I'm taking a look at another of next week's new releases -
Shattered Sight by Liz Milliron https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I listened to A Court of Mist and Fury. It was awesome! Thank you to who ever encouraged me to keep going with the series. This book was much better than A Court of Thorns and Roses.
I'm kicking off the week with the thriller
Helpless by Annette Dashofy. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I very rarely read nonfiction. I finished it yesterday very well written and researched Astor: The Rise and Fall of an American Fortune
.
My review for
The English Wife by Anna Stuart, it was a phenomenal read!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Poor choices
Somewhat tumultuous at times

Thought-provoking and Engaging
Well-researched
I mentioned on the previous page that I was participating in Middle Grade March this month, and read far more books for it than planned or anticipated. Here’s what I’ve finished the last couple weeks.
Middle Grade:
* The Littles to the Rescue and The Littles Give a Party by John Lawrence Peterson (books 3 & 5 in the series — I had to skip 4 as it wasn’t available — it’s been fun revisiting this series).
* I Am Quiet: A Story for the Introvert in All of Us by Andie Powers (I wish there were books like this around when I was a kid)
* The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy
* Dolphins at Daybreak and Viking Ships at Sunrise by Mary Pope Osborne
* The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O'Neill
Classic Children’s Books:
* Heidi by Johanna Spyri (A reread — we had two or three editions of this book growing up)
* Nonsense Songs by Edward Lear (utter nonsense!)
* Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling (fun fables)
* The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi (I’ve only ever seen the Disney Animated film, so it was interesting reading the original story)
Adult books:
* Bradbury Stories: 100 of His Most Celebrated Tales by Ray Bradbury (I spent the last year working through this anthology. Some I had read previously, but most were new to me.)
* Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa (Really liked this one)
* Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams ( It’s been a long time since I revisited this one. I only remembered scenes from two chapters.)

Starting the week with something different -
Kingdom Keepers Inheritance: The Final Draw by Ridley Pearson https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I listened to A Language of Dragons and I was underwhelmed by it. It had a lot of potential, but I didn't think it was well executed.
Mystery set in Renaissance Florence (Italy)City of Vengeance
by D.V. BishopMy review here:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4 star review of The Unlucky Ones by Hannah Morrissey:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Crime Novel
Police Procedural
Dark, gritty, suspenseful, and disturbing at times.
Good characterization
Dual points of view
Here is my 4.09 rounded to 4 stars review of The Summer Guests by Tess Gerritsen:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Mystery / Crime Novel
Former spies, acting police chief
2nd book in The Martini Club crime series
Great atmosphere and characterization
Told from several points of view
Historical aspect comes into play later in the book and adds another level of complexity and interest
Entertaining and suspenseful
Here is my 4.25 rounded to 4 stars review of Gothictown by Emily Carpenter:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Southern gothic horror / mystery
Chilling prologue
Flawed, disturbing, and eccentric characters, alarming events, a somewhat isolated location, and a bit of the paranormal
There’s a focus on both its history and the current situation of the town.
Dark, disturbing, compelling, and thought-provoking
My review for
Safe Harbour in Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensenhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished Witchcraft for Wayward Girls
by Grady Hendrix. HIs books are unusual. This book deals with pregnant teens in 1970 who get sent away by their families to have their babies. Does a good job showing morals of the time. Some witchcraft mixed in and very interesting ending.
I'm kicking off April with
People of Darkness by Tony Hillerman https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm slipping in
The Lies We Live by Liz Milliron, the sixth in her series set in World War II Buffalo. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I started the week with
Hounds of the Hollywood Baskervilles by Elizabeth Crowens https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm nearly finished with
Ruddy Gore, 7th in the Phryne Fisher series. I had it a little further down in my April tbr, but moved it up in honor of the author's recent death. RIP, Kerry Greenwood.
