The answer is simple. Death needs to hire an intern. So, with the help of his I.T. Guy, Jumbo, the two look for a qualified candidate. It doesn't take much to learn that their prospect, Buck Palasinski, could have what it takes. He's a Chicago hitman that's just been killed on the job. If they bring Buck back from death, he'll have a few weeks to prove that he has what it takes to be Death's right-hand man...that's if he can kill the Underworld's Public Enemy Number One, John Dillinger. As I Sit in the Hall: A Call for Honest Writing

photo As I Sit in the Hall_zpstjwschqs.jpg

It’s late. In a few hours, we’ll wake up and leave for the hospital. It scares my wife. It scares me too. Our son is due in the morning.
There’s something about creation and death that keeps a person honest. My wife’s latest pregnancy framed a lot for me about my shortcomings, from my terse patience to my all too often bleak perspective of the world. At this moment though, it’s irrelevant. A Read more of this blog post »

“Which is the true nightmare, the horrific dream that you have in your sleep or the dissatisfied reality that awaits you when you awake?”
Justin Alcala

“Non fiction? Non fiction?! Listen, reality is what got me into this mess in the first place.”
Justin Alcala

“I don't remember ever signing up for weird. It just sort of happened.”
Justin Alcala

“We love the night and its quiet; and there is no night that we love so well as that on which the moon is coffined in clouds.”
Fitz-James O'Brien, Classic Ghost Stories by Wilkie Collins, M.R. James, Charles Dickens and Others

“Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
Edgar Allen Poe

“Experts in ancient Greek culture say that people back then didn't see their thoughts as belonging to them. When ancient Greeks had a thought, it occurred to them as a god or goddess giving an order. Apollo was telling them to be brave. Athena was telling them to fall in love.

Now people hear a commercial for sour cream potato chips and rush out to buy, but now they call this free will.
At least the ancient Greeks were being honest.”
Chuck Palahniuk, Lullaby

“Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!”
Bram Stoker

“When everything goes to hell, the people who stand by you without flinching -- they are your family. ”
Jim Butcher
