I tried to read Anne of Green Gables for Canada, and Corelli's Mandolin, a book I first took notice of in the mid 90s, and that I had penned as desirable to read. But I had to DNF both books. I am now slightly worried that I might not advance in this challenge.I like to discover new books via this challenge. But what use is it if these books prove to be unreadable. I might not take part in this, next year. It is too hard. The books are all weirdly written. I think I have strayed in hostile waters, the same way a bacterium ventures into penicillin.
These books are incredibly boring to me. If genre fiction did not exist I would not be a reader. I am ready to admit defeat and sigh my malcontent away. So many horrible books, with their own legion of fans. How do these books get read? I do not understand this level of masochism. This is what is called subjectivity.
Books unlike food, can have acidic prose for takers among readers. Poison or acid is off the menu in foody matters. Not books, where are large variety of them exist to cater to weird tastes.
This might be my last post here. Last but not least, I tried to read Letters to a Young Poet, with disastrous result. Rilke the world famous poet, writes like a bus conductor in his letters. His thoughts are waspish and vapid to the point of boredom. That's it. I think I have had it with this challenge.
