Justin Alcala is a novelist and nerdologist. He’s the author of Consumed and The Devil in the Wide City. When he’s not burning out his retinas in front of a computer, Justin is a passionate tabletop gamer. He’s also a blogger, folklore enthusiast and time traveler. He is an avid quester of anything righteous, from fighting dragons to acquiring magical breakfast eggs from the impregnable grocery fortress.

When writing, Justin often immerses himself in the subject matter, from in-depth research to overseas travel. Much to the dismay of his wife, he often locks himself away in his office while playing themed videos and music over, and over, and over again. Justin currently resides in Chicago with his dark queen, Mallory, their hellhound, Posei

If you do manage to submit it to agents/publishers, chances are you’ve bottled a little bit of lightning. Well, now that all of that’s done with, what else do you... Read more of this blog post »

“Which is the true nightmare, the horrific dream that you have in your sleep or the dissatisfied reality that awaits you when you awake?”
Justin Alcala

“Non fiction? Non fiction?! Listen, reality is what got me into this mess in the first place.”
Justin Alcala

“I don't remember ever signing up for weird. It just sort of happened.”
Justin Alcala

“We love the night and its quiet; and there is no night that we love so well as that on which the moon is coffined in clouds.”
Fitz-James O'Brien, Classic Ghost Stories by Wilkie Collins, M.R. James, Charles Dickens and Others

“Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
Edgar Allen Poe

“Experts in ancient Greek culture say that people back then didn't see their thoughts as belonging to them. When ancient Greeks had a thought, it occurred to them as a god or goddess giving an order. Apollo was telling them to be brave. Athena was telling them to fall in love.

Now people hear a commercial for sour cream potato chips and rush out to buy, but now they call this free will.
At least the ancient Greeks were being honest.”
Chuck Palahniuk, Lullaby

“Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!”
Bram Stoker

“When everything goes to hell, the people who stand by you without flinching -- they are your family. ”
Jim Butcher
