Review I really enjoyed getting to know Piper and Ollie a little bit in book one. I knew going into this there would be lots of secrets surrounding them. Some were good and some were ehhh.

Piper is the broken girl who doesn't show it. She helps others to make a part of herself feel whole. She's got a great group of friends, but her home life is lacking.
Ollie is the life of the party. Everyone wants to be near him. Girls fall at his feet and guys want to have what he has. Don't let him fool you, behind that carefree smile and attitude lies hurt. Seems to be the only thing that can calm his demons is one sassy red haired beauty.

She thinks she's calling the shots, but he is ready to flip her world upside down. To show her that he sees her... all the broken and beautiful parts.

Review: This is by far my favourite in the series so far. Unrelated: I think this is the first book I've ever read with a main character that shares my name. Kira was relatable. I liked her "den mother" role and that she had some baggage in the form of the translator and also (view spoiler). Aehako was a perfect match for her. He was flirty and persistent and oh so sweet and reassuring. Every time he called her "Sad Eyes", I melted a little.

Review: This is a fun little new series. I liked this book. There were a few things that dragged for me. The two main characters kept talking around each other regarding their real feelings but never fully spoke TO each other about them. Their friend group called them out on this more than once a chapter form about 65% of the book onward so I started skimming in some places as it was bit a repetitive. There was some predictability in the plot to the MMC not fully sharing why he'd broken up with his ex and then assuming the worst with Hannah just based on some photos in the media. Again, it's a little over written. I'm sure it's true to life, it was just "how far into the book will this happen" sort of thing. Character development wise though I liked that the author began with both sides of the story having major stereotype blindness and these stereotypes were pretty quickly chipped away. Not only that, but as they were, the characters felt shame over previously holding and voicing the stereotypes. Yes, bit the MMC and the MFC were called on their sudden change of attitude. I also enjoyed that neither one of them ever thought of pushing one or the other to give up on their dreams. They knew that their lives would be excessively difficult if either or both of them were successful. They also recognized they were the most miserable they had ever been when they weren't together. Placing the themselves as a couple first in their "open space" was a priority and having understanding about each other's work calendars and commitments was great to see. There were some bigger editing issues that stood out more than usual such as character's outfits changing in mid scene. And side character's name spellings swapping back and forth within scenes. Larger things like this stand out to me. The costume change in the scene really bothered me as the scene starts out with the female describing her clothing choice as "emotional armor" for the day and then she and her guy have walked from a cafeteria to college building without any other stops and he's waxing poetic about her choice of boho dresses, tights and converse. Which - is an awesome combo, but in the cafe she was slouchy sweater, 90s patched and ripped jeans, and heavy soled Doc Martins. Also an epic outfit. Just... which 90s artist IS she in this chapter? Tori Amos or Jewel? (Continuity issues in movies drive me up a wall as well. Two of my friends won't watch movies with me until I've seen them at least twice so I can get all my inconsistency peeves out of my system.) The world building is great. The character building is great as well. Another series which focuses more on the human side of shiny flashy career, what it feels like to work so hard and have people start pushing in on you to be in that bubble with you and also the pain of working that hard and having to make large risky choices about your career which could send you up to the pros faster or doom you to the minors for years and years. I'm enjoying the new trend of "we WORK for this and it ISN'T fun"

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Hey ladies! Thanks for getting the reads in!
Kirsten, I loved Dear Mr. Brody!

Sorry I was silent for a little while my nephew shared his cold with me but it was also the first warm, sunny and cloudless weekend we've had all spring. I sort of just sat out in the sun and took a bunch of cold meds. Disconnected from the laptop. I'm a little sunburned. I'm a lot achy and tired, but it was worth it. I also was able to watch our son play in his first soccer game since October. Two goals, an assist and a PK. He's on top of the world.

M I hope your eldest had a great time this weekend with his interleague games and they played well and had fun! Hopefully the commute up and back were uneventful as well.

M I know you are reading a second book. I also have a quick-ish read I'm starting tomorrow morning as well. Tight Spot which ever one of us is able to finish and post first will be the 6th book to close out this task and post on the Q&A thread.

Thank you all again for jumping on these so quickly!

Little bit of crime,
reporting, snark, and liquor
between smutty scenes.

This was my shortest (at a quick glance) 150+ page book on my TBR. I love historicals, and though this wasn't especially good, I'm glad I read it. But I thought the 2nd one was out (GR says so), but it's definitely not, and the author seems to be on hiatus. But that's okay, because now I can read better books.

I got all my grading (so far) finished and cancelled class today, so I've just been reading.

Maggie - thanks! It was the best the boys have played.. they came back trailing 0-3 in the 4th. Then in the 6th the other team won with a walk off 😞 We've had a pretty rough start. Our coach and manager were kicked off the team and from little league 😲 The practices with them were mostly fun, playing catch. So lots of catching up to do and it shows, unfortunately.

Review: I'm annoyed with myself that I keep trying to give this series a chance. As with the other two previous couples in this series, it's just not good. It's shallow surface level fluff. Sex when you don't need it. Whiny females who pout about being overshadowed by the big bad footballers, but then also don't want their "precious privacy" invaded. All of the guys are 30 something fraternity brothers who somehow still manage to be Super Bowl champions. The woman have evil friends who sell them out to tabloids, everyone is hanging on by their fingernails waiting for the all mighty team owner to -- cut them? bench them? What angers me even more is that there are some stellar plot pieces in here that could make this series really shine and make it a stand out in the genre, yet I don't know if the author is too scared to commit to their talent or doesn't see the baseline they have built. I don't know. Similarly to another book I've read for this challenge a large part of me wants to take these characters by the hand, hug them and tell them I will write them the story they were supposed to have. But I can't. They aren't mine. Which annoys me as well. They DO deserve more. Oh! Weakest plot point? The evil department head who is trying to find a way to fire the poor first year teacher whose TWO brothers play professional football for (gasp!) the department head's fave team biggest rival. I can't eye roll hard enough over THAT one. I feel like I need to write an apology to all the footballers and all the teachers out there for that plot line. Just, no.

Review This book brought the heat! The sexual tension between Garrett and Mia was off the charts.
Voyeur/exhibitionist kinks take center stage in this one. Then throw in the taboo of falling for someone who should be completely off limits - you get something intense and beyond hot!

When Garrett stumbles upon a camgirl site one drunken night, he is shocked to find someone on there that he knows personally. He can't believe that his stepsister Mia is who he finds. He only saw her as a bratty sister - this woman on his screen is something new and fun - he shouldn't be feeling anything south for her, but what can ya do.
Mia is trying to find herself. She's stopped and quit so much in her life. Until she was able to find freedom in her sexuality while being a camgirl. She calls the shots with her body and it makes her feel empowered. She doesn't always know who is watching and how would she feel knowing that her "big brother" was enthralled by her and her body.

What happens when lines get blurry, boundaries are crossed and touches turn a bit dirty - well you'll just have to read this book to find out. Don't miss out on these two!

So far so good. It's setting up as an RH more than a Poly, but at least the base plot line is decent. Female character is better. The guys I'm holding out opinions on. It has a little bit of Monty Jay's Hollow Boys feeling to it as well as a little of Becca Steel's The Four to it. Dark secret society run by gross older men in the community. Tragic death passed off as an accident. younger sister is on a path of vengeance and take down to avenge her younger sister. The gentlemen assigned to "guide" her through the initiation process of the currently "all gents" club are murky at best and well layered at worst. I know I'm reading into a massive cliff hanger - but now the questions are where will be it be? Will the author only cover one relationship within the three? or will all three be started? Then there is the gut clench of "this book JUST dropped in February of 2022. How long till the next one?"
I may have to go back to the Crows of Crowne Point after this read.

Review: This was exactly what I want in a YA read. Both characters were sweet and clever. The story was layered and well developed. The romance was cute. Plus I remember the pressure to succeed and feelings of not fitting in during that time oh so well. It's nice to see that portrayed realistically. Sometimes it feels overwritten.

Rating 3.5/4 stars
Review This book caught my eye, then the blurb sucked me in. There are secrets, half truths and intrigue. Kept me reading and wanting to find out what happens. I've read a lot of bully/academy reads and this one was predictable in some ways and also new in others. This author made me a believer in this story and the characters.

Rosehaven Academy - where the Roses rule over all and can do no wrong. Thorns are the ones who shouldn't be attending there and don't have a say. They try to stay out of the way of the Roses, but that doesn't always happen. Sometimes a rose can long for a thorn... maybe.

Scarlett just lost her mother, moved to a new town to stay with her aunt and uncle, lastly enrolled in a new school. After being a well liked and popular kid at her old school she is thinking it will be like that again. Wrong. She happens to be a nobody in a sea of somebodies. She tries to fly under the radar with the help of her 2 new friends, but they can't always be there to help and shelter her.

She's caught the eye of one Rose in particular. Xander is the top guy at school. Talented football player, friend to most and charming in the best of ways. She was able to see a different side of him when she met him before starting school. The guy she met while out on a run is nothing like this a-hole she's going up against now. He wants her to leave. Doesn't want her there, but won't give her a reason.

Things happen to her and she doesn't know who is truly behind it or if she should put trust in anyone. She for sure isn't naive, has a bit of a backbone, but unfortunately her body conspires against her when she is around the sexiness that is Xander.

I was rooting for him, but then the end.... Dude! Why you gotta do that?!!? Guess I'll have to start book 2 to see if I can really like him or if I'm rooting for Red to knock him down a peg, to his knees where he belongs!

Review: This book kicks off a great series. You actually don't get too far into the real issues that the book opens with as the bulk of this book is building the relationships, the tension, and the intrigue. I am hoping this is a duet only, but I can see it being stretched to three books. Or more/ By the end of the first book it's a dark romance, but not necessarily a bully romance. Even though the premise is a bit overly popular - rich exclusive college with a super secret male only society which controls all sorts of wheeling and dealings in the outside world (Hello YALE!) - this book moves a little more into the territory Ninth House was written in. A high ranking family without male heirs had their eldest female pledge the society. She was killed in a "tragic accident" it appears the only tragedy is the poor attempt within her family to cover it up as an accident. Her younger sister (Eden) comes racing home to insert herself into her deceased sister's place. Other than the age difference and the personality differences - the girls could be twins. The author writes personal grief and soul searching into this suspense well. She also utilizes it in ways to further undermine Eden's trust in her two elder assigned "baby sitters" that the society has "gifted" her with. The story is written as a true poly relationship level with proper adjustment periods, acceptances of the concept of sharing, creating a romantic and deep bond between all of the partners involved. The relationship foundations are there, but it is a rough work in progress yet. There is a lot of push and pull with these four. It's not an RH and Eden isn't using her body as a weapon or a form of trade. In fact it's the opposite. Eden sees herself losing her identity, her core being, into her sister's identity. Eden then uses her body and the physicality with the guys as a way to reclaim her own self. She drives what and when she wants things. It's another interesting twist in this book and a subtle shift in female power and addressing female sex drive. Overall the characters are well defined. No one is two dimensional. We still don't know much about the two older men in the house (Alaric and Leo) they have pasts that are sprinkled around, but one seems to be outright devious and broken vs the other appears shiny and untouchable. Which makes me think the shiny untouchable one is hiding either massive hurt or massive corruption. The last gent in the romance mix is a grey area royal. Royal by birth, but not by accepted birth so no accession to the throne for Oliver. I'm waiting to see what twists his royal status will or won't play in the society. What they will offer him in order to bring in favors from his family. This series is more than likely going to be four books the more I think about what hasn't been delved into. The only complaint I have is that I found this book shortly after it was published so now I have to fill my time waiting for the author to finish the NEXT book.

Knox’s Granny is one of my all time favorite Pippa characters. My husband’s phone has a Parker Parker Elliott problem. I’ve posted a few of his autocorrect “problems” to Pippa’s group 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I understand. Tight Spot was horrible for me our last read.
McHottie is hysterical. The girl band members are some great characters. The Thrusters are my favorites of her books, however the Fireballs are edging up there. I will say that Pippa books have made my Google searches WAY more interesting than most of the other things in my life 🤣

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments I’m going with The Last Eligible Billionaire I haven’t read Hayes, Begonia, and Marshmallow’s story yet. I’m behind.

Kirsten | 238 comments I am so glad Kira reminded me of my Pippa love and we're reading her books! I got so hooked on MM that I basically stopped reading her (and others I love). It's nice to come back.

OMG, I sailed through this book! It was so funny and the puns in the book totally reminded me of how the brothers are in Meghan Quinn's Get Lucky series.

Task 10 - 51. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task. We chose Pippa Grant as the author

Hammered (Happy Cat, #2) by Pippa Grant
Hammered by Pippa Grant

Rating 3.5/4 stars
Review This was a super fun and quick read! Who knew that a hedgehog, an alpaca, a raccoon, a vespa, the so called town screw up bartender and a quirky blonde who loves auras, crystals and moonbathing would be so darn entertaining. Totally helped me waste this rainy day away!

Jace and Olivia, along with all their furry little friends made me giggle so much!
Sometimes taking a chance can shake your world up and make it worth living.

Careful, you just might get swept off your feet by these two and the fun shenanigans they encounter and make happen. It was never a dull moment.

I totally forgot that Ares Berger writes in Haiku and speaks in Grunt or gif!

This was from Ares in Pippa’s newsletter today. Her heroes and heroines were giving life advice.
Thought of you!

Believe in yourself.
And only choose the people
Who believe in you.

I’m happy you enjoyed McHottie ❤️

It’s the Clint O’Dell memes that I adore!
I think I have an alpaca Clint O’Dell meme in the bowels of my camera roll. If I can find it I’ll see if I can figure out how to post an image in goodreads.

Oh! And the ladies wrote Savannah’s story. It’s included in the box set of Happy Cat in Kindle.

I’m such a RomCom dealer 🤣
