Currently rereading April #13 Let Us Tell You Again by Mackey Chandler. This is all there is right now. April #14 is due out any time now and will be the final book of the series most likely.

I’m also keeping my eyes peeled for the next Jerry Boyd book. I have some fantasy books preordered that are coming out in April.

message 52: by Nick (new)

Nick (dreydak) | 45 comments Currently reading a few different things. War Storm by Victoria Aveyard. I think this is the last novel in the series and there is one small novella (4.5) after this. So far, I have really enjoyed this series. Its a dystopian, YA romance sorta thing.

I am also reading the 1st of 2 prequel novels for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Movie. This first book is called Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: The Druid's Call by E.K. Johnston.

I was asked to read something out of my usual reads, Raw: A Primeval Harem by Misty Vixen. Not sure if I will make it through this one, I'm halfway through and still waiting for an actual plot to be revealed.

Lastly, I started Tell Me by Lisa Jackson which is an interesting Romantic Suspense Mystery Crime Thriller tale I stumbled on. I never read Lisa Jackson before and the first book in this series hooked me in and now I am on book 3 of 4.

After finishing my reread of the April series, I found a new to me fantasy series that grabbed me. Hopefully that will last me until one of the books I’ve been expecting to drop soon finally appears.

message 54: by Nick (new)

Nick (dreydak) | 45 comments Today I finished reading War Storm by Victoria Aveyard

Overall, I was disappointed in how this ended. The series started strong with the first book, The Red Queen, but as this series progressed, as the characters developed and the plots led up to the final confrontations and climaxes, it delivered a lackluster ending.

For a more detailed, fuller review with spoilers, please see my review of this book on GoodReads- that full review is located here:

Nick (dreydak) | 45 comments I am currently reading The Marked Girl The Broken World (Marked Girl #2) by Lindsey Klingele , by Lindsey Klingele Lindsey Klingele which is the second book in this Marked Girl series. I originally found the hardcover edition of this book in a dollar store. The book's cover (so important, I think, when selecting a book) and back cover commentary were right up my alley. I read the first book The Marked Girl (Marked Girl, #1) by Lindsey Klingele The Marked Girl, which I reviewed here on GoodReads: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... I'm looking forward to this second book and seeing how the author's quality increased (technically) with the second, and I believe, the final book in this series.

I’ve been reading fantasy lately, but there’s a new Jerry Boyd book just out. #32 Title is “Dog Days”. Not sure whether I’ll finish the fantasy I’m currently rereading or switch to Dog Days then finish the fantasy later. I’m trying to not start it immediately because it’s close to bedtime and I need to sleep tonight, not stay up reading until 3am.

Edit: I did start Dog Days by Jerry Boyd last night but managed to put it down again for bedtime. Will finish that fantasy later.

Nick (dreydak) | 45 comments I'm still reading The Broken World byLindsey Klingele I also paused one other book (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: The Druid's Call by E.K. Johnston) because I was able to get an advance copy of Witch King by Martha Wells Witch King by Martha Wells via Netgalley in addition to starting Exit Strategy also by Martha Wells as part of our April reads.

Finished Dog Days by Jerry Boyd. Yes loosely space opera, but not as much in the way of action or putting Bob into a tight spot he has to solve. It seems to set up for more interesting action in the next book though.

April #14 by Mackey Chandler is taking a lot longer than expected. The author says it’s at 50K words so less than halfway. Sigh. There are some good fantasy books coming out later this month though. Still resisting getting the eARC of the new Liaden Universe book.

So I’m back to that fantasy book I was rereading.

Suman Saha (suman_saha) Started Planet of the Apes by Pierre Boulle today and immediately fell in live with it.

The best part is there is a whole series on it. Let's see how far I go with it.

I’ve been reading and rereading various fantasy books. I finally gave in and bought the eARC of Salvage Right by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller so I’ll finally be back in space opera for a while.

message 66: by Nick (new)

Nick (dreydak) | 45 comments I'm currently reading Black Canary: Breaking Silence by Alexandra Monir from he DC Icons series. Next on deck is Forward the Foundation by Isaac Asimov

message 67: by Suman (new)

Suman Saha (suman_saha) Today I started Kesrith by C.J. Cherryh of Faded Sun Trilogy, which is the LIMITED BOTM for May.

Kesrith (The Faded Sun, #1) by C.J. Cherryh

So far, I have found it is deeply engaging and wonderfully nerrated.

Finished reading the eARC of Salvage Right by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. Rereading Legacy Systems; first story is how Val Con found Jeeves. Second story is The Space at Tinsori Light which gives some backstory for Salvage Right. Odds are good I’ll reread Neogenesis next which covers the rest of the backstory of Tinsori Light.

Salvage Right ties up a lot of loose ends and most of the action takes place on Tinsori Light, bouncing the POV among a rather large set of characters.

Tim Gibson | 2 comments Hi everyone, new to the group and my first time posting. This seemed like a good place to start. I'm currently finishing up Ender’s Game It is my first venture into the Enderverse. I am loving it, I was wondering what people's opinions on where to head next. Should I read in publishing order or go chronological? I also just came across a book I read years ago, I loved it and wanted to get into that series. Any one have opinions on the order I should read the Nick Webb Legacy Fleet books?

I really enjoyed Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, but the ones after that were a disappointment, as were his other series.

Trike | 777 comments Betsy wrote: "I really enjoyed Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, but the ones after that were a disappointment, as were his other series."

I’ve never really like Ender’s Game the novel; the short story is superior. Card is also a genuine garbage person, so I don’t want to elevate him any more than he already has been. There are definitely other authors one should support instead, ones who don’t have a legacy of violent rhetoric and hateful actions.

message 74: by Tim (new)

Tim Gibson | 2 comments Oh damn, I didn’t know that about Card. I’ll look into it, but what’s the issue with him?

Please take the conversation about Card to a new thread, as it is a touchy subject. Having it in a separate thread makes it easier to ignore for those who are trying to avoid it.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 621 comments Picked up a couple of books today after having my quarterly blood test. They are hard cover collections of Star Trek comic material. One is The City on the Edge of Forever and is based on Ellison's original teleplay. The other is New Visions Volume 3. These are Eaglemoss editions and are somewhat annoying as there are no UPCs or ISBNs on them. Picked these up in one of our dollar stores and they only cost 5.00 each.

message 86: by Duane (new)

Duane | 16 comments Currently reading ARKWRIGHT by Allen Steele. I've seen it described as a love letter about SF's Golden Age and the genre’s past, but I think it's a little more than that. I'm less than a third of the way in--I'm always struck by how quickly Steele's writing flows--but I see this novel also as an explanation for why SF's earlier generations (First Fandom and those readers from the 1960s and '70s) see hope and wonder in space exploration; an argument for continuing to strive for the stars; a description of the awe that the stars instill and the doorway that SF provides to the sublime. Steele's novel is a argument to those who've grown up only on STAR WARS or only on 21st century SF/dystopias not to give up hope for humanity's expanding into space. It's an optimistic and hope-filled book.

I have a book on prostrate cancer that i need to read by Monday and a book out from the library on my daughters card (can't use mine at this time) so I need to get those read. The latter book is a Justice League collection so it won't take long. Not sure on the cancer book though.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 621 comments I did read this in my email so with a bit of stretching it fits here. The minor league baseball team in Sugar Land is known as the Space Cowboys. They are the Triple A affiliate of the Houston Astros, so the name makes sense. Sugar Land apparently is an actual city in Texas. As you can figure out I am a baseball fan (fave team of course the Toronto Blue Jays).

Nick (dreydak) | 45 comments Other than the group reads I am also working on the following:

Currently participating as a beta reader of "Beyond the Glooming Pass" by Rebecca Holmes, a well-written fantasy adventure book featuring a strong female lead. Ms. Holmes is hoping to see this book published.

Aso reading Blood Cull by John Conroe which is book 18 of the Demon Accords Urban Fantasy series I have been hooked on for the past few years.

I have a few text books I am reading too, but they are not as fun as the fiction! :-)
