Page numbers with source
How book qualified, with links or cover as necessary.
Date Completed.
Rating/Review.

**Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count only! If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. I am looking for one of those three things when confirming your books! As long the page count you list is correct, I will accept any link to the book. Ebook page count will be acceptable if no Kindle page count available. The acceptability of other page counts will be made on an individual basis.**

Please note that a rating is now required in your completion posts! A small review is also welcome. 😊

MountainKat | 31598 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team X, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Starstruck | 616 comments Hi 👋

I'm Starstruck/ Sarah (she, her) and am based in the UK (GMT +1). Yes, it's past my bedtime but I have insomnia and am often online add odd hours.

As Kat's on a different time zone it's possible some of the tasks will be posted while I'm asleep. If it's one of the mystery tasks it's always safe to assume I'll agree with the majority. While I mainly read plot focused MM romance (historical, mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal) I can, and frequently do, read anything.

The shelves I'm using for the various tasks are...

I'm really looking forward to the start of this challenge.

Jean | 869 comments Welcome Sarah! I’m Jean and I’m from North Carolina so EDT which if I did my math correctly is 5 behind you, 1 hour ahead of Benita and 14!! Hours behind Lea. We may not all be on at the same time. As far as I’m concerned if an executive decision needs to made whoever sees it first is welcome to do so.

Benita, Lea and I just finished a three month India task oriented challenge, which we slayed by the way ladies.

My husband and I had our own accounting practice that we sold in 2019. Retirement is wonderful, I highly recommend it. I have two adult daughters both living and working in DC area. I also have two rescued sister Russian Blue cats who rule the house these days.

I read a wide variety of genres and will read anything for a challenge. I’m looking forward to Racing with you all!

One Sentence Audio Critic | 928 comments Hi!

I am Benita, Goodreads user name One Sentence Audio Critic.

As Jean said in the post immediately above, I just finished a challenge with her and Lea.

I am a semi-retired, recently widowed, University professor.

For pleasure, I primarily read historic romance, but also do a fair amount of cozy mystery and contemporary romance. A few witches, aliens, time portals or police investigating murder is also o.k.

Because of low vision, 99% of the books I do are audio format.

Happy to answer questions...

Benita

Jean | 869 comments So do you all want me to transfer our decisions into a comment post at the top of this thread or leave them in our spreadsheet. Either way I will put the current task and decisions in our thread but didn’t know if you wanted the whole list here as well. I have a couple more links to add for tag requirements and such as soon as I get a chance.

message 15: by Starstruck (new)

Starstruck | 616 comments Jean, either option works for me. It would be useful to have one post with links to our challenge specific shelves that we could use as the qualifying criteria if those tasks are called.

How should we handle selection posts? Do you want one for every call or just for the read X pages or each read a different Y type of tasks.

This challenge only requires a completion post. Unless you are unsure about the book meeting the requirements I would say let’s only do the one posting when finished. Last round I posted with a link to everyone’s completion post for Kat to review. I try to check everything before sending to her so if there are corrections we can edit them before she sees them.

And yes now the second part of your comment makes sense to me. If we need to coordinate or if the task is for specific pages I would say we want to comment, a complete posting probably isn’t necessary, so we as a team can plan the task out.

Starstruck | 616 comments Oh dear, rereading my post I can see how it's confusing. I sometimes forget other people aren't mind readers and omit the relevant context.

I was only thinking of a post with links to our user specific shelves (tbr, recommended, favourite 5).

Sorry if I've caused you more work.

No you aren’t. If you see my post above, I am adding in the links to other relevant shelves just so it easier for everyone. I was going to do this anyway, it’s just where I put them. I will probably also put them in the spreadsheet as that’s easiest for Benita to follow sometimes. Once I have the link it’s no big deal to copy them around.

Jean | 869 comments I have our first 25 potential tasks above in Message 5. I have included links to tags and other helpful lists. I have also put them on our spreadsheet if that is easier for you to use to plan your book. I will continue to work on getting the remaining tasks in groups of 25 listed above with links and decisions we made.

Our first task will be announced tomorrow! Are we ready to race?

Lea Dimovski (ldimov69) | 53 comments Hello ladies! I’m at our family property for Easter break so internet access is spotty.

My name is Lea. I live in Sydney, Australia. I’m mother to three grown men (twins 27 and a 23 year old) I’m also a first time grandma to Isaac (14 weeks). I work as the Head of Marketing and Events in the financial services industry for an ASX listed company.

I’ve been an avid reader since I was 8 when I received my first library card. Its always been my place. I can read anything and enjoy finding a title to fit a task - purposeful reading 😀

I’m sweet to go with whatever reporting format is decided - thread or spreadsheet. From what I’ve gathered this challenge is a little different than those I’ve taken part in so just point me in the right direction and I’ll find reads to suit tasks.

Sigh, yes pages numbers are the earliest English edition with page numbers or if no English kindle edition has page numbers, you can link the Amazon kindle edition with page numbers. The tricky part now I think are tags. I don’t always get the more genre option to get to the shelves and it’s a pain to get to the page with the shelves on my iPad. We can do this though I’m confident! Only a little over an hour til the start. I’m trying to finish up at least one of the three books I’ve got going right now!

Jean | 869 comments First Task - All Teams!

Task 1 - 0. Each teammate reads a book initially published in a Spring Month - March, April, May or June, of any year. Teams decide which month. No pass for this task.

So for your first task, as a team select a Spring Month - March, April, May or June. Each teammate then reads a book initially published in the selected month of any year. If there is a date at the top of the editions page - USE IT! Otherwise, I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format for the qualification. Please include the selected month and the initial publication date in your completion posts.

Can I make an executive decision and pick March?

I thought it was a bittersweet book since for me the main premise was the main character learning to deal with her father’s dementia and subsequent death.

Task #2

Book Title/Link: A Highlander's Christmas Kiss by Paula Quinn
How It Qualifies: <500 reviews, this book = 95 reviews
Pages: 342
Date Finished: April 10, 2023

Review:
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5.

This is book five in Paula Quinn's MacGregors "Highland Heirs" series, set in Scotland in the early 1700's, during and after the merger of England and Scotland.

The books are very loosely connected so can be easily read as stand alone books. They vary dramatically in the amount of actual history included in each book, with Scottish or Jacobite history being minimal in this one.

This is a very typical member of the subgenre "Scottish Highlander historic romance" with a strong male MC, trained in military defense and a feisty MC lass and their troubled wooing. Set during the holiday season, Christmas themes are minimal, so the book is enjoyable aby time of year.

Available on Libby.

Review: 4* Toreth is sent to Athens to investigate the local I&I department. Not my favorite in the series as I prefer it when Toreth and Warrick are working to together against a common enemy. Still it provides character development are Toreth is forced to face up to his possessiveness and fear that Warrick may not be totally his.

Rating/Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hmmm, so this is the backstory of Arthur Truluv told by his 16 year old self. So much teenage drama. Arthur crushing on a girl who has crush on his older brother, who is having a relationship with with his English teacher, who is pregnant by her student and so on. This is one of those books where I think you should have started with the first in the series instead of the prequel.
