I just finished an excellent Fantasy novel, Fourth Wing
by Rebecca Yarros. Love the dragon, and our spunky protagonist, Violet. Book two comes out in November.
Finished this past week:
— Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers
— Olive's Ocean: A Newbery Honor Award Winner by Kevin Henkes. Local author and partially set in Madison, WI, partly on the Atlantic coast.
— The Bear by William Faulkner, a long short story/novella that was an August group read for a Classics group.
Almost finished:
— The Troll Garden and Selected Stories by Willa Cather, a collection of short stories. (Finished on 8/28)
In progress:
— Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert, a contemporary romance on my Kindle. I’m about 40 percent on this one.
— Washington Square by Henry James, another August classic group read. I’m about a third of the way on this one (printed book).

I am reading the latest book by Sujata Massey The Mistress of Bhatia House
Set in 1922 Bombey. Our protagonist Perveen Mistry is the only Woman Solicitor in India at that time. Very good view of India in the 1920s, well developed characters. I great enjoy this series.
Here is my 3 star review of Paper Targets: Art Can Be Murder
by Steve S. Saroff.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm an outlier on this novel. There are many 4 and 5 star reviews.
Here is my 4.15 rounded to 4 stars review of Her Wolf for the Holidays
by Terry Spear:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Paranormal Romance
The characterization and world-building are well-done in this novel. It’s a light, easy read with a fast-paced romance. While there was some minor conflict, I wanted some additional intensity and suspense. Despite this, I enjoyed the book.
Here is my 4.7 rounded to 5 stars review of Payback in Death
by J.D. Robb:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I love this series. Robb is an excellent storyteller who combines a creative plot with suspenseful scenes and some action and romance. Overall, this novel was a twisty tale with great characterization that kept me turning the pages. I loved spending time with some of my favorite characters and can't wait for the next book in the series.
Here is my 2.98 rounded to 3 stars review of A Trouble of Fools
by Linda Barnes:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Private Detective
This is an outlier review. There are many readers who loved this novel.
There’s a decent mystery in this story, but the start is slow-paced, meandering, and uneven. However, it picks up in the last third of the novel. Overall, this sets the stage for an interesting series with some eccentric characters and new investigations to pursue.
Finished Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert. Next Kindle book planned is The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa.
I finished yesterday a medieval mystery ( it's not a cozy because of some bad words and a sex scene, even if not explicit )Veil of Lies
by Jeri Westerson and I loved it (except one little, but to me important, thing ). It could be 5 stars, I rated it 4.5 and rounded down to 4 stars. Here is my review, it's very long and I'm sorry, look like I'm in love this series and the main character.

Romantic Suspense
Overall, I enjoyed this novel which was suspenseful, atmospheric, full of action, and it had great characterization.
I am reading The Housemaid's Secret
by Freida McFadden. This is book 2 in Housemaid series. Love her books. You think you know what is going to happen and she switches it up on you.
Alice, The Housemaid's Secret was great. Another book I enjoyed by McFadden was The Coworker. You should check it out if you haven't already.

by Kat Martin:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Romantic Suspense + Ghosts and more
Overall, this novel was entertaining and had great characterization. The plot is multi-layered and gets increasingly dangerous as the unsettling disturbances escalate and secrets are revealed. It’s twisty, thought-provoking, and tragic, as well as full of suspenseful moments. It's also very atmospheric.
Here is my 4.16 rounded to 4 stars review of Pines
by Blake Crouch:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Suspense, Science Fiction, Horror, and more
Overall, this novel was somewhat uncomfortable at times, entertaining, and imaginative.
Here is my 3.38 rounded to 3 stars review of A Curse of Queens
by Amanda Bouchet:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Fantasy
Intrigue, danger, action, suspense, a quest, and a romance are mixed with Greek mythology and fantasy in the fourth book in Amanda Bouchet’s Kingmaker Chronicles. There was always something new happening in this story that demanded my attention once the quest started. However, the first third of the book was extremely slow-paced. It also took me a while to understand this new-to-me fantasy world. I wanted a little more world-building. I believe those who have read the earlier books in the series would already have that grasp.
Finished two books this week, both of which I enjoyed:
The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa — Contemporary romance read on my Kindle.
Passing by Nella Larsen — Classic from he Harlem Renaissance. Never saw the ending coming!

Don't know why, but Goodreads didn't edit my review some days ago and the link was almost empty.I feel enthusiastic about Crispin Guest series and here is my review about book #2 __ I rated it 5 full stars !!
A lot of action and suspense.
Serpent in the Thorns
by Jeri WestersonHere is my review :

Here is my 4.19 rounded to 4 stars review of The Last Guardian
by Simon Gervais:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Political Thriller
A great start to the novel grabbed my attention. Action, suspense, intrigue, and danger keep this novel moving at fast pace. There is a strong sense of good versus evil throughout the novel. Geopolitical conflicts that help enable drug, human, and weapons trafficking are highlighted in this book.
Two more books finished this weekend:
The Revenge of the Baby-Sat (Calvin and Hobbes #5) by Bill Watterson. Always good for a laugh!
Lady Windermere's Fan by Oscar Wilde. Play. Classic group read. So many famous quotes that come from this, such as
"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."

My readathon weekend reviews:

Murder at Castle Traprain by Jackie Baldwinhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Lure of the Jewel Sea by Rhonda Forresthttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4.2 rounded to 4 stars review of Her Last Words
by Carolyn Arnold:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Police Procedural
The author brings action and intense moments to the novel, but the story built a little less suspense into the story line than usual. Despite this, the plot is intriguing, full of chasing down leads and interviewing suspects and witnesses in anticipation of identifying the killer.
