Have you read / partially read / heard about a book recently that is... horrible? Sex, drugs, witchcraft, swearing and profanity, blasphemy and icky spiritual themes? Some books are obviously a no-no but other ones look totally fine until it's too late, so here's a place to warn others about not-so-good books and also to ask about books you're on the fence about!

So Lunar Chronicles is a great book..however, I have heard the Levana book isn't good at all.

message 3: by Kacie (new)

Kacie | 562 comments my sister told me not to read the Levana book lol

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah, my niece told me

What is the Levana book?

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

um its an addition to the Lunar Chronicles and from what my niece said, Levana since she's Lunar (Lunar can mind control and stuff) mind controlled men to go to bed with her/......

message 7: by Carina (new)

Carina Shephard (carinashephard) The Levana book is Fairest. From what I understand the rest of the series is pretty clean- I haven’t finished it yet.

message 8: by Kacie (new)

Kacie | 562 comments the rest of the series is clean. and amaaaaaazing!!

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah. Scarlet does have a super awkward kiss but its able to save her but still...I won't spoil its pretty disgusting when you first read it. You're like WHAT IS HE DOIN.....oh wait...oh...ok........

message 10: by Kacie (new)

Kacie | 562 comments lol I remember that!! I was like eewwwwww

message 11: by Carina (new)

Carina Shephard (carinashephard) Oh, yeah, I forgot about that kiss. XD

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Bahaha yeah....

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh another really bad series is Ember in the Ashes. The first book was a little iffy and I was like I hope it gets better...it doesn't. The second book legit has loads of demons and stuff...and a really sketchy love scene and the guy she loves turns into a demon so...yeah

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Kacie | 562 comments ooof yeah I read the first ember in the ashes book. it was sketchy. it just made me feel iffy. yuck. no way I was gonna read the rest

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah. I'm one of those people that hope it gets better by the second books...unless like the first book is HORRRRIIIIAAABLLEEE

Sometimes is worth it sometimes isnt haha

message 17: by Kacie (new)

Kacie | 562 comments saaaame!!

message 18: by Alison (new)

Alison | 1641 comments Yes, Ember in the Ashes was definitely not the best. The first three books weren't terrible, but the fourth was really bad. Probably shouldn't read them.

WHOA. I heard that there were content issues in Levana's story, but I didn't know it went to THAT level. *gags* Glad I skipped it!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah

message 22: by Jesse (new)

Jesse | 386 comments I read Jurassic Park, sci is a fairly clean books (just some language ever now and then), but Jesus’ name was used in vain at least 20 times, which as really annoying, cause it was actually a really good book, but I can’t justify reading the sequel if it’s got the same amount.

message 23: by Alison (new)

Alison | 1641 comments Oh yeah, I watched the movie, and then I found out there were books, and I started it, and was just . . . EEEEK! There was so much taking God's name in vain. I mean, it was a good book otherwise, but yeah.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't remember, but were the movies like that, too?

message 26: by Alison (new)

Alison | 1641 comments Not as much, I mean there's usually at least a bit of it in all movies these days :(
But the movies were fine.

Yeah, I was watching some G or PG rated adventure film the other day with my little sisters and they used Jesus' name in vain SO much I just quit halfway smh

message 28: by Jesse (new)

Jesse | 386 comments I can usually take a lot, but if the Lords’ name is used too many times, I just don’t think it’s worth a film.
Like, Rambo: First Blood has SO MANY!

message 30: by Jesse (new)

Jesse | 386 comments Yeah, Action movies tend to have it a lot. But when you do find a movie that doesn’t use it your like 😍

Oh haha. You should watch some of the old Poirot films, then!!

message 34: by Jesse (new)

Jesse | 386 comments Lol I wish! I can’t watch movies before the 70s and it annoys me soo bad! I just lose interest. I wish I could, though.

Sorry about that, though!!! I couldn't get into the old Sherlock Holmes movies (only tried one tho lol) but I love Poirot!

message 36: by Jesse (new)

Jesse | 386 comments I did watch a bit of the Holmes movies on TV a while ago, but couldn’t get into it. I’ll see about Poirot, though.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, wait, the Poirot stuff I like watching is the TV episodes (with David Suchet as Poirot). I can't really imagine a different Poirot or a different Hastings lol

message 39: by Jesse (new)

Jesse | 386 comments I’ve seen the newer Holmes movies which are junk.

message 41: by Cindy (new)

Cindy aka "The Book Fairy" Hey everyone; a guide I use when wondering if a movie or book are appropriate per say is to read a true review from the movie site "Plugged In online"....they tell it like it is.... We often can get an idea if it's fit or not to watch from rating and description. **Try to visualize Jesus sitting next to you, would he be disappointed? Would we feel uncomfortable?............As for books, I stick to ones that are at least wholesome if not Christian per say, enlightening, humorous, educational, entertaining....I ask myself if this will be beneficial spiritually? Or it presenting a skewed perspective? Happy reading :)

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)
