Roz | 4528 comments Well, this year I'm going to kill off some of the series I've started over the last few years. Gotta get organized.
I wanted to call this thread "Series, You Die!" but decided to go with something less direct.

Roz | 4528 comments I'm going to try to kill the Cotton Malone series first this year.
Today I finished reading The Bishop's Pawn. I liked it a lot. It answered questions about how Malone got started working for Stephanie Nelle and became involved with the Magellan Billet.

Roz | 4528 comments I'm going to start reading Stillhouse Lake today. It fits in with the Yearlong Challenge too.

I want to get started on that series too, and have it down for Site 5. Maybe I'll give it priority for Badge 2.

message 6: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I actually started it last year but put it aside, so I'm starting it again. The best thing is that the entire series is available through Kindle Unlimited.

Roz | 4528 comments To start with these are the series I will concentrate on to finish because I probably have a better chance of killing them. All of the books I have left to complete are easily available.

Cotton Malone 16/16 💋

✔️ The Malta Exchange 💻 1/26/2022
✔️ The Warsaw Protocol 💻 2/18/2022
✔️ The Kaiser's Web 💻 3/3/2022

Sandhamn Murders 10/10 💋

✔️ Tonight You’re Dead 5/10/2022
✔️ In the Heat of the Moment 5/21/2022
✔️ In Harm's Way 7/7/2022
✔️ In the Shadow of Power 7/7/2022
✔️ In the Name of Truth
✔️ In Bad Company
✔️ Buried in Secret

Clifton Chronicles 2/7

Best Kept Secret
Be Careful What You Wish For
Mightier Than the Sword
Cometh the Hour
This Was a Man

Stillhouse Lake 1/5

✔️ Stillhouse Lake
Killman Creek
Wolfhunter River
Bitter Falls
Heartbreak Bay

I'll start with these and maybe as I finish (I hope) a series, I can add another to finish.

Roz | 4528 comments I'm almost finished with the Cotton Malone series. I've really liked all of them, learning a lot of history along the way. Once I read the last in the series, I think I'm going to miss him ☹

Roz | 4528 comments Series Finished 2022

Cotton Malone by Steve Berry 3/3/2022

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Great job, Roz!

message 11: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I used one of the Hannah Swensen books for a Yearlong site task.
So I guess I'll see how far I can get into the series. I've now read 11 of 28. Most of the time I only give them 3 stars but this one (#11) was more entertaining. I found it more fun to read, maybe because Hannah was having such a hard time with her diet and exercise program. I can identify. 😉

message 12: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I'm making headway in the Sandhamn Murders series and enjoying them. I have 5 to go (that means I've read half of them).

message 13: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished reading #6 in the Sandhamn Murders series ( In Harm's Way). One of the best so far.

message 14: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I'm moving through the Sandhamn Murders series quickly and enjoying all of them. It seems I haven't met a Scandinavian author I haven't liked. I should be able to finish the series in the next couple of months. There are only 3 books left.

message 15: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments I like Scandinavian mysteries too.

message 16: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Only 2 more to go and I'll be finished with the Sandhamn Mysteries. I almost don't want to finish them.

message 17: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished reading In Bad Company. I read it because I only had 2 left to read in the series but then I found that it qualified for Site 35 Souvenir in the Yearlong Challenge. Woo hoo!

I'm moving on the last in the Sandhamn Mysteries to kill off the series. It'll be sad to see it go, but I'm sure there'll be more in the future.

message 18: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished reading Buried in Secret, officially killing of the Sandhamn Murder series. I'm sorry to see it done for now, but I know it'll be back. These main characters have a lot of issues to resolve.

message 19: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished reading The Bullet That Missed today. It's the last book in the series so far (only 3), so I'm counting it as an official kill. That makes 3 series killed.
That's a 4th one in the works but it's not coming out until some time in 2023. I'll read it as an orphan.

message 20: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished reading Long Shadows from the Amos Decker series. I had designated the series done in 2020, so this is an orphan. I have the feeling that there will probably be more. Happy, happy.

message 21: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Always good to have orphans to come back to to revisit those great characters we met over the years.

I still have a couple to catch up on before the end of the year and the excitement of next year’s Yearly Challenge takes us over. 😊

message 22: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished reading Murder at Wedgefield Manor and Danger on the Atlantic this past month. I'm declaring the Jane Wunderly Murders by Erica Ruth Neubauer officially killed. The next installment comes out in March 2023 and will be treated as an orphan.
That brings my total kills to 4.

message 23: by Roz (last edited Dec 07, 2022 04:11PM) (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I read The Hunt. It's the last book (so far) in the Decker/Lazarus series. I'm treating it as an orphan. As disturbing as many parts of it were, I still liked it, just not as much as the others.

message 24: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I found that all the books (I think) that I have left in the Hannah Swensen series are available through Kindle Unlimited. So I finished reading Apple Turnover Murder today. Meh. I figured out the villain to fast. Only 16 left to read.

message 25: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments The Hannah Swensen book are such quick reads, I may just read them until the end of the year. I finished reading #14 today, Devil's Food Cake Murder and will move on to #15, Cinnamon Roll Murder now.

message 26: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hahaha! I can’t even make myself put the first Hannah book on my “first-in-series list”. 🙃

message 27: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I don't know what got me started with the series. Probably needed a food book for a task at some point. It's very "cozy". Then I just kept reading them. The characters are okay, non-offensive. And sometimes there are good recipes. Sometimes not so much, like the one where sour cream is an ingredient for chicken soup. That just sounds wrong!

message 28: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments They are great for challenges and topplers.

message 29: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Another Hannah Swensen bites the dust. Finished Cinnamon Roll Murder!

message 30: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments And another. Finished Red Velvet Cupcake Murder.

message 31: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments And another Hannah Swensen is done: Blackberry Pie Murder.
I'll probably finish one more this year (they go fast) and save the rest for next year. I can fit at least one into the new Yearlong Challenge.

message 32: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Finished reading Double Fudge Brownie Murder. I'm going to have to try the brownie recipe. It sounded delicious.

message 33: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Better save one for task 10 on Puzzle 9 for the yearly challenge. :o)

message 34: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Nothing to worry about there. I have plenty left.

message 35: by Roz (last edited Jan 01, 2023 01:18PM) (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Well 2022 came and went and I hardly put a dent in my long list of series books. I have to do better in 2023, maybe be more selective about the series I want to finish and the ones that are too "meh" to continue. The problem is that once I've invested so much time in a series, it's hard to stop.

Btw, I baked the Double Fudge Brownies and they were unbelievably!!
