Ahhhh, mediocrity at it's finest. So the main character is a writer of biographies...except he's only written one and he is struggling to finish his second book. So he's broke right? And his daughter is this spoiled brat who can't handle being taken out of her private school. So basically, loser dad takes a huge loan from some random rich father at the school and....bad idea.

He gets involved with a Mexican drug cartel, supposedly as a CI for the DEA but then there is this big twist, which isn't a twist so much because I didn't care and barely paid attention. And the experience somehow helps him write his book. Yay.

3.5 stars.
I liked this one better than book 1. Lord Nicholas St. John was asked by his friend to find his sister Juliana. Nicholas' journey takes him Lady Isabel Townsend who was running the House of Minerva. Isabel's father was a wastrel who gambled away his family's money and often put up his daughter for his bets.

Isabel has learned to care for her family's home and her twelve year old brother who inherited the earldom upon her father's death. When Nick arrives at Isabel's, there was an attraction they couldn't overlook. Could Isabel have found someone who understood her and would help her?

I liked Nick and Isabel together as their relationship progressed at a good pace. Isabel had a good heart and she sacrificed a lot. I am glad that Nick saw her for her big heart and didn't expect her to be like the other women in the ton. It wasn't a smooth journey but I enjoyed it and will continue with this series.

Review: I liked this book overall but it dragged, a lot until the very end. Maybe I'm not young enough to "feel" the teenage angst but there was a lot of it. I felt like there was more angst than plot. I'm just blah about it right now, even with the ending I'm still kind of like eh. Another cliff-hanger, okay...sigh....

My Cowboy Homecoming (The Cowboys, Book 3)

Rating & Review: ★★★. Calvin Tripplehorn “Trip” just returned to his home in New Mexico from his Tour of Service in Afghanistan and things at home are still a mess. His father is in prison for arson, his brother just died as a result of a car accident and his mother is barely holding herself together.
Tripp wants nothing to do with his abusive bully of a father, but his mother isn’t ready to give up on her husband. With the bills mounting, Tripp is forced to get employment at a local ranch, where the family affected by his father’s arson also work. It was both stressful and a bit hopeful as Tripp hopes to show his former crush Lucho that Tripp is not like his father at all.
At first everyone in town viewed him as a Tripplehorn, but Tripp worked hard to show everyone that he wasn’t a bigot and a bully. Lucho didn’t make it easy because they blamed the Tripplehorn family for the death of their beloved grandfather. Tripp was consistent and hard working. He eventually earned Lucho’s admiration and they began seeing each other.
Then the past came knocking. Tripp gets an opportunity to address some issues he ran away from and this time he took a stand. The only thing that would have made this better for me was for his mother to grow a backbone. The resolution was much cleaner than I was expecting but I was satisfied. The writing style was similar to other ZAM books though the St. Nachos felt more fulfilling to me. Tripp and Lucho were good together and I am happy they got their HEA.

Review:

Ahhhh this book was really good! I read the first 3 and was kind of over the series but someone in another challenge read the latest one and liked it...so I figured I should give it another try, and I'm really glad I did. Tana French takes a minor character from the previous book and makes them the main character in the next. I honestly don't even remember the last one, but I really liked this detective. It kind of sucks that the next book doesn't feature him but what can ya do.

This was one of those thrillers that had me hooked because I really needed to find out what happened! There were just so many things going on. The main character had a backstory, which played into the main event. This tends to annoy me in a lot of books, because it is usually so sappy, but this one did it well. I would definitely recommend this one!!

I thought this book was pretty lame. The writing got on my nerves. The dialogue between characters was so odd that I had to look up the author, thinking she was from a different country...but no, she is right here in central VA like me. I gave 2 stars because I was slightly intrigued by the plot. However, the ending was ridiculous and made no sense! But at least I got a Y title :)

Dex and Perry's last EIT webshow was kind of a hit, so now they are off to another adventure on an island that is a camp for Chinese lepers.

I don't know part of that seemed like a good idea to Declan, but off they go to find ghosts. Well they find spooky stuff alright, say some mean things to each other, but then confess to needing each other.

At the end of the adventure, Dex goes back to the not-so-pregnant girlfriend Jenn and Perry goes home. So I am left hanging again :(

Review:
Historical fiction is not one of my preferred genres but this was mystery mixed with romance and it was surprisingly good. Annie is a strong MC who knows a lot about the financial world of the time, but, as this is not appreciated, she has to give her advice disguised as a fortune-teller. When one of her clients dies she gets involved in finding his killer.
I was sure I had guessed the killer about midway in the book but I was way wrong and I really like it when that happens.
