Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments So....when we find the child distraction items...sorry I saw where Keely added the book the other day but now she has done what answers my question

Disregard my rambling, I have to go look to see what the "Look at the crowds" item column is in the store front

message 202: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments Next question......anyone read this months BOMs before? I like thriller but Romantic Suspense is more my thing. And I don't like it too off the rails. I can handle Lock Every Door by Riley but Gone Girl is more my speed. Wondering where either of the BOMS fall.

message 203: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Hmm. what is the look at the crowds bit again?
I haven't read either of the BOMs, but I put them both on hold from Libby. Hopefully they'll come through sometime soon.

message 204: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I'm still not sure if I've done the child distraction thing right.

I've not read either BOMs before but I've got The House on Needless Street on reserve, but it won't be available until the 21st. I'm trying to work my way through The Four Winds as we can still use it this round if it is finished within a month of the start date.
Hopefully we will have enough meals to actually use our BOMs swap things this round.

message 205: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments @ Alicia I am currently reading The Last House on Needless Street, it is quite strange so far, and it doesn't have any romantic suspense in it. I am really enjoying it though.

message 206: by Heather (last edited Oct 05, 2022 01:47AM) (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments Also, I noticed that we cannot use "Dirty Secret" to make hot chocolate as it is under 500 pages. For the DDC items, the books have to have the meal category "ANY".

Arctic Fire because it is only 100 pages can only be used for Fresh items so the "flour" cannot be used in the curry.

message 207: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments I used Hot Chocolate as a non alcoholic drink, not a desert...I thought that was the difference. Shoot...I keep reading these books that mention food a lot but not specific food.

I'll await your final thoughts on that book Heather

message 208: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments "Look at the crowds" is the column in the shop front in yellow and it is finding "tuna, anchovy and ???"

I thought it was the child distraction items, but those actually go in the meals as a bonus. We only get 20 of those.

message 209: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I'm reading The Great Alone and there are a lot of food items - and it's over 500 pages. So that will be good.

message 210: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments It looks like tuna, capers and anchovies....
I haven't seen that yet, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

message 211: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I started The Old Curiosity Shop today. It's over 500 pages, but so far not many food items mentioned. I have enough to cover the slots however nothing really exciting yet.

I've struggled with reading the past couple of days. I've been very tired in general and I've been sorting out some stuff. I go back home to the UK on Tuesday which should be great for reading as it's another long day of travel. I have been trying to find a job back home and I've got a few interviews lined up so hopefully I will get something soon. Most of the jobs I applied for are part time so it shouldn't affect my reading much. One or two was full time so there may be some impact on my reading if I get one of those. I'll let you guys know if I actually get anything, but until then I will read as much as I can!

message 212: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments yea, capers. Don't see those or anchovies much at all in American books. Tuna really either.

Good luck Keely.

message 213: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments Ugggg...my audiobook Cross is only listed in Goodreads as Kindle and 299 pages. 1 page!!

message 214: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments That's so annoying when that happens!

I'm on the latter part of my journey back home. I've done that thing again where I have several books on the go. I'm planning to finish one of the audiobooks on the plane and I'm trying to plow through The Four Winds but I keep getting too sleepy to read much in one go. I'm determined to finish it before the 16th so we can get the BOM bonus thing.

I had an offer for kindle unlimited for free for a few months and it has The Night Shift BOM so I will be able to read both of this months BOMs, although one might go into next month.

message 215: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I've seen Tuna a few times in books I've been reading, but not anchovies or capers. I'm not even sure what capers are. I'm assuming they are a fish related thing. I started a book that is a retelling of The Little Mermaid so hopefully there will be some types of fish we can use from that and it would be even better if one or more of those bonus words show up.

message 216: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments Capers are these seed like things but I have no idea what kind of food they are used in

message 217: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I think they are fancy. My husband puts them in fancy food :)

I'm listening to The Night Shift now - I think it's pretty good.

message 219: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments It looks like they are used in Spanish and Italian food

message 220: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments I put capers in salads and pasta sauces sometimes. Also my partner really likes to put capers and anchovies on pizza.

what fancy food does your husband put them in Melissa?

message 221: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments I am in the middle of a few nooks right now, I have got the cold right now and have been indecisive about what to read when I have time to read. I am hoping to finish them on Friday as I will have a free day.

message 222: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I hope you feel better soon Heather!

I had my first interview this morning and got offered the job then and there! I didn't accept straight away as I have a few more interviews and the woman understood. I have a video interview in a couple of hours which would be a full time position and something I am more interested in, but it's nice to know I have a backup.

I've got a lot to sort out today so I'm not sure much will get done on the reading side, but hopefully I'll have some time this evening to chill out and read.

message 223: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Congratulation on your job offer! What a great way to start the job hunt!

message 224: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I am reading a memoir of a cook! His grandmother just used capers!

message 225: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments Nice! We need all the bonus' we can get.

We are looking good on the meal front. I know a lot of them aren't complete yet but we are up to 67 and we're not even halfway through the month!

I really underestimated how busy I would be this week. I am making very slow progress on my books, but I am still hoping to be done with the three I have listed by the end of the weekend. And then I'll work on some new books as well as a couple I have started, but didn't get far enough into to put on the spreadsheet yet. I'm really hoping things will calm down here soon and I can get back on track.

message 226: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I must rant to someone. That job I said I was offered on the spot, I had an email this morning say I WASN'T successful. I didn't accept when I was there as I said I had a few more interviews so I asked if I could let her know in a few days and she said that was fine. I tried contacting them but was told she wasn't around at the moment so left a message. I'm not sure if something I said at the end made her change her mind or it was a mistake.
I feel like I really messed up the interview for the full time job so I was really wanted this other one to fall back on. Hopefully I will get a call back and get some answers.

message 227: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments I hope you hear back from them, it is rubbish when things happen like that. My friend had accepted a job offer and the company just stopped responding to her. But she found something even better. Hopefully you find something you really want too.

message 228: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments Thank you Heather. Maybe my other interview didn't go as bad as I thought and they surprise me with an offer. I'm not getting my hopes up though. I have another job I'm waiting to hear from which would potentially be more hours and probably better for me in terms of experience.
I'm sure I'll get something eventually, I'm just annoyed that I was offered the job but then rejected without any explanation.

message 229: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments So I had a bit of good news not long ago. I interviewed at a hotel yesterday. The hotel chain has two hotels in my nearest town and apparently they are both fighting over me. They are looking for someone to do night shifts which I am okay with. The lady I saw yesterday said she needs to meet with the other manager to come to a decision. I will find out Tuesday morning what I'm going to be offered!

Good luck! It sounds like it could be a good opportunity!

message 231: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I finished Yes, Chef which had capers and anchovies. I added these to our meals. I'm trying to get creative with some of the names, but please edit and change any that you want!

message 232: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments Thank you Melissa, and well done finding both of those in one book!
I'll try and help make some of our meals sound a bit more exciting if I ever get more than a free half an hour to look at the spreadsheet!
I started listening to The Jungle Book. It's not the longest book, but I'm they go fishing at some point for them tunas!

message 233: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments Melissa wrote: "I finished Yes, Chef which had capers and anchovies. I added these to our meals. I'm trying to get creative with some of the names, but please edit and change any you want!"

That was lucky to find both words in the same book!

I am planning to start the second BOM book this evening. Last night I was home alone and read until the early hours of the morning. I am really enjoying the Mad Ship, I think I will finish it in the next few days.

message 234: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I'm about 10% into the second BOM. I'm still waiting for my hold on the first one to become available. I think it said the 18th. Both will be ebook copies so I will be listening to audiobooks around them too.

message 235: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments Not to be a negative nelly...but we have 5 missing U letters: baguette, jackfruit, walnut and katsu curry. Can we change the Katsu Curry to something else? The S can go down to spaghetti and I can figure out another way to finish off Worth the Risk.

Even with all the crazy names in Zercy and in Sky and Breath, there are none with a U

message 236: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments For Katsu curry; maybe change to garam masala (I lost it but think that's what it was)
or saag paneer
chilli powder

message 237: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I have Ulysses waiting to be listened to. It would cover one of the U's. I agree that 5 is a lot. Ulysses has MANY characters just by looking at the book page on here. It's 700 pages so we'd get 12 letters and there are lots of A's so it would help with any of those, maybe some other vowels too.

message 238: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments There are only two now. I just added letters before I read your message, Alicia. I didn't see the baguette and I didn't have one for the curry part of Katsu Curry from the books I am currently reading. When I finish the current books I am reading I can read another book that works for at least one u letter. So I think we are fine.

message 239: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I managed to fill in a lot of the letters we needed with Ulysses. Unfortunately there were no I's I could use which we still need 4 of as well as a U and a Y.

message 241: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments Now I'm curious. What is paneer? And gammon

message 242: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments Phew, it's just 1 U, Y and I now :-)

message 243: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments Alicia wrote: "Now I'm curious. What is paneer? And gammon"

Paneer is a type of Indian cheese and gammon is a piece of pork.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I'm going to be home alone on Saturday so I'm hoping to have a good reading day.

I got offered the job at the hotel doing night shifts. Only two nights to start with but she said that there is a lot of extra hours available at the moment. I may be able to get some reading done during those nights and I doubt there will be much for me to do, but they might have tasks set up to keep me busy on shift. I don't know when I'll be starting yet.

message 245: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I’m listening to a Y book now. Should be done in a couple of days.

message 246: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I began Ulysses today. I will try to finish it in the next few days, if not then I will spend saturday listening to it.

message 247: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments You’ll have to let us know how the night shift goes at the hotel!

message 248: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I will do, I think it will be at least a week until I start though. I think to switch my hours around (as I'm on a "normal" schedule) I might just have to stay up as late as I can for a few nights, which could mean some nights of reading are coming up.
Have any of you had to switch your hours around and if so do you have any hints for me on how to do it?

message 249: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments I just learned that capers are in Muffaletta sandwiches

message 250: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I dont know what that is, other than it being done sort of sandwich.

I just started The House on Needless Street and found Anchovy! Now it's another reason to finish it quickly other than it being a BOM. I would like to have it finished by the end of the weekend, but we'll see how things go.
