That must have been a bit scary Kristie.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Stay safe Sharon! Hope everything passes you by with no issues.

Weird dreams seem to be the flavor of the month. I had a dream this week an academic from work was chasing me around London streets trying to kill me. In a campy, bad tv remake way, but still.

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 965 comments IT’S SPRING!

Kristie | 19123 comments Rusalka wrote: "lol no it's not!"

lol! Happy fall, Rus. :) I am so glad it is spring here. Do your change of season dates coordinate with ours? Meaning is March 20th your first day of fall?

I worked outside yesterday and ended up getting a little sunburned. I can't believe it's the first day of spring here and I already have a burn. I'm sure my dermatologist will appreciate when I go see her this week too. *facepalm* Maybe it will be gone by then and I'll just have to explain away the new tan lines.

message 409: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yay!! Spring!

I started drawing again yesterday for the first time in 8 months. I just haven't had the energy to do anything even a little cognitively demanding (outside of work), but Spring always gives me new energy.

I just came across SkillShare. Has anyone used it?

message 410: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments Nah, we keep it simple down here. First day of the month is the first day of the season. So Autumn started on March 1.

Although, March is honestly the best month of the year here. It's really summer and every festival and celebration in my city is in March, partly because of the weather.

It's really interesting if you look at the Indigenous calendar of seasons here, as they have 4-5 seasons depending where in Aus you are. And they make so much sense, compared to smooshing awkwardly seasons from the far north in the northern hemisphere on to us.

message 411: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We have meteorological seasons (March 1 for Spring) and astronomical seasons (today for Spring). I think the astronomical are used by most people as official, but I think meteorological dates make more sense.

message 412: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments So, when I finally get around to visiting Australia I need to go in March. Got it. :)

I've never used SkillShare, Peggy. I'm unfamiliar with it.

Again, depends on what part you are visiting. If you are visiting me, yes! ;)

message 414: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 1505 comments Have to agree with you Rusalka. March, April and May are my favourite months for weather. Usually the rains have finished by then. We get most of our rain here in south east Queensland in January February. Autumn is sunny skies, cool (ish) nights, stable weather. Winter here is much the same, just the temperature dropping for a month or so, and a few weeks of cold winds. Come on down!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Not feeling great lately, so I haven't been around much.

My daughter told me the other day about this book she bought and started reading: Cain's Jawbone. It is only around 100 pages, but they are scrambled and you have to put them in order to solve the mystery. It was published in 1934 and only a few readers have solved it. It made me curious.

message 417: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling great Sandra, hope things get better fir you soon. Hope all your kids are doing well. That book sounds fascinating, are you going to look for it? I wonder is it easily available.

message 418: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments It is actually in Z-Library, I had to look because I’m curious now too

message 419: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments I know it wasn't printed for a long time, but it is available now, at least in the US. She and her boyfriend both got a copy last week. I also saw a cool edition that comes in cards, instead of pages, so you can arrange and rearrange them as many times as you need.

I'd like to do it. I am thinking it is a good summer plan. I might buy it before that, though.

By the way, the only way of knowing if you solved the puzzle is to send your answer to some kind of organization, and they let you know if you were right.

message 420: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It sounds really cool!

message 421: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments That does sound cool! I think it's one you'd need a physical copy of to flip back and forth or rearrange pages as needed.

Hope you are feeling better, Sandra.

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I hope you feel better soon, Sandra. Hm, I think I'm going to look for the edition with the cards. It sounds so mysterious.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I feel the need to share that for the first time since COVID started, I actually went to a live event.

A friend and I drove into Vancouver (BC), went out to an Irish pub for dinner and saw the Celtic Tenors at the Orpheum Theater.

I didn't think I missed it but I really, really enjoyed going out to listen to live music. The opera songs they sang were my favourite but the one that stuck with me was "Red is the Rose". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ3li...

LOL! My first thought was how they kept it from sinking. :0)
(You can see the supports when they move the camera around.
The guys did not look to warm. Hopefully, they did not have to do too many takes.

Thanks for sharing, Dawn!

message 431: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We booked a trip to Porto, Portugal for the first 5 days of May. Very exciting! It will be my first time on a plane since the summer of 2019. Can't say I missed flying..

Also got another weekend away planned in May (for a concert in Antwerp, Belgium), a weekend in June with my family within the Netherlands, and 2.5 weeks to Austria in the summer.

message 432: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments That sounds awesome, Peggy!

I'm planning to visit my family in Uruguay this summer, and might take a couple of my kids with me.

message 434: by Saar The Book owl (last edited Mar 31, 2022 01:26PM) (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments You have nice plans coming your way, Peggy. Which concert are you planning to go to?

We were spoiled with warm, nice weather, but now we're having snow, hail and rain at the same time. Not to forget about the wind. Well, it's just Spring for a couple of days and only April. So, there will be plenty of nice weather later, hopefully.

message 435: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments There's snow here too, although not yet where I live. It may be white when I wake up tomorrow though. So weird, on Monday I cycled home in just my tshirt, today I was wearing my winter coat and a scarf.

The concert is Tool :)

message 436: by Saar The Book owl (last edited Mar 31, 2022 01:38PM) (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments Yes, it's weird, isn't it? I've finished work now, so heading home. Will see how it is outside now.

Oh, Tool, I loved them!

message 437: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Me too! We saw them not so long ago (feels like a year but was pre covid so probably 3 years ago). Rob really wanted to go again so we'll just make a weekend out of it.

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 965 comments HAPPY APRIL EVERYONE!

message 439: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments I noticed Janice hasn't been around for a while, then saw Rusalka is taking care of the yearly challenge, and I remembered about the medical procedure Janice had scheduled on April. If I'm right and that is it, Janice, I hope everything goes well. I'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes. Virtual hug!

message 440: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I'd noticed Janice absence too. Sending lots of e-love x

message 441: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments I had another stroke during the procedure. It was exactly one year to the day of the first stroke. I’m quite messed up this time and they won’t let me go home without intensive rehab. I’ve been moved to the Glenrose rehab hospital in Edmonton. They say my prognosis is good. Here’s hoping. I have limited access right now. The sooner I get home, the better. But it looks like I’m here for the rest of April.

I had been missing you, Janice. I am so sorry to hear about the stroke, that date seems bad for you. I feel a tiny bit relieved to know of the good prognosis. Really hoping the intensive rehab helps and you're back on your feet and out of there as soon as possible. Prayers and hugs. Hope your family is around to provide support and care.
