Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments In this thread you can post about the books you've read in 2021. What is the top 10 of the books you read this year (if you have more or less, feel free to post that)? Is there one you can't forget? What did you like about them? I'd love to hear about the books you loved this year.

I hope this way we can exchange some book tips

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I sense a theme here...lots of my favourite authors made it into this list. Also a couple of new to me authors of who I'll certainly read more books

My top 10...ehm top 12. How can I stop at 10? lol
(the books are listed in no particular order)

The Lighthouse - A heartbreaking story about grief with a touch of magical realism
The Hidden - I love the mix of thriller/mystery with folklore.
One False Move - this thriller is written by one of my favourite authors. Good plot with unexpected twists.
The Sweetest Charade - this is such a cute romance
Find You First - An interesting plot with unexpected twists. This is another of my favourite authors.
Undercurrent of Secrets- I like the mix of history and romance in this one. The book had a great location, namely a steam boat.
Bridge of Gold - This is the same series as undercurrent of secrets. I love the mix of history and romance.
For Your Own Good - This teacher makes every teacher you hated look good. This book surprised me in a good way.
The Love Hypothesis - Such a cute romance with an academic setting
Child of Light - Because Terry Brooks is my favourite fantasy author
The Wall of Winnipeg and Me - I did a reread of my favourite romance book. Ofcourse it ended up in my top 10 of the year.
All Rhodes Lead Here - Mariana Zapata is one of my favorite authors. This was a lovely slow burn romance.

The Lighthouse by Christopher Parker The Hidden by Melanie Golding One False Move by Robert Goddard The Sweetest Charade by Jadesola James Find You First by Linwood Barclay Undercurrent of Secrets (Doors to the Past) by Rachel Scott McDaniel Bridge of Gold (Doors to the Past) by Kimberley Woodhouse For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing The Love Hypothesis (The Love Hypothesis, #1) by Ali Hazelwood Child of Light by Terry Brooks The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments So, which books did you like? You can also just mention one if you prefer. I'm curious what people loved reading in 2021 and hopefully it will give me some ideas for what to read next

Meg (megscl) | 1073 comments I had a lot of excellent reads this year, but there were two that stood out in particular:
The Overstory and Cloud Cuckoo Land

Michelle | 185 comments Ugh! So hard to choose just a few! Some of my best reads of the year were:

Moloka'i - This book sucked me in and I fell so hard for it. Plus I learned a lot about the situation outside of the book because it really inspired me to learn more.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - Late to the party, I know but it was so worth the wait!
Lucky Boy
Firekeeper's Daughter
Memory and Dream - This series is really out of my wheelhouse, but I've been loving it so much!
The Wolf Road
American Dirt
The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox - Did NOT want this to end!
To The Bright Edge of the World
Christodora - I loved, loved, loved this book. So.Much.
News of the World
Salvage the Bones- The writing in this book knocked my socks off. Can't wait for my next Ward book!
Girl with a Pearl Earring - Another one I was really late to the party on, but so surprisingly worth the wait!

Sorry that's the best I could do to narrow it down! I had some good ones last year.

Kathiespeight | 9 comments I read and learned a lot from American Dirt.
It really showed me the extent people went thru to escape a terrible situation in the search for a better one.

Did you read Daughter of Moloka'i'? I couldn't get enough of that book so I immediately went to the sequel and loved it just as much. After telling my book club about it, many of them went on to read the series as well and loved it just as much as me!

uummm... is it bad that I don't know any of these books? 😳

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I love seeing what everyone read!

Michelle, Moloka'i is still on my to read list. I'll try to read it this year.

Lol Tien. I'm not surprised you don't know many of the books I read. Might be because of the genre and I also read a lot of reviews for NetGalley. So then the books are still unknown.

Tien, I haven't read any of the books you listed either. But ofcourse I know James Patterson. I'll add the first 3 to my TBR, they sound good.

I get lazy with Netgalley *guilty*

Everyone seems to know JP but I really read that book because of the co-author, Candice Fox. She's a favourite of mine :)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Tien, I never heard of her. Which book would you reccomend me to start with (of Candice Fox)?

Michelle, will do!

Start with Crimson Lake (Crimson Lake #1) since tv series is coming sometime this year ;)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13315664/

Or if you prefer stand alone, there's one where she wrote by herself

The Chase
