What Are You Currently Reading - 2022
Even though it's not horror, it sure is horrifying. Feels too close for comfort, like what we're seeing actually happening in the world to women's rights.

I love this so much! I actually listened to the audiobook & read the graphic novel before Neuromancer. So much better than the story they used for the movie!
LTJ wrote: "Just started "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson!"One of my all time favorites! I love the opening paragraphs of that story SO MUCH! Enjoy!
@Char: Wow, that's so awesome to hear! I've never read anything by her until now and I can see why she's considered a legend in horror novels. Her writing style is amazing and I'm not even halfway through this yet...
@Erin: Awesome! So far I'm enjoying it, looking forward to finishing it soon and well, happy reading if you get to it!

Sonja wrote: "The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco"I'm interested to hear why you think this is horror? It's a great work of art, an almost unbelievable story that has its roots deep in church history. I've read it five times and seen the movie twice. The movie is great, by the way, because it captures exactly what happens, shows us some details and doesn't deviate from the story. I wish you happy reading!
We don't care if what you're reading is horror or not. Please feel free to post whatever it is you're reading without regard to genre.

Maberry and Konrath are two of my favs! You've got some good reading right there. :)

The Two-Bear Mambo Only 35 pages in and I can't stop laughing. Love these characters and the dialogue is great.
I love Jonathan Maberry! I've read dozens of his novels & stories. He usually has Ray Porter narrate his audiobooks. He's awesome too! I probably won't be reading any club picks that aren't available in audio. It seems to be a common thing here, sadly.

Thank you, Wendy! I positively love Konrath's series! I am wanting to step into some of his other stuff as well. Maberry is definitely a new fave for me and want to explore more of his work as well. :)
Just started "A Good Marriage" by Stephen King with "1922" as a bonus short story I believe at the end!
Valley of Terror by Zhou Haohui. A strange, horrific police procedural/Chinese cultural ethnography/psychological whodunnit. Very different.
Quote of the author (paraphrase): "There is little comfort in hearing "You were right all along!" afterwards."

Dark Gods by T.E.D. Klein
and
The Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers
The latter is an old favorite I’m revisiting after many years.
I'm 55% through Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes (because I'm a HUGE Event Horizon fan) and will start I call Upon Thee by Ania Ahlborn next!
The Book of the Most Precious Substance by Sara Gran.First I've read her. Not sure if this is fantasy, mystery, horror, or some combination, but the first person narration has pulled me in quickly. Nice after bouncing off a couple of books I think I'd like if in the right frame of mind.
Penny wrote: "Hollow kingdom. It’s soooo good"This is one of my all time favorites! The sequel is good too!
Say hello to Shit Turd for me!
Christopher wrote: "
Falling Angel"
This is so damn good. Enjoy!
I'm reading Don Winslow's latest: City on Fire
The Last House on Needless Street. Trying to make it through and finish. I had such high hopes for this book but it just isn't doing it for me

For most of the length of Falling Angel I thought it was simply a pretty good Raymond Chandler pastiche-type novel, but then THAT. ENDING.
I am now on to Dark Gods by T.E.D. Klein....
The Pallbearers Club I got an ARC for this! It's very fun, as per usual for the author. Looking forward to reading it in paper after it's published, because there are margin notes that don't translate well as an ebook, lol.

It is a novelization of the unproduced screenplay rather than the actual unused screenplay, but nonetheless interesting.
