Bonus:
Main character - Cinderella.
(view spoiler)[Annaleigh has to take care of her stepmother (because of her pregnancy), who at the last minute tells her that she wasn't able to finish planning the Churning Festival so Annaleigh had to rush to organise things in time (like when Cinderella has to rush to finish her chores so that she is able to go to the ball).
While her sisters aren't ugly, they don't really help Annaleigh with anything and she has to take care of things on her own, despite her being the second oldest.
For about 6 years Annaleigh has been in mourning so her clothes have been dark, and near the beginning of this book the stepmother decides that despite the latest death, they should forget about the mourning traditions and start dressing in colourful clothing again (like Cinderella always wearing rags until she gets the beautiful ball gown).
