Here is your next task!10. Read 4 books by authors who write under more than one name (Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb).
Books selected for this task need to be written by authors who write under more than one name. Authors such as Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb or Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle would work for this task. Please include a link to the author’s profile or website showing both names in your completion posts.
I don't think we ever decided on this one. I'd be fine with either of the two examples above. I'd also be happy with:J.K. Rowling/Robert Galbraith
Elizabeth Hoyt/Julia Harper
Meg Cabot/Meggin Cabot/Patricia Cabot/Jenny Carroll/Daphne Delacroix
Tessa Dare/Vangie/TessaD./Eve Ortega
Susan Mallory/Melinda Hammond
Marie Force/M.S. Force
I would be happy with any of the above. Or if someone has a favorite, I'm sure I can find a book.
I guess if I had to pick one I'd go with:Jayne Ann Krentz/Jayne Castle/Amanda Quick/Stephanie James/Jayne Taylor/Jayne Bentley/Amanda Glass/Anna Questerly
There certainly are plenty of options!
JD. Robb/Nora Roberts is also an option. I think I've read one of Jayne Ann Krentz books and liked it
Do we all have to read the same person? I'm not getting that from the prompt. I asked in Q&A for clarification
It's my understanding that we pick an author who writes under more than one name. And we each read a book by that author. Once we pick the author, each of us can choose what book we want from any of those pen names.
I have a book that I need to read by Marie Force. I read the first one and never had time to read the second one. I didn't know she went by two names.
I’m interested to see what MKat says! I had assumed we all read the same, but the wording is definitely unclear.
We can all read whoever we want as long as it meets the prompt. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

How book qualified: Nora Roberts also writes as JD Robb

Review: I think this is the first Nora Roberts book I've read (I've read one JD Robb) and I have to say I was not disappointed. I enjoyed Elizabeth, Abigail, and Brooks. When we first meet Elizabeth she is 16, almost 17 and just wanting to do something that isn't on her mother's preapproved daily plan. One fateful act of rebellion would change her life forever. She ends up on the run from the mafia. At about 25% of the way into the story we are introduced to Abigail living in the Ozarks. Abigail meets Brooks as he is the local police chief and her lifestyle has raised a few red flags. I enjoyed seeing her grow as person and their relationship develop. There are quite a few twist and turns, but it's easy to follow. I loved how it turned out in the end.

COMPLETION POSTTask 2: Read 4 books by authors who write under more than one name.
Book/cover link: The Boy Is Back, Meg Cabot
Page numbers with source: Kindle edition, 368 pages
How book qualified, with links or cover as necessary: Librarian note from the author's bio page "Meg Cabot AKA Jenny Carroll (1-800-Where-R-You series), AKA Patricia Cabot (historical romance novels)"
Date completed: 15 April
Rating/Review: 5 stars
There's a bit of Jane Austen's Persuasion in this sweet, funny espistolary novel from Meg Cabot. The 2nd Chances trope is not one of my favorites, but I loved it here. Written over 10 years after the previous book in the series, The Boy is Back is told exclusively in phone texts, emails, letters, product reviews, and recorded transcripts. I found it to be charming, warm, and really funny.
A note about the edition: I read the paperback version - it was the first time in years that I read a paper book! The first three in the series were available on audiobook from the library but this was never recorded on audio. The Kindle version was $9.99 so I purchased a very gently used paperback for about half the price. And after reading the reviews about the Kindle version on amazon, I'm so glad I made that choice. Apparently the Kindle version consists of screenshots of the hardcopy version. And they're really hard to read. So make sure to read the reviews before you purchase this!
COMPLETION POSTTask 2: Read 4 books by authors who write under more than one name.
Book/author: Not the Duke's Darling by Elizabeth Hoyt
Pages: 496 kindle first edition

Date completed: 15 April

I did not enjoy this book for many reasons, but I did see enough in the author’s writing style that I would read something else of hers, although definitely from a different series. I’ve heard good things about the Maiden Lane books.
There was way too much going on, so many sub-plots, that I didn’t know what to focus on AND it left little room to develop the romance between the main characters, leaving us with an insta-love situation. I think insta-love can be alright if the reader feels the connection between the characters, but I did not.
There was an intriguing backstory with a secret witch society that the heroine is part of (which is something that would usually be totally up my alley!), but there wasn’t much description so it ended up just being something else to cause confusion for me. Like what is the purpose of this group (the “Wise Women”)? What do these titles that keep being used (“the Macha,” “the Crow”) even mean? I was just confused. And never really got good answers.
I generally love a strong, independent heroine in historical romances, but the author needs to make it make sense within the confines of society. Her situation and many of her actions didn’t make sense or seem remotely plausible. It was distractingly unrealistic, and it was just another thing that made it difficult for me to finish this one.

Review: Wow this was a really good follow up and conclusion to the mystery that started in book 1. This one picks up 6 months after book one and Marcus and Finn's relationship is going strong. There were lots of twist and turns, I did not see this one coming or who was behind it all. We get to meet Marcus's brother Claude in this one. The character and side characters are well developed, even the dogs. Can't wait for the next book!

Ellie (Elatsoe) is a teenager, Lipan Apache, and someone who can bring the dead back to life (including her beloved dog). She lives in an alternate version of the US, with all sorts of paranormals including fae and vampires.
The book is well written and I liked Ellie very much. I was a little disappointed that I wasn't drawn into the story as much as I hoped. I think part of it was that the alternate world wasn't particularly well drawn, but mostly I think it was just me. Sometimes I resonate with middle school/YA and sometimes not.

When looking around for a book to read, Heather I noticed you gave the second Nora Roberts dragon book The Becoming only 1 star! I have it on my TBR because I enjoyed the first one. Should I not waste my time with the rest of the series? Why did you think it was so bad?
Hi Lynne! I really enjoyed the first one, but for some reason the 2nd one felt like everyone was too perfect. They didn't feel 'real' but rather like an old fairy tale where the characters weren't developed, but were just stereotypes. But honestly, it might've just been my mood at the time....

Whew! This is classic grumpy-sunshine for sure (I love that trope). But it took me a little time to warm up to Finn. His constant one-liners seemed a little too glib in the beginning. But as I got to know him better, I enjoyed his humor more and enjoyed watching Marcus warm up to him too.
Warning: cliff hanger
That's good to know! I was going through some personal stuff at the time and I think it clouded my enjoyment of the book.
I had forgotten how fast and crazy this challenge is! Trying my best to finish my book and post tonight. I need to pick shorter books.

Thanks for explaining. I will probably read it since I did like the first one so much. And then we’ll see if it’s a hit for me :)

Review: I believe this is a first read from this author. I really liked Savannah especially as the story progresses, she comes into her own, and her idea for her book. I guessed who was leaving the edits very early on. I would have liked their romance to be a bit more developed once they discover who each other are for sure. The ending also felt a bit rushed, so only 3 stars for me.

Review: This was a really well written story by Gilbert Baker who was the creator of the Pride flag that is now used worldwide. It encompasses his as well as many others in the Queer community. The books speaks of his activism and unwillingness to conform. The book is written is such a way that it feels like he's talking to you, telling his story. Would recommend for anyone looking for history on the LGBTQIA+ movement.

In the Company of Witches, Auralee Wallace

Date completed: 21 April

Sometimes cozy mysteries can be too light and cozy for me. That's not the case with "In the Company of Witches." There's more depth to this story of Brynn overcoming her grief after the unexpected death of her husband. It's certainly a paranormal cozy mystery, but it's also a story of family and Brynn's growth.
