A couple of things to keep in mind:

✸ Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.

✸ Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Thursday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Friday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.

✸ If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain week, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the week in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)

✸ If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.

✸ We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.

✸ If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!

Captain's Handbook

✸ The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.

✸ The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role every week, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.

✸ Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.

✸ Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.

✸ If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.

✸ The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 1591 comments Hello team. I am Roger a gay 54 year old widower with MS. I am semi shut-in, I can only go out if someone comes and helps me and transports me. So reading shouldn't be a problem. Read mainly MM romances. Live in Milwaukee, WI so Central time.

lorii (Loriidae) | 835 comments Hi everyone, waving hello from Tropical Northern Australia. I read romantic suspense, historical romance, urban fantasy, and the occasional epic fantasy.

I am happy to Captain. I enjoy this game. Last year I played both games (SS and SSS) but found that although I usually read three books a week, I wanted the freedom to pick up any book that caught my eye.

No problem with my MS didn't want to captain, hell there are days when I read 4 or 5 books that day.

Heli | 286 comments Hi guys!
I'm Heli from Finland. I work irregularly all three shifts as a practical nurse. I read a lot when I'm not working. Usually mysteries, thrillers and suspense, occasionally fantasy and romance. I have lots of unfinished series to choose from, since I tend to start a new series on a whim. I just can't help myself ;-)

@Loriidae I'm sure you'll make a great captain. Thank you for volunteering.

I am from NY originally but now live in South Florida. I read lots of different genres but mystery and paranormal are my favorites. I have a lot of different series going at a time so I can usually find one to fit a slot.

@ Loriidae I am fine with you being captain. thank you for stepping up. If you need a break or find you are not able to roll or post I am fine to step in.

Yeah, no point puting yourself under any extra stress. Reading has always kept me sane, through the good and particularly the bad.

lorii (Loriidae) | 835 comments I am more of a series person than a stand alone, I read mostly romance and I enjoy seeing the previous couples' HEA in action over the next books in the series. That would be one of my bug bears, when the previous couples might as well not even have existed in the following books.

thanks Roger, so yes that would be useful for you to roll the dice today as 12.01 CT is about 4.00pm, in about 3 hours time, and today is a busy day moving our son...

On a normal week, I would pleased if anyone who sees that all five reviews have been posted and it is Friday rolls the dice and posts on here that they have done so with our new spot. I will post all the updates to the reporting thread etc.

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 1591 comments No problem I am usually up. But if people wait until Friday to post their book last person to post can roll as I don't check often.

Review:
This book starts with a christening and ends in a surprise twist. Alex Cross is investigating a series of bank robberies that make no sense to him or anyone in his team. The robbers kill people in random and their leader Mastermind always seems to be several steps ahead of the police and FBI. At first I was not very interested in the plot, but I got invested as the story got more complicated. As always I'm also interested in knowing which turn Alex's personal life will take. The final sentence of the book was such a surprise. It literally blew my mind.

Hmm! Well, if you like a teenage romance, this is what you'll get in this book. Given the premise you'd expect a bit of emotional growth to come with the loss of a good friend, & some fun following the dead girl's scavenger hunt, but mostly what you get is a silly, contrived romance with no self-development. Maybe, I'm being too harsh, I'm not a big fan of YA books for the most part, but this story seems to have little merit to me. Sweet occasionally, but eminently forgettable.

Even though this is number six in the series you can easily pick it up in the middle of the series as I did. The KEY news team is in action as one of the TV personalities decides to show the world how easy it is to get Anthrax on his segment without permission. Then another person in the newsroom gets sick with Anthrax and dies. Was it an accident or on purpose.

I did figure out who did before the end but didn't know why until the end. Lots of twists and turns and I love the short chapters. They are like potato chips.

Review: This is an ensemble book with three different subplots intertwined in it. These are all gay subplot to involve getting children. One by adoption, the other by surrogacy. The last subplot involves Mike and Connor, Connor just broke up with his long term partner and self medicates with alcohol. It is so bad he nearly dies from alcohol poisoning. Connor enters rehab and he and Mike start a loving relationship.

Review:
I really enjoyed this sixth installment of Sherrif Bree Taggert and her Park Ranger fiance, Matt. A body is discovered murdered in a gruesome way and Bree and Matt are convinced that this is only the beginning although to all intents and purposes it appears a once off premeditated crime. I enjoy ML’s writing and this book was filled with red herring teasers that had me guessing any number of outcomes and then changing my mind as events unfolded. What ML really brings to life are the secondary characters, and the animals. As the series progresses, it is the that enhances the story and gives a nice little oomph to the mystery. A very enjoyable read. 4.5 stars
