Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo! Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Hi team! Also checking in :) Has everyone here played before? This is my first time...not panicking at all. lol
As Elle is new to Bingo, would either of you "experienced ladies" like to be captain? LOLAnd don't forget you need a team name :)
Hi Elle - I hope you love this challenge!Names: Reading 4ever? Ha I'm not great at thinking of names :)
Captaining: I can if I have to, but I'm feeling a bit swamped with trying to get my Uno team closed out and set up my Tower Teams team. If I do captain, someone else would have to announce the call in a couple of weeks, as I won't have internet the second week of May :)
It's wonderful we get to start today!
Shelf #1 ~27 April: DetectiveDIRECT LINK(s) ~ a character who is a detective or police officer; series or title contains “Detective” -or- Paranormal Detective/Detectives
Suzanne, there are 2 links, not one. Detective & Detectives. There are some different books on the different links, just so you know.
Sorry ladies! I’m not AWOL. Completely slipped my mind to check out our team comments. I need to update my feed alerts. Sorry. If you need me to Captain I can. I would need an assist the first week of June and if this carries into the first week of July. Otherwise I’m good.
I’ve been bingoing since round #3ish. So this might be my 19th or 20th round. Love Bingo!! 4 is fun to play with.

Just let me know if guys like to be a chatty group or a leave me alone and let me read group… :)
Lis that is wonderful if you can captain - thank you! I'll definitely be able to help whenever you need.I personally prefer chatty because it's fun getting to know teammates. But I can certainly be quiet if I need to :)
I'm so glad both of you have team naming talent! I think my two favorites are 4ever Reading and LitWit, but I'm happy to go with whatever!
Omg! You have more books than I do. Lol! You go girl!! Sent you a friend request ;)My goal is to not buy any books for this round.
It looks like we are book-related! Using ones on your to-read is a great goal :) I am so behind. I DO want to read all the books, but I guess having too many is such a great problem to have.
Suzanne wrote: "It looks like we are book-related! "I have a long work commute and a teenager in sports so I listen to most of my books now. So that limits the options a bit. This shelf seems so Harry Dresdenish. At least I’d have James Marsters (aka Buffy’s Spike) chatting in my ear using his Harry British accent.
Wish I had an “In Death” series book to read.
If I am tight on time, I will use Devil’s Delight - I need to start it today, and the main character is a detective (she owns a detective agency). It's missing the "spirit of paranormal" challenge part though. I also have The Paradox Hotel which has the main character as a detective. Or the In Death series is a good idea!
Sandra wrote: "Lis, I've put you on the list for captain, for Steph to do when she can."Thank you!! You are on it!! :)
Hi all!!! I want to make sure I'm doing this right. Pick a prompt, something off the shelf that matches and call it here so we aren't all reading for the same spot?Am I close?
And can I friend you all? This is my new reading account lol.
I'll send you a friend invite right now - would love that! You are close! We each have to read for one of the "shelf 1" prompts - either on one of the lists or the "character is a detective", etc. We could all be the same or different.
Then once all of us are done our bingo card gets stamped with "detective". And we then continue with next week's prompt.
Oh and there is a free space - which we can read a book for at any point now that the challenge has started. In Message 2 there are some free space rules about finding a book for that - I need to look there and find my free space book too.
Depending on what Lis prefers we can either post what we are planning on reading or not. I sometimes like to post plans just because I have other eyes checking to make sure I didn't miss something!
Yes definitely. Everyone on our team must find a “paranormal-detective or detectives book following the shelf criteria. Post your book here to document it and don’t be afraid to switch books if is just not interesting to continue.
Then we all read and post our reviews & we get our stamp. It’s also a good time to get your Free Space book out of the way early. Speed reading happens towards the end if you’re racing with another team to get bingo first. At the beginning you have time and no pressure to read and post your review. Just make sure it’s on the shelf and over 200 pages long. It’s nice to get your book read before the next shelf is called but not necessary. You just don’t want to read 2-3 books in the same week if you’re close to bingo.
Oooooh, ok, that makes sense. And it needs to be a title already on the shelves from the link posted above yes?
Also when you post the book you intend to read, the bingo ninjas (usually Sandra ;) will let you know if it doesn’t fit. Any questions you have and we don’t know you can always as the bingo hive in the discussion thread.
Exactly. What’s nice is when you get your personal bookshelf list of wishlist or to read books, you can see that in the list when searching.
For example, under detective they have some of Kim Harrison's books but I didn't see American Demon which is on my tbr anyway...so does that mean I need to pick something else. Also, thanks so much you guys, for answering all my newb questions
Well after my pondering earlier, I decided on
- which is on page 1 of the https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/... list. I need to keep going on that series and it's been at last a year since I read book 3.
@Elle. If American Demon isn’t on this shelf. Good news you can save and read it for Vampire (25), Witch (6), or Urban-Fantasy (344) shelves if you want to plan ahead because (# of times) is how many people have marked it. Better yet, you can read it now for your “Free Space” because it’s #29 on the UF series listYou’ll be a Bingo pro by next shelf call.
American Demon is a great book btw. Love that series!!
Selection Post ~ Shelf #1 ~ Detective:
Book: Phantom Evil by Heather Graham
Pages: 363
How it fits: Shelved 1 time “paranormal-detectives”
Back up: Murder at Haven's Rock by Kelley Armstrong
Elle wrote: "For example, under detective they have some of Kim Harrison's books but I didn't see American Demon which is on my tbr anyway...so does that mean I need to pick something else. Also, thanks so muc..."
Paranormal Detective/s isn't on the list, but for this shelf it also has other options. Always read the shelf announcement as it gives all the clues.
Options: a character who is a detective or police officer; series or title contains “Detective”
As there are quite a few detectives listed on the top shelves (just not the exact one), I'd say there is a detective in the story. Hahaha
Also for that book you could wait and read it for the Fae shelf, the Witch shelf, the Vampire shelf, the Werewolf shelf or even Magical Realism (I saw that one listed on the top shelves).
Up to you Elle.
Ok from the Detective shelf, page 3 (very bottom entry)https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
Book: Blood Truth by JR Ward
Pages: 432
How it fits: Shelved in “paranormal-detectives”
Me too! I really dislike the time change. That’s not bad, we are only a few hours difference. The good thing is if you post after I go to bed, I am usually up several times at night and I can still make updates. 😝
Hope everyone had a great weekend!! Any further thoughts or suggestions on a team name? These seem to be the two favorites. Team LitWit
