Susan (jazzescrapper) | 329 comments OMGosh I just realized I never posted the week #5 book completion. I very sorry. I finished it in just a few days and made the completion post. I never hit the post button. I've been having a terrible toothache and it kept me up so much. I didn't know if I was coming or going a lot of the time last week. I never hit the post it button. I'm such an idiot.

I'm going right now to post that book right now. Sorry again about that😞 !

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi
Book-Under the Never Sky
Date Read- 5/4/22
Rated- 5 Stars
Review- I've had this book/series since it came out and always wanted to read them. If it wasn't for this challenge who knows how long this book would have sat there unread. This book was EVERYTHING I needed in a Sci-fi/fantasy book. I loved the badass MC Aria and I also loved Perry. The world building was amazing and I loved it had so much in this first book. Aria was exiled from her home. She was dumped out in the middle of nowhere on purposes. They figured since she lived such a sheltered life they didn't have to kill her she would die living outside of Reverie. She was told they would die if they breathed in the air outside of Reverie. She found she could breath. If the air didn't kill her the Aether storms would. Those are energy storms that can eviscerate everything it touches and it comes down like a lightning bolt. She lived through it. If that didn't kill her then the cannibals would for sure. You get the idea. It was so packed with a great story.

Perry was is what they called the Outsiders, Aria thought of them as savages. He saved her but she wasn't sure if she could trust him.

If I say more I'll ruin this book I think everyone should read and enjoy. I'm so surprised I've never heard more about this book.

The Party Boy's Guide to Dating a Geek
Pages: 270
Read: 5/13/22
Rating: 3 stars
Review:
I just could not get into this book. It was nice to read something where the typical party boy was pining after the geek instead of the other way around but I did not enjoy the book as a whole. Ash's feelings felt a little fake and forced to me. I though it was also a little weird for him to be reading a self help book that was the same name as this book. It was just awkward to read.

Deven and the Dragon by Eliot Grayson Deven and the Dragon by Eliot Grayson
261 Pages

My rating: 4 stars
Review:
I have to say that Eliot Grayson has become one of my top read, one click authors and it is all due to her MM PNR romances that I have immersed myself in this year. She has a way with making the Paranormal side of things tolerable as I tend to loose interest if the storyline is too complex. She always gives us fantastic characters and that is so true for Deven and for Fiora.

I love dragon shifter when it is done right and the details Grayson put into this book were awesome. Fiora is sweet and almost timid and self conscious and he made me awweee so many times. All things that are sort of opposite to what a mighty dragon would be in my mind and I really actually liked that part. And Devan is charming and suave and charismatic and brought with him an aura that is light and funny. Grayson is always fantastic at including humor and an easy chemistry and lots of fun. This book was no different!

I really enjoyed the beginning of the story. It told us the back stories of Jasmine and Derek and it helpedbus understand the crazy situation they were in. As the story progressed it became all rushed and seemed unbelievable. I thought it was crazy they hadnt finally talked it all out until the last chapter and then it was a HEA. It is a quick and steamy read that has some lovable characters.

Although I highly enjoy this author’s books, I was hesitant to start this one for a while as I’m not really a fan of second chance romances. I should have known better, as the author did an excellent job of weaving this story together and I enjoyed seeing the romance evolve. Both MCs were fantastic - very likeable, complicated characters and with fun bantering between the two. Plus I’m always a sucker for a character who’s a big Star Wars fan. And while there was tension over Ronan’s future coaching plans, it thankfully was not too drawn out and I liked the resolution of it.

The pacing in this was definitely better than book 1, I liked the main couple and I also enjoyed the additional interactions with the "brothers". This series is over the top for sure but there is enough snark that it complements the darker parts. I look forward to continuing the series at some point.

Review- I really loved this book. At first it was a little slow going but only a chapter or 2. The dual time lines I think is what made it slow going but like I said it didn't take long and it was a story I had to know more about. Both time lines were good. Present day was slower then the past story. We had to learn about Caroline's husband's infidelity and the trip she planned as a 10 year anniversary trip was now ruined. Why it got better is because she took the trip without James, the lying cheating husband. She went mudlarking in the River Thames. Caroline discovers an old vial with some old ethcings on it and a bear logo. This brought her to discovering the second time line in the book to which I really loved and wanted to keep reading. It was about Nella who was the apothecary shop owner and Eliza who came in needing a poison for her mistress she was working for. The older story was so interesting and one I would love more of it.

Great book!!! I highly recommend it to anyone that is on the fence about reading it. It was such a great story and it makes me want to go mudlarking in the Thames or anywhere right now 😀

Review: I love this series, this is #6 - and have the rest of it on my TBR pile. Each is a standalone but this one is about Josie, a big time soap opera baddie and top model, and Hugh a top international rugby player. His father is killed and he has to care for his young half brother and sister. As a man about town he has no experience with children so on a steep learning curve. Josie is his neighbour - she helps him with his siblings but is in a relationship even though her partner is in another country. Many challenges to be overcome before they can get their happy ever after.

I had not read this book for a few years and it does feel a little dated to me now, but I will always feel nostalgic and love this book as it was the very first MC romance I ever read and it sent me on an obsessive multi-year kick of reading that genre. The dialogue between Tack and Tyra is far from stellar but the excellent romance between them makes up for it, both of which seem to be classic hallmarks of the author. Ultimately I know what to expect from a KA book going in, and there is something very satisfying and comforting about the best of her books, and this is definitely one of them.

Review: I really didn’t enjoy this enemies to lovers romance. Daisy's lifetime grudge against Lucas was ridiculously over the top, and her attitude made it hard to like her. She was a horrible character - so selfish, immature and unyielding. Fortunately Lucas was wonderful - she was so horrible that she didn’t deserve him, but he loved her anyway.
They have both qualified as doctors and both applied to take over the medical practise in their home town. So the feud notches up as Daisy is determined to be the sole GP. Yes there is a happy ending but Daisy didn’t deserve it.

The Marriage Bargain (Marriage to a Billionaire, #1) by Jennifer Probst
Book-The Marriage Bargain
Date Read- 5/20/22
Rated-3 Stars
Review- the book was just fine. It wasn't awful but also it didn't blow my mind or make my heartstrings flutter at all. In the back of my mind I knew I should have gone for the Christina Lauren book because I know I would have loved it so much more. This book and characters were just blah. The girl Alexa needs $150,000 to help save her mom and dad's house. Nicholas needs to be married and soon. A wife is what stands in the way of becoming a billionaire. Of course he came from a abusive family and one without any love. So of course he's sworn off ever being married BUT for a billion dollars he can stand to be married for the year the will says he has to in order to keep the money. Alexa was Nick's sisters best friend and still is and because she needs the money and she's always had a crush on Nick. She he can do this for Nick and now her family won't lose her childhood home.

The only problem is keeping feelings out of this year long marriage. Was it predictable? Most definitely it was. Do they have issues that break them up....YES (GOD FORBID an author make a couple that can communicate and be honest right out of the start) They fi d during that break up they can't live without each other.

It was short (the only reason I picked the book to begin with) but I kept falling asleep through it 😴 🙃 Maybe 3 stars was to high of a rating which is. Read at yourown risk 😀 it wasn't awful but it wasn't good either

The first book in this series was stellar, but this installment in my opinion was unfortunately a real miss. The sense of fun and actual laugh out loud humor from the first book was completely missing here, overshadowed instead by lackluster characters and in the case of the hero, a real a******. The running joke through the book was that the heroine called him “Dr. D***” and a more accurate nickname I cannot imagine.

I know Josh was supposed to come off as this tortured man who had blocked off his emotions because of his painful past, but usually an author writes some redeeming qualities about this type of jerk hero so that you still root for him. But there was nothing likeable about Josh in any way, and since I didn’t really care for the heroine either, this was a read I wanted over as soon as possible. The scenes with Kate and Miles from the first book were my favorites, and any reference to the Tire Depot and Kate’s obsession with its waiting room greatly welcomed. The first book was just so good and its story so inspired that my expectations for this installment may have been too high, and unfortunately it fell far short.

Review:
Marley Valentine is one of my top authors and when she announced she was coming out with a new LGBTQ series and also who would be the characters in the first book, I was so excited! If you have never read one of her books before you really need to. Her writing always invokes a ton of emotion and makes you feel it for days. And her characters stay with you. In this case I was so thrilled Frankie York was going to finally get his HEA. We met him in Ache and the loneliness that radiated off of him as a really small side character made me want his story. And his story is heartbreaking.

Frankie. He is such a good guy. I knew this going in because of the way he handled the messy situation with Jordan in Ache. Knowing how Marley writes her stories I knew this would be a hard road. Frankie gets some gutting news and has to return home to LA where he hasn't been in 4 years and never saw himself returning. Too many memories and too many hurts lived there with him. But he is a fiercely loving character and of course when his brother needs him the most he drops it all to get to him. He also has to return to his found family and try to mend the hurt he seems to think he invoked when he left for his own mental wellbeing. We learn he left because the love of his life Arlo Bishop broke his heart in so many ways and let addiction destroy their love and the only thing he felt he could do is close that part of his past and try to move forward. I in no way blame Frankie. Addiction doesn't just hurt the addict and there is only so many times you can stay and forgive. Frankie knew that time had come and gone and all ever wanted was to see Arlo healthy and living, even if he meant he didn't get the chance to be a part of that. I just love Frankie. He's amazing. And he deserved his HEA with his one and only love.

Arlo Bishop. It is impossible not to love him but it is also impossible not to hate him in equal measure at times. He is a recovering addict and of course with that comes so many complications. Life as an addict is never easy and shameful to know how many times you are begged to stop yet it won't unless you truly want it to. Arlo and Frankie both grew up in the foster system in there they found the family and loved ones they needed. And they found each other. They have a complex history. I admire Arlo for overcoming his demons and fighting for not only himself but for other addicts he can help along the way. He has a program at the gym he works at for the recovering and he now lives his life to stay clean and on the right path. Four years can change a person and when Arlo's family comes face to face with disaster he knows he will have to try to overcome his one demon he could not let go of, forgiving Frankie for walking away. I felt for him of course and I know what it is like to live with an addict and I know what it is like to see them fall over and over again. So this story hit home for sure. But I sided with Frankie more and hated that Arlo was so angry with him. No matter what I truly believed these men needed to be together once they learned to be around each other again.

There was a lot of good in this book. The description and emotion and depth and the chemistry. I do love Frankie and Arlo together, truly, but I was looking for more. Considering their past I wanted to see some more flashbacks to how they fell in love and I really wanted to see a little more pining. The family tragedy took up a lot more of this book than I was anticipating. Don't get me wrong I loved all the characters, Lennox, Samuel, Rhys, Remy, and Clem. They were all amazing and what Lennox is going through is heartbreaking. And this clearly set the stage for his story which I cannot wait for! But I almost felt like Arlo and Frankie were almost a shadow in their own book and that made me sad. Don't get me wrong all the pieces where there and the writing as always is amazing but I just felt like I was missing something I really needed. More pages and just a bit more of Frankie and Arlo mending what they lost. It happened really fast and even though the intimate scenes we did get where on par with Marley's books I wanted more of that as well. The ending was good but also felt really rushed. But you're never going to walk away from a Marley Valentine book and not feel like your heart was beat up a little and that was certainly still true for Unwanted.

I can't wait for the rest of the books in this series. I do consider this a wonderful read but again just a bit more would have taken this to a full 5 stars which is how I normally rate Valentine's books. I hope Arlo and Frankie and very present in the next books and I hope everything Marley has set us up for is epic.

I am absolutely stunned by the level of detail in this book as well as the emotion I felt while reading. I picked this up and literally could not put it down and read well past my bedtime.

Our two MC's are Jae Jin (J or as Kepler calls him Jin) and Kepler. They grew up together, Kepler is J's brothers best friend. They are very different men but have a lot in common and literally light up the pages when they are together. I loved the introduction, them being at the same college party surrounded by drinking and dancing and then they spot each other. From the minute J see's Kepler across the room you can feel the want and the desire there. J has always had this lingering feeling whenever Kepler is around and he can't explain it but knows it is there. Simkung: It’s Korean for that throb you get in your chest with some people...And this is the feeling J always gets around Kepler. I LOVED their first encounter and what it leads to, them gazing at the stars because that is a passion they both share. But it seems like so much more than that with lingering looks and seemingly hidden meanings behind their words and honestly this sets the stage for the rest of the book. I loved all the times Kepler seemed to want to linger in Jin's presence and I LOVED the willow tree scene, the sticky notes, the first night they shared, the reason Jin is only Jin to Kepler (SWOON) and all the extra sexy public sexy times. The first time they kissed? HELLO intense!!! Jin is sweet and understanding and honest and Kepler is all those things too but he has an air of mystery around him that I really liked.

I felt like all the supporting characters and side plots where good and important. Sometimes it is literally only about the couple and how much sex they can have. And while I want all the sex I also want there to be depth and things that are important to the MC's that doesn't involve the other. For Jin that was family, helping his mother and regaining his relationship with his brother, his best friend Dex, and his education. For Kepler that was his career path, Jin's brother Shin, his adopted parents and helping kids learn and achieve their dreams even if he only is one small piece of that picture. They are both very giving characters as well which I liked a lot. Again I cannot go through a romance without intimacy that feels real and in this book is was so real it was consuming. There is no doubt in my mind they belong together.

As this was only told in Jin's POV at times I wanted Kepler's thoughts but it also added to the Kepler allure. Not knowing what is going on in his head but letting his actions speak for themselves I think makes for a great character. The forbidden aspect of brothers best friends and also Kepler being Jin's TA excited me the whole way through. Kept me hooked and satisficed and if that doesn't say good writing I don't know what does. I truly enjoyed this book and I literally cannot wait for the next in this series! I hope we get it because that story and the characters it will include will make for just as an intense love. I feel it!

Review: This is the 1st book in ‘The embraced’ series. I have already read books 3 & 4 and loved them as much as this one. Luciana was brought up in a convent on moon island since a baby. She and her four ‘sisters’ were brought up together believing their family’s had abandoned them as They were born under the twin moons and each had magic. Luciana’s magic is seeing ghosts and prophecy. In the space of 5 days though, she found out her father is alive and loves her, and her twin sister is newly dead. Luciana has to marry ‘The Beast’ to save her family lands from the mean king. This is a big change for her, and not 1, not 2, but 3 assassins are trying to kill her and her father. Fortunately her new husband is no beast - he is a handsome and kind man with very dangerous powers. Can they both survive? There is love, friendship, betrayal, murder and danger. I loved Leo and Luciana, they were perfect for each other.
