Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I just read Midnight Magic by Avi, and I loathed it the whole way through. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Does anyone else have a challenge book that they've read and hate?

Corynne | 106 comments None that I completely loathe yet, but A Tale of Two Cities was just "meh" for me, with some good take away quotes

.•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*•. Christine .•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*• Yes, two so far. One was Bossypants which I read for my funny book. I did not find it funny and forced myself to finish. The other was Tinkers. This was my Pulitzer Prize book and I just didn't get it. After 20 pages I wanted to delete it.

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments I really didn't enjoy Miramont's Ghost. It was really depressing and nothing good seemed to happen to any of the characters. I kept reading expecting something good would happen as a twist, until about two thirds of the way through when I realised that the good things just weren't going to come.

Frankenstein didn't rate very highly with me and the book I'm reading at the moment, The Game isn't one of my favourites at the moment, but they had/have enjoyable bits in places.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) That's surprising! I really enjoyed Frankenstein!

message 6: by Kathi (new)

Kathi (kathijo) | 78 comments I hated every painful minute of reading Jane Eyre!

message 7: by Grace Meredith (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Why did you hate Jane Eyre? I found it really boring at some points, but the romance is very interesting and vivid!

I'm really bad about abandoning books early on if I think they just don't have that hook. Typically, I know within the first 50 pages whether I'm really loving it. I know that I may be missing books that will improve later on but I just think that reading should be enjoyable and that I should not want to put down the book, not a chore. That's probably partially why I've never gotten into Classics, since they require more effort.

This year has been pretty good but I did abandon Ready Player One and Serena. I may revisit them later because at that point I was still strictly following the order of the list and I'm not sure that I was genuinely in the mood for them.

Cristina (cristina_urs) | 23 comments I totally hate "Delirium" by Lauren Oliver. Read like half of the book but it bored the crap out of me (no offense to anyone that enjoyed it) and made me so darn sleepy. This is the first book in my life that made feel like that.

message 10: by Grace Meredith (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Isn't it fitting that it should be called Delirium?

I guess so, but I had high hopes for it,though.I guess I should just lower my expectations sometimes despite the good reviews and opinions..

Jessica | 225 comments I really didn't like Ready Player One, once I got to the halfway point it got a bit better, but I HATED the first half.

message 13: by jazzmin (new)

jazzmin I hated reading White Space but i read the whole thing because i cant start a book and not finish but this book was horrible and the plot where was it i picked this up at the library good thing i didn't buy it i would have been so mad

message 14: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 225 comments @Jazzmin: I have to finish books I read as well. The only one I didn't finish was an audiobook version of The Time Traveler's Wife, it may have worked better reading it normally, but as it was it was REALLY confusing as an audiobook (especially since I space out sometimes, lol).

I read the time travelers wife like a month ago it was a good book it and it told a great story even though it not that long it took me forever to read it but i think if i had the audiobook it would have took me a week or two

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Lolita. Vile.

Hated the characters, hated the narration style, and of course I don't need to say that I hated what the book was actually about.

Yes, it is brilliant. But I still loathed it more than I ever thought possible.

message 17: by Cybersekkin (new)

Cybersekkin | 25 comments your mothers favorite book. I can hardly recall ever seeing her read so I asked her in about a direct way as I can and got an "I read" response when asked any titles she liked I got a whatever is there response. I am going to skip that week challenge and fill it in with something else.

Is it terrible of me to think this sounds like Palin?

message 19: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I'm not looking forward to that one either Cyber - I don't speak to my mother, so I can't ask her, but I remember she loved those Patricia Cornwell books. Probably my least favourite genre.

message 20: by misplacedselchie (new)

misplacedselchie | 347 comments The Princess Bride. I couldn't wait to be done with it. blah

message 21: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I didn't really enjoy that book as much as I thought I would Lora - I was trying to explain it to a friend just this weekend, and couldn't. It's just ... weird. One of those rare occurrences where the movie is so much better!

message 22: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Winchester I didn't like Mr. Mercedes. It was painfully average and very disappointing considering who wrote it. I like King, but this wasn't good.

Other than that, I liked all the books I've read so far :).
