I just hope my driveway melts while it's still this warm.
Well, I'm not waiting for Spring, but for an actual Winter, not that thing we've got in the middle. It's 6C here, too warm, but it'll freeze this night. Last Winter I had a lot of wild birds in my garden who came to feed, but this year an ocasional robin and the usual blackbirds, but these 2 are a couple who have their nest here every year.The first month is almost over and I'm way behind on my reading. I wanted to do the group read for 'Piranesi', but I don't think I can fit it in anymore this week. Studying is taking more time at this moment.
The weather in Grand Prairie and the Fraser Valley should not be the same!! At least all our snow and ice have melted already, but we did have that ice issue a couple weeks ago too. I stayed home, wasn't about to drive on the icy roads. We have such nice weather here this week that I have been out kayaking already. And I'm going out again tomorrow. Last year the weather was so miserable I didn't get out until April.
All the school buses were cancelled today because the roads were too icy.
I went to my first crochet class today and I'm quite happy with my day one progress. :) I have made what would basically be a small crocheted potholder. lol I'm glad we decided to take the class. My original project was taking forever because I was taught incorrect stitching by a friend. This new correct basic stitch is proving to be much easier and faster as I get used to it. I certainly will have some practicing to do, but I may actually be able to finally finish a project.
@ Kristie What fun! I never learned to crochet. My mom was a knitter and taught me when I was little. She knits beautiful sweaters, scarfs and mittens for us every year - even though we live at the beach. lol
Years ago (30-40) I started knitting baby blankets for my friends and colleagues who were having babies. Now those babies have grown up and I'm knitting blankets for their children. I have 3 different patterns that I use. I love knitting and thinking about the person/baby the blanket will be a gift.
Has anyone seen the website "literary clocks?" It is the coolest thing. It tells you the time within a literary quote. I have the app on my phone. It's fun.https://literature-clock.jenevoldsen.com

That's so sweet, Jayme. Homemade baby blankets are the best gifts.
My friend that is taking the class with me is a knitter. She thinks knitting is easier. I feel like it would be harder because there are two needles to manage instead of just one hook. She says she wants to teach me how to knit, but I told her we need to wait until I have the crochet down so I don't get confused. So, some day I may be able to do that too. I'd love to be able to do both.

M..."If you get addicted, I suggest opening a Ravelry account. It is a bit like goodreads but for the fiber arts. There are great searchable pattern database there and nice personal space to take detail on your projects.

My friend that is taking the class with me is a knitter. She thinks knitting is easier. The advice I was given hen I said I wanted to learn knotting was to learn knitting continental as the way you hold the yarn is similar. With 5 years of knitting behind me, i agree this was sound advice.

It is overwhelming but it is a great ressource when you get use to it.
I hope you love crocheting Kristie. It is my very favourite hobby. Ravelry is actually a great place for newbies, there are lots of great free patterns with really good instructions. Not something you always find in traditional patterns.
I wish I could knit just to make socks, there is so much beautiful sock yarn!

I'm enjoying my little bit of crocheting. I once mad a baby blanket. Someone showed me how to make granny squares and I made a bunch of them. I didn't know how to put them all together though, so I just sewed them. I started it when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, but I ended up giving it to my best friend for her youngest son who is ten years younger. It took me that long...
Then about 20 years later, I had a friend show me how to crochet, but she was distracted and taught me the wrong way, so I started a project but it was taking so long to make to make progress that I put it aside. I now see why it was taking so long and I'm going to pull the whole thing out and start again. My new project is going so much faster with the correct stitches.
It's also fun to be learning with a friend. We text pics back and forth of our minimal progress and we're so proud of each other. lol It does make you want to practice even more and learn more.
That is so funny... I just started teaching myself to crochet (I got myself a free kindle book)... I am starting with just sc and want to do two color changes for a scarf.It is slow going because I can only do it 30-60 min every few days, but once it is done, I will try a new stitch.. then a pattern maybe.

We're getting a new front door fitted today and man, is it drafty here with a holed where the door should be! Not to mention the noise of drilling and hammering. The poor dog has gone back to bed to get away from it!Next week we're our bathroom converted to a wet room so that will be out of action till the tiler has done his thing.
My tumble dryer has given up it's ghost and the bit of the freezer that you pull the drawer open with with just broke off in my hand. EEEEEK GREMLINS
I think I'll go join the dog 😜

We ordered the door back in May but it was one delay after another - they blamed Brexit of course 🙄 I could have got it sooner in a different colour but we liked the pale green and of course that was the line with the biggest wait.
Anyway, it's up now and it looks great. Worth the wait and the chill factor. Hope I'll be as happy with wet room next week and then move on to the cursed appliances 😉
Doors must be the theme this year. We ordered 6 new doors and a new front door (this is the last bit of the house renovation) 1st of Oct and they finally came in the end of Dec. All the indoor doors are in, but Henry is waiting on warmer weather to install the front door. Our weather as been running 20 degrees below normal and we are excepting a big snowstorm tomorrow, so the front door will have to wait.

Awesome, thanks. :)I just went through a spam call blitz over Christmas, no idea how many numbers I had to block, it was ridiculous!
I had a weird spam thing happen this fall where I kept getting people calling and saying, "Your number is on my phone. You were calling me?" I'd tell them that I hadn't dialed out on my phone in days, so it wasn't me calling. One of the callers was from Vancouver who was an insurance salesman. He said that he didn't know if my number was someone looking for insurance so he called back. When I said I was getting a lot of these call backs, he explained that the spammers have a bot that phones and in the 3 seconds you're saying, "Hello! Hello? Hello?" they've got your number. They then use it to call elsewhere with spam calls. I stopped answering my phone after that unless I knew the number or they left a message.
Did you ever get those cruise ship spam calls?? Where you picked up the phone, it blasted a ship horn in your ear and then told you you won a cruise? Enough to drive a person crazy.
Yes, those were downright annoying!I accidentally called a spam company one time. I wasn't paying attention when the person answered the phone. It was "something Royal". I was calling the Royal Bank credit card division and I just thought they were offering a promo. I was almost signed up for a cruise before I realized something wasn't right. The guy was insulted when I put the brakes on. He said, "YOU called us." I replied that it was the ultimate in dialing wrong numbers. LOL!

This week I had a series of recorded messages from the border calling me about a parcel. Apparently I am in trouble. I do not know what as I do not listen long enough to hear. Of course, the message being in english and originating from Quebec towns and villages all over Quebec (not a single one near the US border) add a layer of credibility... not!!!
