Sorry to make you dig! It's a bit of a deep cut.
The main character is Aloysius Pendergast. To fulfill the task requirement, I'm not referring to his current tenure in the FBI referenced in this book's description (since that's a civilian agency), but to his past. I can't link to the character's wikipedia page, but from the second paragraph of the background section:
Pendergast once served with the elite "Ghost Company", a spiritual successor to the "Blue Light" detachment (now Delta Force) of the United States Army Special Forces (SF), a special operations force of the United States Army colloquially known as the "Green Berets"
