yeah! I really enjoyed being "forced" to find and read books for some of the challenges - my Saudi book was an unexpected delight!

Was one of the good things about src when I used to have time to do it properly (double-checking all the requirements was never my strong suit though)

message 304: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8362 comments Funnily enough, I seem to be the only one around with a kindle, the overwhelming majority prefers paperbacks. ;)

message 305: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Around the pool? Yeah, I can see why.

My kindle is facing a dark future. It had the audacity of consuming half its battery with a under 300 pages book. I'm not in the mood to have to charge it every two days. Heck I do that with my phone IF I spend the whole day playing with it. So yeah. Kindle baby is getting outdated.

That makes me happy to hear actually :-)
But yes, Sonia might be right about the pool thing being the reason haha.

message 307: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8362 comments Probably, but as I am of the dithering kind, I don't like to limit my choice to one meagre paperback. It would make me feel bookostrophobic. ;)

message 308: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13006 comments usually when I travel anywhere, 60% of my luggage allowance is books. Who cares about clothes? :D

message 309: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4068 comments Wait so you mean you guys don't read on your kindles by/in the pool? I love that I can get my hands wet and don't have to worry about damaging the paper 😅 and before you ask, no I've never dropped one in the water!

When travelling I usually try to bring max one paperback and otherwise have everything on my Kindle. depending on where I'm going chances are high I'm gonna be visiting a bookstore and getting a little something there anyway...

message 310: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments I mainly travel with my ereader as I tend to be more of a mood reader when travelling and I an bring a lot of books so I won't run out.

plus like Judy, I tend to gravitate towards bookshops and I like having room to buy some, ok way too many, whilst travelling. As for around the pool my ereader is waterproof and I think most of the time I would take it unless i was reading something already and wanted to continue.

message 311: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8362 comments In our group chat, I already told the team about the travelling circus (hubby & sonny) I have to pack for and put up with. :D All the diving gear and whatnot they deem as essentials... and no matter how carefully I may pack, physical books would get damaged in the process (I don't care about the diving gear, lol). So I also feel safer with kindle and lots of choices, headphones and the audible app on my mobile, which I can transport in my own bag. :)

message 312: by Preeti (new)

Preeti (preetisunaina) | 993 comments I used to carry physical books but then I realised that the majority of the resorts I went to had small libraries for guests. I always manage to find at least one book from one TBR and one book that I have never heard of but sounds so interesting that I want to read it. Of course, my kindle and iPad travel with me after having been loaded up. You know, just in case...

message 313: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Eni "made" me replace my phone last summer because mine was acting up, plus, with the use I gave it, it justified for me to have a more fancier one. I basically doubled the budget I usually have for phones... which wasn't that high, but higher than we tend to go for.

Anyway. Since then, I basically stopped used my kindle. Phone has all book apps I need - kindle, audible, play books, and a second audio book player just in case. And access to everything else.

I still take a paperback with me, just in case the apocalypse happens and we get of grid/run out battery/electricity/whatever.

I'm too much of a mood reader to make paperbacks a thing. Plus we're running out of space for physical books. Which I refuse to get part of. That is a battle for another time. I already struggle enough not to stray from digital.

message 314: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13006 comments I don't like reading on my Kindle (or my phone), so while I take it as a backup, I've never had need of it yet.

I've never yet come across books left for guests in the accommodation (except once when I stayed in a hotel that was a boat in London, and those were 3 books, all of them rubbish, lol), but then, I don't stay in resorts, so I'm guessing that's the problem, lol.

So I'm quite happy to lug a stack of books along with me. Never been a problem yet ;)

I've never dropped my kindle in the bathtub (knock on wood) but I definitely HAVE dropped a paperback in the tub before . . . :-|

But just in case I did make sure my newest kindle is waterproof!

Haha yes, I was so surprised! I got a Rincewind stamp on a letter not too long ago.
There were Harry Potter stamps before Discworld :-)

Have a day in which you only do things that make you happy please!!!

And eat chocolate.
