This is the only installment so far in the series that's written in Maud's POV. All the others have been from Dina's perspective. This can be read as a standalone.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9972 comments The Blue Monsoon The Blue Monsoon (Blue Mumbai, #2) by Damyanti Biswas by Damyanti Biswas

During monsoon season, police in Mumbai investigate a vicious and bizarre murder in a Hindu temple.

Mumbai - and the social situation in India - provides an interesting backgound for this police procedural/thriller. 4 stars

Since finishing Silver Nitrate, I've been reading short stories in Her Smoke Rose Up Forever, The Adventures of Ellery Queen and The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard. Settling on something seems to be taking me some time.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9972 comments Mother of the Bride Murder Mother of the Bride Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery, #29) by Leslie Meier by Leslie Meier

Amateur sleuth Lucy Stone's daughter is getting married in France, and the whole family travels overseas for the nuptials. A murder occurs, and Lucy itches to investigate.

More family travel story than mystery. 3 stars

Currently reading A Haunting on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand. At 108 pages in something should have happened but it hasn't.

Also finishing up The Lost Gallows by John Dickson Carr. His Castle Skull, It Walks by Night and The Corpse in the Waxworks were all great fun, although true to the period, a bit on the wordy side.

Araych | 676 comments The Secret Hours The Secret Hours by Mick Herron by Mick Herron

Let me say that I think I've read all the Slow Horses books and loved them all. This book is a precursor to those. I love Herron's style but I liked this book least of them all. It moves about in time, which can be a bit confusing, and the names change, which is even more confusing. I guess we're supposed to enjoy trying to figure out who the characters become as slow horses. Well, I didn't very much enjoy that. Looks like everybody loves the book but me. Such is life. Liked it, didn't love it.
