubles and triples, does it have to be read by the same person or can we split it up? i.e. if I read a book with a character of unknown heritage, would Carmen then be able to read the second one?

On the World Mysteries Readathon, we only marked one line per book in doubles and triples.

I checked your books and marked only once in each category.
I'm trying to even out the marks for doubles and triples, that is if I have 2 books for a double prompt I mark one book in the first cell for the prompt and the other book in the second cell, I hope I made myself clear 😊

message 26: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 4026 comments I just saw in Readathon Central that the "Read 2 books about families living in foreign countries" prompt refers to countries foreign to that family.

I assume this would include immigrant or refugee stories, or maybe where a family moves for a job or military service or something. I marked The Last Anniversary for this one since Australia is a foreign country to me, but I will adjust it on the spreadsheet.

message 27: by Carmen (last edited Sep 12, 2023 07:34AM) (new)

Carmen | 8125 comments Hi, sixters!
I asked bailey if we coud read books that don't fit any prompt or that fit but the prompt is already fulfilled, like in the Rainbow Readathon, and the answer is YES. The spreadsheets will be updated to that end.
Obviously, in these cases only the pages points count.

PS: DNF's also count.

I included in post #7 a link for this prompt to immigrants shelf, I'm going to add one to expats shelf too.

The Wives involves polygamy. We could use it to start that triple, and choose a different nontraditional family book.

Yes, there's a fine line between some categories, not just these ones, but others like orphan / adopted/ foster care.
Besides, like I said, this is only an aproximation to what we have but many variations are possible still, for example I put my book "Dry Season" for the "adopted" triple because we haven't any other to fulfill this task (and we're 1 short still), but I think it suits best in the "dual POV" duo. I tried to fulfill the most profitable task possible with the books we have so far.
When we have all the books we'll see the combinations we can make.
We still need a lot of books 😅

TerryJane | 4026 comments Sometimes we won't know until we actually read, which prompts they might fulfill. The Last Anniversary sounds like it might possibly have an adoption story, but I won't know until I get there. Hmm...

Carmen | 8125 comments You' right, some books seem to fit in a lot of categories, but others..., based only on the synopsis, it's hard to tell

Deidre Long | 107 comments Hi, everyone!
If we need a book about best friends The Little Wartime Library will fit for that. I believe I have said I will read 4 books

Carmen | 8125 comments Hola Deidre, welcome!
How are you doing?
We'd like to know what books you plan to read, and it would be a good idea that you'd have your tracking post to keep things easy for everyone to check your progress.
We have to choose a name for the team, and Pointer Sixters seems to be the winning so far, what do you think? Do you have any suggestions?

In fact we need two for that task.
Choose the books you prefer and then we'll try to accomodate them wherever it's more convenient for the team missions, but maybe it'd be helpful if your choices fulfill some of the prompts where we have less options 😉

Deidre Long | 107 comments I like the name for the group

Books0/4
Pages 320

1. The Little Wartime Library- Best Friends
2. The Murmur of Bees- Adoption
3. I Have Some Questions for You- Not sure where that will fit
4. Undecided

I will update this when I decide on my 4th book.

Carmen | 8125 comments Thank you, Deidre.
If the book you want to read is: I Have Some Questions for You, I think it can fit "a book featuring a group or club" if we understand a school as a group of people, and then it seems that the protagonist is a kind of "outsider".
We have 2 days left to do the final matchings, so there's still time 😉

Carmen | 8125 comments Hola Sixters! 🙋🏽‍♀️

🔹I've just sent a PM to Gwen, I think she's the only one that didn't check in.
Let's hope nothing serious is delaying her 🤞

🔹If everybody is ok with "Pointer Sixters" as our team name, tomorrow I'll report it to bailey.

🔹Cordelia, Stacy and Gwen: please, post a message to check your progress so I can follow them up easier on post #7.

Thanks 🤗

Carmen | 8125 comments I just realized right now that "End of the chapter" is a trilogy (I knew it but I didn't give it a thought 😑), it should count as 3 books, right? (For the Family Saga prompt)
Or, although I have a single volume, I have to detach the different books that make up the trilogy... a tricky question 🤔
I better ask it at the Central.

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Carmen, the Forsythe Chronicles are made up of 3 trilogies, so yes it should count as three books, even though you're reading the bind-up, since all the books can be bought individually.

You'll just need to list each one in the spreadsheet (Maid in Waiting, Flowering Wilderness, and One More River)

Carmen | 8125 comments Thanks Lisa, I thought so but it's better to be sure 😉
Anyway, I'll wait to see what bailey answers.

Hello Shari 👋
Great!
If you don't mind adding them to the spreadsheet, it would be perfect. Remember to check all the prompts that they fit in, just in case we have to make some final adjustments.
Thanks!

TerryJane | 4026 comments In the interest of full disclosure, I have the potential for complications during this readathon. I listed 12 possibilities in my list and on the planning tab, but I only committed to 7 during sign-up. I usually read more than planned, but I don't know if I'll be able to this time.

My daughter is 38 weeks pregnant with our first grandchild and wants me to attend the birth for support. If baby comes during the readathon, it's going to put the kibosh on my reading for a day or so. If he stays put until the 25th or later, I will likely read extra books during our 10-day event. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That said, do you have preferences for which 7 books I should prioritize as first reads? All are loaded to my phone and ready for listening.

TerryJane | 4026 comments Carmen wrote: "I just realized right now that "End of the chapter" is a trilogy..."

===

The Forsyte Chronicles includes 9 novels and several interludes. It is divided into three trilogies:
1. The Forsyte Saga (The Man of Property, In Chancery and To Let)
2. A Modern Comedy (The White Monkey, The Silver Spoon and Swan Song)
3. End of the Chapter (Maid in Waiting, Flowering Wilderness and One More River)

===

All three (books 7, 8, and 9) are more than 100 pages. I think they would definitely fill the family saga triple.

First of all, congratulations granny! 🍼👶
Don't worry about the readathon, first things first, and family definitely comes first.
If you aren't able to read as much books as you usually do, doesn't mean a thing. The important thing is to have a great time and enjoy your reads, if we don't fulfill more task we fulfill less, so what? We have a good time at it and that's what really matters.
Tomorrow, last day for planning, I hope, more or less, we'll have the final list, so if the baby comes sooner it has to be your priority, and you'll read what you can and everybody should understand it.
