Shelby (stang_lee) | 1982 comments All of these guesses are thoroughly entertaining. I can't wait for TTX! Going to be such a fun round.

Other random X's... (cause I'm also a movie buff ;))

10 Things I Hate About You
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings
How to Lose a Guy in 10 days

TTX Tip

The goodreads app is.... {insert many words here}.... best described as not useful for team challenges.!

It is HIGHLY recommended you only sign up if you have access to the desktop version (via a computer or by using a browser on your device and selecting the desktop version)

And before you ask... sign ups open April 15 ;)

X stands for mystery, an unknown person or quantity, so it could be a(an even more) Mysterious TT (than it usually is)? 🤭

message 60: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (books2hooks) | 479 comments hi everyone. thinking of joining for the first time but super nervous. I alternate between contemporary fiction, graphic novels, and mm romance. I read a lot, but varied. Like at the moment I am slowly working my way through Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, listening to I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy on audio, and cramming in some mm romance novellas for the trans rights readathon. I probably read at least 100 pages a day, but sometimes take a week to finish because I have several going at once. Would that be helpful for a team or would they hate me?

message 61: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10118 comments Mod
I can't speak for everyone but I'm never going to hate a player!
what's most likely to annoy me is no communication. Completing a book a week, and commenting once a week is a solid team player I'd be happy to have :)

When you sign up, bear in mind that graphic novels are likely not going to work for the challenge, so factor that into your estimate of books per month :)

message 62: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13653 comments Mod
I can only second, Cat!
Any kind of reader is welcome to team challenges and any book read helps - the important thing is communicating with your team. Everything else falls naturally into place :-)

message 63: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13006 comments What Cat said! Reliability (i.e. communicating, especially when things go awry. It's perfectly ok not to finish a book you'd hoped to, but the key is to let your captains know) is much, much more important than reading a hundred books in a month!

TT is a lot of fun, and while it can seem daunting before you start, everything usually becomes clear once you start, and your team captains will steer you in the right direction should you be unsure about anything.

My number one tip: Once all the info goes live, read the rules carefully, then read them again. The bones of what you need to know will all be there, and your captains are there for the nitty gritty (does this book work for that task? etc.)

message 64: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1982 comments Grrrrrrrrr! Sorry guys, I'm hijacking this thread for a second cause I'm just so frustrated at the moment. Maybe someone can explain this for me, though I'm still looking for the right place to complain to the powers that be who will probably still do nothing.

So I have this book on my shelf, The Haunting at Midwinter, that was at one point searchable on this site, but apparently got marked as a newsletter only short that apparently now is not a thing you can find on GR. Is this a new thing???? I've never seen this before and it's incredibly frustrating. I get it ok, yes this book is only available through the author's newsletter, but I'm sorry why the hell should that matter to have it listed on this site! I track all of my books on here and use it know what's available in any given series. But by making this book, and any others like it, non-searchable and limiting your ability to update a review if you were lucky enough to get it on your shelf is incredibly frustrating. Why is it that online novels, fan-fiction and the like can be on here, but an author's work that they use as marketing material can't? I could understand it if this was the overlords of Amazon trying to force people into using their service, but there are tons of material on Goodreads that can't be obtained via Amazon. It's not about it being free, because again, tons of that not related to Amazon. It doesn't make any sense to me. I can understand requiring it maybe be denoted clearly in the description at the top that to receive this book one must sign up for an author's newsletter, but denying it the space on Goodreads, the premier book space on the web is absurd. I can just as easily unsubscribe from any other's newsletter as sign up for it to get my book. And it costs me nothing but the 10 seconds to click a button. To not be able to track that book here along with everything else I track is infuriating! I'm going to have to find some place in the help threads or comment areas of this site to also post this rant, because this, in my opinion, is a standard that needs to change.

Sally906 | 1765 comments I didn’t do Tower Teams last year - but going to tip my toes back in the waters. Not sure what the dates will be but guessing starting in May and finishing in July?

Will be travelling some of the that time period - but if I commit to one to two books a week (4-8 a month) will not let the team down 👍

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments Yay! I love this team challenge.

For fellow movie buffs don't forget my favorite Friday the 13th movie, Jason X. So campy tongue in cheek funny with plenty of gruesome deaths as well.

Jason X-- read only books where someone named Jason dies....repeatedly.

I hope we are on the same team as well 😀

Where are you off to?

We are heading back to Darwin in June to babysit the grandkids during the school holidays - then planning on driving back via Western Australia depending on the roads after the massive floods earlier this year.
If we can’t do WA we will drive back via South Australia and do Kangaroo Island.

Cornwall and Wales... finally. We first had organised it in 2020..and I'm also calling in on my daughter who's living in Ireland at the moment.

That sounds like a great trip. I really enjoyed the Kimberley last year.. except for the heat.

message 76: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 1765 comments I know about the heat - that’s why we’re going mid year 😜

1/3 of my family tree is from Wales - I certainly celebrate my Welshness - I even have a welsh international rugby jersey which I wore to a Wales vs Australia match in Brisbane sitting in the middle of the Aussie side.

message 81: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13006 comments I can't help but feel the word 'signals' in the news letter is important. While aliens would be the obvious answer, I think maybe we should up our game and have a challenge entirely in Morse code. Or smoke signals. (oh wait, I live in a smoke-free zone. I wouldn't be able to participate. *sobs*)

message 82: by Agnieszka (last edited Mar 31, 2023 03:17AM) (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 223 comments Another speculation:

X-rays (anything medical; books dwelling on reason behind actions like psychological thrillers, mysteries, chick-lit; biographies or historical fiction featuring or centered around the people and technology depicting inner parts of bodies, e.g. Marie Curie, MRT, echograph/ultra sonic…; science books about body or organ function)

anything book related with X (title, author name, character name, nickname, series name, location, …)

Solve for X (mathematics in any form: fiction, science, pop science or even just linked by title or cover objects :-D)

Yeah... I was internally cringing whilst at the same time laughing like a maniac and thinking you are so lucky I'm just a regular player...

And then I remember who the powers that be currently are, and promptly fell to the floor laughing hysterically because feeding the chipmunks is even more dangerous now

But sometimes there is a kind of morbid fun in poking the chipmunks to see what will happen. A bit like if you have a wound in your mouth and you keep prodding it with your tongue. You know it's going to hurt, but you just can't stop yourself :D

You or Karen would have been my guesses. Not sure many people are still around from my tt2 team.

message 88: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments phewww, found them all... had to do a treasure hunt on the archives, because some editions I just couldn't remember the name. Like for example towers 3. I loved it, my element was Dark but the only thing I was sure, was that I wasn't one of the RingWraiths

Here they are, all pretty (Best Teams of every edition, I swear! Specially Team Lust)

The A-Team
Cadet Blue
Scions of the Dark
Poseidon
BB-8
Hermione Granger
Lust
Rincewind

Karen didn't played towers 1. Steven was on my A-Team, but I think he skipped Discworld towers... although I might be wrong.

[EDIT] I was wrong, he was on my team.... ooooohhhh the shame...
