November 2021 Scavenger Hunt
Begins: 01Nov21 / Ends: 30Nov21

.

Your challenge is to find the following words/phrases in the TEXT of the books you are reading this month.

You are NOT restricted to one book / one word; you may find as many of the words/phrases in a single book as you like. If you find all the words in one book you are really lucky!

This month's scavenger list are words that were found in
Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier
NOTE - you may NOT use this book for the scavenger hunt!

BASIC word list
acorns
boulders
cabbage
dash
elegant
forearm
haze
intervals
kettle
lantern
newfound
pumpkins
recent
skillet
vague

Optional/BONUS word list
graphite
jerky
meringue
quail
waterproof(ed)

=============================================================

Unless a variation is specified above, words must match exactly, with the following exceptions: I will accept a plural/singular version, or differences in spelling between British and American English (e.g. honor or honour). But those are the ONLY deviations allowed. So if you are looking for "vivid" - I will NOT allow "vividly."

All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If there is no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.

You may read in any format - text, audio or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon.com's "look inside" feature to get a page number for your quote.

You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for finding the word/phrase.

EXAMPLE of a successful post:

gaslight - Lady Clementine ✔ – 05Aug21- pg 136 - "…the low gaslight that lights…"

Have Fun!

Boulder is singular of boulders, so that's okay.

Congrats on your finish, Koren.

PLEASE NOTE: I have tried for two days now to post the December scavenger challenge and GR is not cooperating with me. I've sent a request to the powers that be and hopefully the issue will be resolved before the month begins.

I'll keep you posted in this thread.

Found 4 of 5 bonus words. Must say it was disheartening to find "waterproof" in three books -- it felt like the scavenger gods were toying with me.

I also have found a variation on the word but not the exact word.

I will accept "waterproof" .... seems to be the more commonly used description vs waterproofed.

NOTE Tuesday morning, Dec 1, 7:14 a.m. Central time.
Somehow the December Scavenger thread is completely GONE.

I know it was up for several days and some of you had already signed up.

I've alerted the support team at GR, and hopefully they can restore it.

But if not, I'll have to try to repost it, and we'll start over.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Okay ... I'm trying it again and posting the December challenge.

Sorry for the delay ... still no word from the (Non)support team at Goodreads.

UPDATE: It looks like it took. But when I go back to the group to check , the post is not there!

Koren ... do you know how to post a thread?

Would you be willing to try posting the December challenge?

Maybe it's MY account that is the issue? GR support is completley silent .. no responses to my several emails on this topic.

Jonquil | 168 comments I think my completion announcement got lost in the goodreads chaos. I have so little faith in the website's predictability, I have taken to exporting my books every month (takes forever).
