Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments ill go through and work it all out if need be.

Ugh, the little notebook that I write words down in, fell between the gap in my recliner and is either stuck still or fell where I can't find it. So I will add my meals in as soon as I get that located. LOL!!!

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments I have bread and pepper (as in salt and pepper) in my list, when I catch that notebook...

LOL
Get the broom ready... Whenever I go searching for things like that well,... there's a lot more there than I bargained for....

Heather Milne | 479 comments Can I make a request, to whoever wrote in the blanks or where I have put numbers? You don't need to write that my items still need a location as I have left it like that on purpose to type it up for when I have access to the books. It makes it harder for me to spot the ones I still need to look up. Thank you.

By the way, they are all done now, just the earl grey from the Outlander needs a location. I will find it later today when I work out where the notebook is.

I started out with a notebook but realised pretty quickly that it wasn't the best option for me, I read a lot when I am out and kept forgetting to bring it with me, or losing it haha. My phone is my friend for this challenge. :)

message 106: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments Ok all my foods now have locations attached to them :) sorry about the delay.

Melissa | 1895 comments Just finished Crown of Midnight. They didn't eat much. Mostly fighting monsters! I spelled out water for tea, but I din't have another t for the tea, so if anyone has extra letters, my water could use a bit of tea :)

For the spell out of tea, you cannot do water plus tea, as it is a min of two letters and a max of four letters.

If the book you read was over 500 pages we can use it as a non-alcoholic drink or you can spell out tea and complete the meal :)

message 109: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Hmmm I thought it was a minimum of two ingredients…. And a maximum of 4….

message 110: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments But I can put in tea :)

message 111: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments Melissa wrote: "Hmmm I thought it was a minimum of two ingredients…. And a maximum of 4…."

If you use it for the spell out, it is also the max and min for the letters used.
"So up to 2 scavenger words / spell-it out letters per book >50 pages and <=160 pages
up to 4 scavenger words/ spell-it out letters per book >161 and <=300 pages
up to 8 scavenger words/ spell-it out letters per book >301 pages and <=500 pages
up to 12 scavenger words / spell-it-out letters per book >501 pages"

This is from the questions as well, that relate to spell outs might be helpful for clarity about spell outs :)

"Q: I just want to clarify the minimum/maximum limits for spell outs. For coffee, it is 1 minimum and 6 maximum. Does that mean we cannot spell cappuccino? And if the minimum is 1, does that mean we can spell a word with 1 letter? Or am I just not understanding?
A: You wouldn’t be able to spell out cappuccino but you would be able to find it in a scavenger hunt.
A spell it out of one letter wouldn’t be a word related to coffee so that wouldn’t work. But you could scavenger hunt the word coffee and then that is fine as one word."

Heather Milne | 479 comments How is everyone's reading going? I cannot believe how many food items are mentioned in the books I read. I feel like food is very normal and I had just never focused on it before this challenge.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I've been very busy the past couple of days so I haven't been able to make much progress. We are planning to stay in tomorrow so I'm hoping to finish one of my audiobooks and maybe make some progress on an ebook.
I keep finding lots of things like water, tea and coffee. Not really anything more useful like vegetables yet, but still plenty of time.

message 114: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I have been trying to add some of the stuff I found onto the spreadsheet, but the wifi here is terrible at the moment. It let's me in for about a minute and then kicks me out for about 5. I'm close to giving up. We are going to the new house tomorrow which now has wifi so I might take my laptop and spend a bit of time adding things then.

message 115: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I'm giving up for now. I hope what I did manage to do saved.
I've only got a bit of The Rose Code left so I will finish that tonight. Because it is over 500 pages, we can use it for some drinks/desserts. They drank quite a few different alcoholic drinks.
I'll try and sort some of it out tomorrow.

Oh no, don't worry we still have time to log the books/food. It is very annoying when the internet is not working correctly.

Are you moving in tomorrow?

message 117: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments I am planning to read some bigger books after finishing the Practical Magic series, so hopefully, I can help with the drinks/ desserts as well.

message 118: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments We're going to see what the state of things are tomorrow. They found the boiler tank had been leaking so that needs to be replaced which means there is no hot water (not that there was a bath or shower installed when we last went). We were hoping to move this weekend, but it's not looking likely unless the builders have performed miracles since we last went.
I'm off to Norway for about 3 weeks to visit my boyfriend from next Thursday so mum would like to be in the house before that so I can help set some stuff up before I go and also to help with the cat.
The builders probably won't be working on Monday now as it is going to be a public holiday here in the UK for the Queen's funeral so I can't see us moving before I go away, but we will see.

On the upside, my boyfriend is very much aware that I am doing this challenge and that I want to read a lot while I'm there. As long as I give him some attention and watch things or play games with him occasionally, he's happy to go do his own thing while I do mine the rest of the time.

message 119: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments Fingers crossed that the builders are able to do it and you can help your parents, it is such a shame when there are delays whilst moving.

The comment about your boyfriend being aware of the challenge made me smile. I can remember when I was still doing long distance with my boyfriend, our visits were quite full unless one of us was working or studying. I didn't have that much time to read. I hope you have a nice time :)

message 120: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments Thank you. When I had told him I had signed up for another team challenge he was initially all "Urgh" about it, but then he realised it wouldn't affect him that much as we would be apart for most of it. We're both happy to just stay in and chill out together. He lives in a fairly small town so there isn't a great deal to do nearby anyway. And while we both enjoy each others company, we also like to have our alone time. He also works, only part time at the moment, but it's still a bit of time I'd have to read.

I hope you all have a good weekend. Mine is set to be a busy one, but with a few hours travelling about in the car (as a passenger) and I am fortunate enough to be able to read in the car so hopefully I'll make some really good progress on at least one of my books.

message 121: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments That sounds nice.

I am watching the Lord of the rings films and maybe the hobbit ones too this weekend with my partner. So not sure how much I will read this weekend.

message 122: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Sorry to have not been around much. I’m gonna try to finish up about five books this weekend And I’ll read the comments!

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments The notebook finally fell out of the crevice in the chair it was stuck in so here I go...anyone know why my books aren't linking to Goodreads? I have been having to add the link myself

message 124: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I had adequate internet and a little bit of time to add a few meals from my longer book I finished. There's still more to do when I get more time (and internet). I also added the books I'm currently reading to the spreadsheet.
And I admit that I totally forgot about the BOMs. I'll do my best to read them both by the end of the month, but I might only manage one and the other might roll over into next month.

I have a loooong day of travel on Thursday. 3 fairly short flights and several hours between each one, which will be plenty of time for reading. I've got both audiobooks and ebooks ready. Is it strange I'm kinda looking forward to sitting around reading in the airports?

I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend!

I did not think they were meant to link automatically, I have also been doing it myself 🙂

Also yay for finding your notebook, I hate when things disappear like that.

That is good, which BOM are you reading, I read The Four Winds and it made me feel very emotional. I thought it was a very good book and it has made me want to read more about that time period in American history.

I think next month I will be reading both of the BOMs as they both seem to be good, and I already have the ebook of one of them. I have even volunteered to do the DQ's for one of them 🙂

By the way, talking from experience I loved travelling and reading in airports. But I hope that your airport experiences go smoothly. In the summer I was travelling from the Netherlands and they are massively understaffed which was causing large lines at security and now it is even worse with flights being cancelled. I know from my family's experience it varied at the UK airports, they were travelling from different airports. Fingers crossed you have a relaxing journey and plenty of time to read!❤️

message 127: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I will be starting with The Paris Apartment as that one needs to be done sooner and then I will hopefully move onto The Four Winds.

I haven't had a chance to looks at next month's BOMs yet, but I will see if I can get a hold of those too.

I'm only taking carry on luggage this time as I have a lot of stuff at my boyfriend's place so I won't have to go through security several times which will be nice. I had a bad experiance once with a delay causing me to miss my next flight (there's a whole story there including trains not running and the bus replacement breaking down). So I make sure I have lots of time between flights incase there is a delay.
I really hope it all goes smoothly too!

Missing flights is annoying my partner decided to save some money when flying over to see me once by changing in Paris, then missed his connecting flight because of delays. He had to get another three flights to get to me 4 flights and he was the last plane to land that day because it got very foggy at night. He was nearly landing in Inverness, it was a mess for something that he could have just got a direct flight that took an hour and a half.

I am sure your journey will go smoothly 🙂

message 129: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments That sounds like it was a fun day. Sometimes it's better just to keep things simple and spend a bit more money.

I've done the journey enough now that I know my way around the airports so I could easily run to the next plane if needed, but it shouldn't come to that.
Since that one time where my flight got delayed making me miss the next one, I vowed if it happened again I would just spend the night at the airport or try and get in a nearby hotel. It was way too stressful and by the time I got to my bf's house, it was about 3am when I should have got there about 6pm the previous day.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I'm not sure if it has been done already but we need to have the area about our restaurant completed by the 23rd.
I'm not very good at that sort of thing but I could try and think of something in my travels tomorrow if needed

message 131: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I've put something in the box for now. It's not the best and I will not be upset if someone comes up with something way better, but at least we have something in there now. Like I said, I'm not the best at that sort of thing.

message 132: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments I am reading non-fiction, I am hoping that it mentions food somewhere but I doubt it so even though it is worth 4 letters I may only have 3 with spell out :( Maybe not the best choice for this challenge.

It is shame non-fiction does not have characters. Is anyone else reading any non-fiction?

Yes! I love non-fiction. I try to read one a week, but HA, my reading is pitiful right now!!
I just read The Woman They Could Not Silence: One Woman, Her Incredible Fight for Freedom, and the Men Who Tried to Make Her Disappear which was amazing. It's by the author of The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women which was also amazing. Not much in food. Near the end they have a picnic or something, and I had to stop the book to write it all down! But I didn't get enough to cover the amount of pages it went for, so I hear you.

message 135: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I'm going to scan Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board for a papaya or something. That book was okay. Some of my students at school are reading it.

I'm working through The Paris Apartment. It's definitely a quick read,... although it's taking me weeks (I'm frustrated with my reading speed these days....)

Melissa | 1895 comments Alicia wrote: "The notebook finally fell out of the crevice in the chair it was stuck in so here I go...anyone know why my books aren't linking to Goodreads? I have been having to add the link myself"

Hmm... not sure? I usually add the link.

message 138: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I haven't been able to check, but I believe Heather added/changed a bit of our blub so I can't take all the credit.

And you reminded me about The Paris Apartment, I totally forgot about it again. I read while waiting for a flight and then on the plane until I felt too tired. I get what you mean about it being a quick read. I think I prefer the short chapter style as it makes me go "just one more" a lot so I actually read more in one go.

message 139: by Heather (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments No, I left it the way you wrote it. I think what you have done is fine.

Oh, I really want to read that book, it is on my non-fiction to-buy list. I am hoping to get it for Christmas:). I read The Radium Girls a couple of years ago with my friends and found it very interesting and her writing very nice.

message 141: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I just added quite a few more meals. I hope you don't mind that I went ahead and used some of your spell-it-out letters to help fill in the curry I was making.
I'll add some more stuff later. I've still got quite a few letters to get creative with.

message 142: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments Well crude, work has been so crazy that I didn't get all my books used up...so are we starting round 2 as of the 24th? And do the books we didn't use up in round 1 just stay that way? I don't remember that part from two years ago.

message 143: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments I kind of answered my question, Round 1 ends Sept 30. But are we allowed to keep adding to the restaurant after the 23rd for Round 1?

message 144: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments As far as I'm aware, we can keep adding until the end of the round on the 30th. The only thing that needed to be done by the 23rd was the description of our restaurant.

message 145: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 66 comments that makes more sense. Especially since I couldn't find anything over on their side except that round 1 was Sept 1-30

message 146: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I finished The Paris Apartment. It was okay. I added vinegar to #30 fish dish, and am working with finding the other foods.
Yes, PLEASE, use my letters!!!

message 147: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Keely, if you find sugar or cream in The Paris Apartment, let me know. I can add it to my coffee :)

message 148: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I'm not sure I'm going to manage to finish The Paris Apartment in time. I'll do my best but I really need to finish the others first. I did find cream in one of my books and have yet to use all the words for that one so we can use that if needed.

I'll mess about some more now and see what I can come up with.

message 149: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I have now used up most of the letters we had available, apart from some in one of my books but I am lacking any vowels. We do need an O and a U to finish two of our meals.

I've now used all my scavenger words for my books too. I may be able to squeeze in a short-ish audiobook, but for now I will just focus on finishing my already started books. Now I can read them without having to look for words, hopefully I will finish them quickly. I intend to spend my day reading.

I hope you all had a good weekend!

Oh, Melissa, I went and used the cream from one of my books I will finish but I left shop part blank as I didn't know what sort of coffee you were planning.

message 150: by Heather (last edited Sep 25, 2022 11:01PM) (new)

Heather Milne | 479 comments Meal 27: We cannot use Crown of Midnight to spell water for a non-alcoholic drink as it requires books with 500 pages. But you have "tea" and w and r to play around with. I hope you don't mind that I changed it.

Meal 59 has the same issue we cannot use Keely's "chocolate" as the word can only be used with frozen or fresh not DDC. If no one else has "chocolate" or something else to flavour the milk we can just serve a glass of milk.

To use it for the items listed DDC we have to have the meal category ANY.

Also, we are doing well. I should be finished Ships of Magic before the deadline. I am not sure whether to use it for letters or scavenger There are some food/ drink words mentioned so far including alcohol and some dessert things. I am planning to read a large chunk of it today so I should have a better idea. There are a lot of characters though so maybe the letters are better than the scavenger words. Let me know what you think.
