Horror
Overall, this is a book that kept me turning the pages after a slow start to see what would happen next. It was initially intriguing and this was followed by shocking.

The Tilt, by excellent Aussie author Chris Hammer, is the second in this rural mystery series, but it would be just as good as a standalone. Homicide detectives in small towns are up against generations of feuds and loyalties.

Charles Dickens is known for many things, but this spooky story about a railroad worker seems different to me. The Signal-Man could easily have been a Twilight Zone episode.

Romantic Comedy
Overall, this was a story that quickly drew me into Alfie and Mabel’s world and their journey together. It was an engaging and cute read with plenty of witty banter. The characterization was excellent and the descriptions gave readers an appreciation for their living conditions. However, at 60%, the book went steamy and spicy without advancing the story line much until the last 10%.
