R6: SSS Six Pence for a Book (6)

Read: The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson
Date: 5/20/2015
Rating: *****
Review: I think Lisbeth Salander is one of my favorite heroines of all time. She's so different from anything I've read before that I'm just fascinated with her. I'm really sad that this is the last book, I heard rumors that there was a fourth book a couple of years ago but it was wrapped up in a court case in Sweden and it was complicated. Now I need to go find the movie from the first book and watch it, along with all the other movies of the books I've read this past year...

I'm almost glad that this challenge forced me to go find a book set in Oregon, and I defaulted by reading the second book in this series. I didn't really love the first book. I didn't really love this one either, but I thought it was better. I love Alafair Burke's other series, featuring Ellie Hatcher and have read all of the books. This one is about DA Samantha Kincaid, and it's just not as interesting. It's written in first person, which is kind of irritating. I think that the draw of these novels is the expertise on the legal process. It's easy to tell that Burke is a lawyer and knows her stuff. She leaves a lot to be desired as far as character development but the plot was intriguing and flowed well. I actually found myself enjoying this one, which is great, because I had to stay up all night reading it.

Book: The Bold and the Dominant (The Doms of her Life, Book 3)
Read: 5/21
Rating & Review: ★★★
I'm torn. I don't know if I enjoyed this story but I was intrigued enough to listen to the whole audiobook. I didn't really like the heroine most of the time but I admired her perseverance. When we got the whole story about her background, it made a difference in how I perceived her behavior. I would have liked her if I had known the revelations from the beginning. I liked Liam but I couldn't understand how he ended up with his ex wife.mit didn't make sense. Hammer/Marcus was straight forward. I just didn't like this trio together. I hope Seth gets his own book soon.

Review: So far I'm liking this Vamp Urban Fantasy series! The characters are cute and the story was decent and not too serious. Will definately continue and read the next one.

Review:
I liked the magic part of this book. That doing magic is a lot of hard work and repetition upon repetition. What I didn't like is that it seemed that drinking excessively and doing drugs is not a huge problem and the main character is more or less unhappy about his life the whole way through. Also it got on my nerves all the mentioning of other books and films. To mention some: Of course Harry Potter but also Karate Kid, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I have not quite decided if I will continue this series.

Book: Let Love Live (Love, Book 5)

I'm torn about this one. I liked the first half much better than the second half. It was more angst filled and painful. It was still enjoyable and I liked Dylan with Conner.

I think book 5 was definitely a strong finish for this series. Patricia Highsmith created such a strange world with strange characters, all revolving around this one psychopath with surprisingly likeable attributes. I really enjoyed reading this series.

Loved it! Now that I have re-read most of the series, besides 7 and 8, which I don't remember being up to par, I finally got to read the latest installment and it was no disappointment. These books are never ordinary, and I have learned to expect the wild and crazy scenarios and enjoy them. The only series I have read that is as good as this one is the D.D. Warren series by Lisa Gardner. I wish I could find another that I enjoy as much! Can't wait for #10 to come out!

A retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It is darker than the original and has some violence. I love Fairy Tales and especially remember reading them constantly when on holiday with my grandparents. This was an okay retelling but I still like the original a lot more.

I'm all caught up on the series. Yay! Grace was Iris's girlfriend and Troy was Iris' ex boyfriend.
It's was of a rebound that gets things going for these two but it quickly blossoms for the flower shop owner and the High School counselor.
We got to catch up with RayAnne & Al, Scott & Peyton and Rawley & Carrie. This book was just like rest of them.

Review:
A nice love story. Lian and Allison has known each other always, but sad family events kept them apart. Now Allison is back and they start seeing each other. There are no surprises in this book, even the bad things that happen we know from the beginning who it is and why he is doing it.

Review:
It has been a long time since I have read a book in this series. While I love Laura Lippman's standalone novels, the series just doesn't cut it for me. I can't decide whether I find Tess irritating or endearing...or whether the series is dark or funny. Sometimes neither. That being said, I liked this one more than some of the others. It was a decent mystery, although I certainly wouldn't call it a 'thriller.' Lippman is such an awesome crime writer, but sometimes I wish she'd drop some of her attempts at digging into this rather boring protagonist, and focus on the story.
WEEK 11: Spot: 83

Book: Midnight's Kiss (Elder Races series Book 8)
Read: 5/30
Rating & Review: ★★★★.
I must admit that I read this series for the dragons and don't care for the other supernaturals in the Demesne. But the last book as well as this one proved interesting enough.
This one began right where the last ended, with Vampire King Julian (King of the Nightkind) trying to prevent Justine's assassination attempts. While hunting Justine, Julian's former lady love Melisande was kidnapped by Justine to stay Julian's hand.
Melly is the light fae princess and now she must use her wiles to escape Justine. When Julian comes to rescue Melly, they are forced to work together. The problem is they have communication issues after all, that's why they broke up.
But this unfortunate abduction give them a chance to work together and address the unfinished business that has been lingering between them.
The audio was the same narrator Sophia Eastlake and she was on point as usual. She kept the story interesting and I ended up enjoying this one as much as book 7.
