Kacie | 562 comments I personally think maze runner is okay. I don't remember much swearing and there's nothing sexually explicit. but it is pretty violent. and idk other people might not agree with me about it being clean XD

message 52: by Avery (new)

Avery Judd (averyisabelle) Someone said Harry Potter is a no, which I get if your mother is super strict about witchcraft and doesn’t want you to read it. Harry Potter is a perfectly good series and my mom trusted me enough to know I would never ever believe in that stuff. There is some cussing, but it’s actually not bad at all. Although Harry Potter has witchcraft and uses it for the good, that does not mean the author is trying to tell us that witchcraft is good. I haven’t heard anything bad about the author, but I’ve been hearing she’s getting a lot of hate and people hate Harry Potter because of her. Seriously, you can’t just hate a book because of the author. You’re not rating the author you’re rating the book. I truly love Harry Potter, and I recommend it to everyone out there. I understand tho if your parents are not ok with it.

There is language in the first book, but that’s the only one I’ve read. The movies are the same, and maybe worse. The first book mostly has made up bad words, but there might be some mild cuss words.
In the movies they say some made up words, but they use the S word and some other words very often.
As of inappropriate, there is nothing. There is violence in all three books and movies. Over all I recommend it! I love the movies so much! Xd

That was for the maze runner!Xd!

message 55: by Kacie (new)

Kacie | 562 comments I agree about Harry Potter. tho it's definitely understandable that some people aren't allowed to read it. I know there are some books that people tell me are 'clean' but not to my level of cleanness.

message 56: by Kacie (new)

Kacie | 562 comments and I still need to watch the other maze runner movies XD

message 58: by Kacie (new)

Kacie | 562 comments sorry if I acted offended XD I'm really not. it makes me super happy when people are careful with the content of their books lol

message 59: by Avery (new)

Avery Judd (averyisabelle) Oh my goodness no!! Don’t apologize I didn’t mean to seem offended. I was just putting my own personal opinion out there, I totally accept everyone else’s opinions!!

Kacie | 562 comments oh goodness guys. y'all are so nice XD other groups I've been in woulda spiraled into a yelling match by now heh.

message 61: by Amber (new)

Amber Gabriel Thank you, Lily, for setting up this group and starting these great discussion threads. It is helpful to know what is in a book so you can make your own decision about whether or not to read it. Christians are given freedom to act according to their own conscience in "disputable matters" (see Romans 14), and reading fiction is one of those. When there is so much negativity in the world, I am glad to see a place where everyone interacts with grace!

Great story. And also very unique. It felt a bit dragged out towards the middle, but besides that it was a pretty good movie!

Hmm, I think I did notice that a bit! (I did want it to drag lots and lots tho so then I wouldn't have to watch anything gory lol)

message 71: by Issabelle (new)

Issabelle Perry | 91 comments I would honestly avoid reading Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian. There was some language, a heavy emphasis on this world's gods, and an indication of a character being a homosexual. (I also think there might've been a questionable sexual scene near the end, but can't exactly remember.) I was entirely disappointed with this book anyway outside of the content because of the lack of character development. So just a heads up if anyone's thinking about it. :)

I wish I had heard that before I requested it...then I probably could have read the rest of them but that one came to the library first and now I can't read them.

message 76: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Joy (tashavk) War Babies isn't good at all. I started to read it because I was like thinking it was a book about mothers with babies who's father's went to war but not at all lol.

message 80: by Anna (new)

Anna (mariaisdaydreaming) I finished reading Gilded by Marissa Meyer recently and... I'm super disappointed with this book :(
Two characters are hinted at being lesbian and someone says they should get married. Then it never comes up again lol
Serilda is always thinking of the love interest. (and I mean always, she longs to be with him.) There are a couple of quick kisses but there was one big kiss scene that included some moaning, touching, and running hands over each other's bodies. And hands going under clothing. (yuck!!!!) They decide to have sex but it fades to black and the chapter ends.
SPOLIER (although this is probably obvious because it’s a Rumpelstiltskin retelling)
.....
.....
(There's a pregnancy trope as well, which will continue in the next book)

Naomi Abiah (naomiabiah) | 1337 comments Okayy as some of you might've seen, I have updated some book stuffies annnd I read 2 books, "As if on Cue" and "What I like About You", both by Marisa Kanter. this is a content warning XD although it kinda looks like a book review.... okay back to the warning..... "As if on Cue" was actually had a good plot line... warning: there was a couple of lgbtq things and there was slight cursing and it was a bit sensual in some parts....
"What I like About You" was also good.....there wasn't lgbtq as far as I know..... the main characters go a bit far in my opinion.... light cursing again

Lola Has anyone read Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover?? Really any book she’s written?? I’ve heard mix reviews saying that it is strictly an adult book and others saying it’s fine for teens. I’m only curious bc she’s really popular and my non christian cousin loves her. Just want to make sure I’m not jumping into something full of things i don’t want to read…

Not attacking you or being offended, but I don't think we should imply someone isn't Christian because of their writing. There are different denominations that believe certain things, and I know if I were him I'd feel very upset by that

Yeah, sorry about that :( Your relationship with the Lord is 100% between you and Him and same with everyone else's. Not my place to judge.

there is quite a few mature scenes in Colleen Hoover books along with swearing. I've 4 of hers and im not a super fan, but I just finished All Your Perfects and its about a woman who struggles with infertility.

It was actually a really good book! I cried a lot lol. I think most of her books are normally cringe, but the couple was so cute and they really loved one another.
