Carolyn | 9836 comments Water by John Boyne Water John Boyne is a stunning novella about a woman hiding from the world to deal with her grief and guilt following the death of her daughter and imprisonment of her husband. Very powerful and moving.

Carolyn | 9836 comments Shot With Crimson (Josephine Tey #11) by Nicola Upson Shot With Crimson by Nicola Upson is #11 in her series featuring a fictionalised version of Golden age crime writer Josephine Tey. Set in Hollywood and England in 1939, it's an excellent blend of history and mystery.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I got more than I expected with Aussie author Alexander Thorpe's debut novel Death Leaves the Station. Western Australia, early 1900s, "Halfwell Station", a rural property, not a train stop. More Agatha Christie than 'outback noir', with humour to boot. Good read 😊

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Billed as a stand-alone, The Secret Hours is required reading for real fans of Mick Herron's Slough House series: topical, funny and very clever, with lots of backstory. Sean Barrett's narration is excellent. 5★s

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments My library only has Jennifer Woodward's version of the 11th book in Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series, After That Night. I prefer Kathleen Early's. 5★s for the story, though

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments "The artist" is nameless, houseless (NOT homeless), and only 17 when she sees Lola in the Mirror. Award-winning Aussie author Trent Dalton's wonderful new novel shows the precarious life of people living on the edges.
