I know I have read some that would definitely fit... The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yōko Ogawa and The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais.

I'm sure there are many more!

Listopia is here

Evelynn | 4 comments Is there a party in The Royal We?

message 3: by Joshua (new)

Joshua (hitthefunkybeats) | 126 comments You could have a rescue party or a search party. So many kinds of parties! Dancing at the Pity Party: A Dead Mom Graphic Memoir has Party in the title if you want to be cheeky.

Erica | 1255 comments The newest Sophie Kinsella was good.
The Party Crasher

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments Could be a tea party like Alice in Wonderland :)

message 6: by Charlsa (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 195 comments I think I'm going with The Hundred-Foot Journey. I've seen the move but did not know it was originally a book.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments Bel Canto begins with a party.

Two mysteries that come to mind:

* Hallowe'en Party
* Death Crashes the Party
* It's Your Party, Die If You Want To

Meredith! (wanderingartist05) | 12 comments In a Dark, Dark Wood takes place at a Bachelorette Party/Hen Party

message 10: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debzanne) | 165 comments I'm currently reading A Holly Jolly Diwali, which has many parties as part of a big wedding week in India.

I just finished the Precious Stone Trilogy (YA time travel romance): Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, and Emerald Green, which has lots of balls and soirees and even a modern-times masquerade in it.

I also just finished both You Can't Touch My Hair: And Other Things I Still Have to Explain and Everything's Trash, But It's Okay by Phoebe Robinson, and she mentions a few parties she's been to, including an after-party for U2.

A lot of the light romances by Katie Fforde build up to a party of some kind by the end.

Theresa | 2377 comments The Last Book Party fits for sure.

Also consider any mystery, romance or historical fiction that is set at Christmas in a country manor. Those are always house parties.

CrystalIsReading on StoryGraph (crystalsea24) | 57 comments I have a copy of Dial A for Aunties and I'm guessing there's at least one big party in that. if not, I'm not sure what yet, although A Holly Jolly Diwali is on my TBR too.

message 13: by Beth (new)

Beth (drippingfaucet) | 34 comments I think almost any Jane Austen book would qualify, as well as Crazy Rich Asians

message 14: by Karen (new)

Karen Witzler (kewitzler) | 129 comments The Hobbit, or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien begins with an unexpected party.

message 15: by Stephen (new)

Stephen | 32 comments The default definition of Party here seems to be a social event. There's also group of people doing something together. So anything about the Donner Party would work, or a fantasy adventuring party. There are also political parties and a few other definitions.

message 16: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ejaeger) | 9 comments The Last House Guest centers around a party.

message 17: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 16 comments The Initial Insult has a Halloween party going on through most of the book.

message 18: by Jane (new)

Jane | 15 comments Red, White & Royal Blue heavily features a party where a lot of the action kicks off. I also recommend Bel Canto for those who have not read it.

Miranda (mirandom) | 37 comments Evelynn wrote: "Is there a party in The Royal We?"
It's been a couple years since I last read it but I know for sure there is at least one party!

Ron | 2708 comments Beth wrote: "I think almost any Jane Austen book would qualify, as well as Crazy Rich Asians"

I completely forgot about Jane Austen. Then I will totally add Pride and Prejudice to that list.

message 21: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 6 comments would Will Smith's (Will) latest autobiography fit into this category?

message 22: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh Adkins | 1 comments I have The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley but haven’t read it yet. The description seems like it would fit.

K.L. Middleton (theunapologeticbookworm) | 847 comments Ashleigh wrote: "I have The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley but haven’t read it yet. The description seems like it would fit."

The Hunting Party would definitely work for this one.

message 24: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Raynor | 6 comments Just finished Roxy by Neal & Jarrod Shusterman. Not a happy read, but a powerful one. Would definitely fit this prompt.

message 25: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debzanne) | 165 comments I have to read A Midsummer Night's Dream in the next 4-6 weeks, but it's been a looooong time since I read or watched it. There's a play within a play, and I feel like I remember a lot of jovialness, but I'm not sure if there's a party. Anyone wanna confirm or deny for me? Otherwise, there were a few from my TBR on the Listopedia.

message 26: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) The Guest List by Lucy Foley
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Selection by Kiera Cass
In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

message 27: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 34 comments I was planning to read The Spires by Kate Moretti for this prompt based on the synopsis. Has anyone read it and know if it would work for this prompt?

message 28: by Sofia (new)

Sofia Samu | 82 comments I read the arc of The Wedding Setup: A Short Story by Sonali Dev. It's a short story set during a big Indian wedding.

message 29: by Jade (new)

message 30: by Megan (new)

Megan (oreodont) | 56 comments Sparkling Cyanide by Agatha Christie centers around two birthday dinner parties (one in flash-back, the other in the present).

message 31: by sassysistah (last edited Jan 27, 2022 10:02AM) (new)

sassysistah | 14 comments I read The Viscount Who Loved Me. This is the second Bridgeton series book and like most folks I loved the Netflix series Bridgeton so I read The Duke and I for 2021’s prompt of a pink title. I found the Duke and I to be amusing. However, The Viscount Who Loved me make me cringe in its depiction of how women were bred and effectively pranced around and sold at these society parties. I felt pity for the the main characters (male and female) who had to live in this stifling and dehumanizing society. This book left me feeling haunted in both good and challenging ways.

message 32: by Ida (new)

Ida | 5 comments I read Malibu Rising and it definitely fits this prompt as the entire book is about a party. It was an easy read and I was emotionally invested in the characters, especially Nina.

message 33: by Lyn (new)

Lyn | 11 comments Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire because the Yule Ball

I used Weather Girl, it's got two parties that are important to the plot: a "holiday" (Christmas) party, and a bat mitzvah party.

message 35: by LeahS (last edited Feb 23, 2022 01:51PM) (new)

LeahS | 491 comments I read Rizzio by Denise Mina, about the murder of Mary, Queen of Scots' secretary, David Rizzio at a supper party she was giving. The author usually writes crime fiction and this had the tension of a crime novel (and of course it was a particularly nasty crime).

Okay awesome!

I'm currently reading this book: Fire and Flood A People's History of Climate Change, from 1979 to the Present by Eugene Linden

Fire and Flood: A People's History of Climate Change, from 1979 to the Present

It's perfect because it deals with the various parties (Republican/Democrat/Other) and their tries and failures when it comes to combating climate change issues.

How the Carter administration was almost successful at doing something but then the Reagan years happened and everything practically got scrapped. And so the push and pulls continue depending on who's in office.

message 44: by Regan (new)

Regan Slaughter | 15 comments I read Thirteen Storeys by Jonathan Sims for this one, which culminates in an especially terrible dinner party.

message 45: by Kaia (new)

Kaia | 235 comments More than 20 years since I first fell in love with the BBC miniseries, I finally read Pride and Prejudice. I loved it a lot more than I expected to. I was worried it would be too slow or wordy, but it was a quick read and delightful overall. Five stars.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Kaia. “P&P” is my second favorite Austen behind “Persuasion.”

message 47: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2708 comments Pride & Prejudice is certainly one of my favorite classes, well my all-time favorite. I do want to reread it at some point so I can make annotations on it.

Alex (Pucksandpaperbacks) (pucksandpaperbacks) | 5 comments Hi, are we counting weddings as parties? I do see some books here about weddings but wanted to confirm!
