Barbara | 1 comments I read a book called "The Windsor Knot." It was a good idea - at the time of Queen Elizabeth's 90s birthday, there are festivities at Windsor, and a young musician guest is found dead. It was pitched as "book 1" in Her Majesty the Queen investigates, but I had a hard time staying interested. The idea was good, the writing was good, but the plot was dull and because the Queen had to look like she was keeping above it all, there wasn't a lot of active sleuthing.
I will try another book by the writer, though - SJ Bennet - because as I said, the writing was good.

I've finished readng Murder in the Age of Enlightenment: Essential Stories, a book of short stories written by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa.

Now reading Heaven's Hill by R.B. Russell, more on the speculative fiction side. So far, a lot of fun.

Thomas (tom471) | 2003 comments I read Who Cries for the Lost by C.S. Harris It is a historical fiction mystery, set in Regency London, England. It is book 18 in the series and I recommend the series. While it would work as a stand alone, I have read the previous 17 books in the series and there are continuing events that progress throughout the series, My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

You might enjoy watching the Gamache TV series "Three Pines". Alfred Molina plays Gamache. Tantou Cardinal (I saw her for the first time in "Dances with Wolves" and many times later on) also has an important role.
I have ordered the first Louise Penny novel in German translation at amazon.de and will read it next month.

Araych | 676 comments Street Music Street Music (Poke Rafferty Mystery #9) by Timothy Hallinan by Timothy Hallinan

Poke Rafferty #9, probably best to read series in order. I'm a Tim Hallinan fan -- I've read all the Junior Bender books and now all the Poke Rafferty books and we're friends on Facebook. So I'm very sorry to say how disappointed I was in Street Music. The Poke part is fine, but half of the book is taken up with the terribly sad and depressing story of a new character. I ended up just paging through that part, something I never do. Sorry Tim -- not recommended. 1 star.
